Daikanyama focuses on offering a modern Japanese dining experience, blending traditional elements with contemporary twists. While specific menu categories can vary, here's a general overview of the services and types of dishes you can expect:
Sushi and Sashimi: As a Japanese restaurant, Daikanyama undoubtedly offers a selection of sushi and sashimi. However, one review mentioned "duplicate salmon sushi" and sushi cut into "cubic shape," suggesting a unique, potentially less traditional presentation or selection compared to classic sushi establishments.
Specialty Dishes: The restaurant aims to provide unique culinary creations. A standout mentioned in reviews is the Truffle Duck, which is highly recommended for its delicious taste. This indicates a focus on elevated and distinctive entrees.
Hot Entrees: Beyond sushi, the menu likely includes a variety of hot Japanese dishes. While not explicitly detailed, these would typically encompass items like teriyaki, tempura, and other grilled or pan-fried specialties, often with a modern flair.
Desserts: Daikanyama offers a selection of desserts, though they come with a cautionary note regarding their pricing and presentation. Examples include Tempura Ice Cream and Heart Cake (which one reviewer noted was served frozen and difficult to eat), and a Mango Dessert that was described as delicious. It's important for diners to inquire about dessert prices as they may not always be listed on the menu.
Beverage Selection: A range of beverages would typically be available to complement the meal, including Japanese teas, soft drinks, and potentially alcoholic options, depending on their liquor license.
Dine-in Service: Daikanyama primarily offers a dine-in experience, aiming to provide a pleasant atmosphere for its patrons. The interior is generally clean, though some aspects of service consistency can vary.
Takeout: While the reviews focus on dine-in experiences, most restaurants of this type offer takeout options for customer convenience.
Daikanyama offers several features that contribute to its unique position in the Massachusetts dining scene, though some aspects have received mixed feedback:
Delicious and High-Quality Food: This is a consistent highlight. Despite varying service experiences, the food itself is often praised for being "delicious" and of high quality. The Truffle Duck comes highly recommended as a standout dish, indicating culinary excellence in specific areas.
Very Fast Food Delivery: Customers frequently commend the speed at which their food arrives at the table. This quick service for dishes is a significant positive, especially for those seeking an efficient dining experience.
Modern Japanese Cuisine: Daikanyama seems to offer a contemporary take on Japanese food, moving beyond strictly traditional preparations. This can be seen in dishes like the Truffle Duck and the mention of "cubic" sushi, suggesting a more innovative approach.
Friendly Host/Manager: One review specifically noted that the "manager or host working the podium was very nice," indicating a welcoming initial point of contact for diners.
Unique Dessert Offerings: While pricing and preparation issues were mentioned for some, unique items like Tempura Ice Cream and the Mango Dessert offer different sweet endings to a meal.
However, it's crucial to address the areas that have received critical feedback, as these significantly impact the overall dining experience for some patrons:
Inconsistent Service: A major concern raised by a reviewer was the discrepancy in service quality, where one table received "much better and kinder service" than another, leading to feelings of being "not appreciate." This inconsistency is a significant drawback for some.
Lack of Dessert Price Transparency: Customers felt "tricked" by unlisted dessert prices that were high (e.g., ~$15 for a small dessert, $13 for one scoop of tempura ice cream). This lack of clear communication upfront led to disappointment.
Dessert Preparation Issues: The "Heart Cake" being served "completely frozen and impossible to eat" is a notable issue, indicating problems with dessert preparation or handling.
Questionable Authenticity/Presentation: One review stated the food might not be for those "seeking authentic Japanese food" and questioned the "cubic shape" of sushi, suggesting a departure from traditional presentation that might not appeal to purists.
Portion and Value Concerns for Some Items: While the Truffle Duck was good, the perceived small quantity of Tuna Tataki for the price and "duplicate salmon sushi" might concern some value-conscious diners. Note that the review provided a single view on this and it is not a direct quote from the establishment. The text is from the user review.
Based on the provided customer reviews, there is no explicit mention of ongoing promotions, special offers, or specific lunch/dinner deals at Daikanyama beyond their standard menu. The focus of customer feedback has been on the quality of individual dishes and service aspects, rather than promotional pricing. The pricing of desserts, in particular, was highlighted as a point of concern due to a perceived lack of transparency, rather than any promotional offers.
However, like many modern Japanese restaurants in Massachusetts, Daikanyama might periodically introduce seasonal specials, prix fixe menus, or weekend promotions that are not widely advertised in general reviews. Restaurants also commonly offer happy hour deals, loyalty programs, or discounts for online orders if they utilize third-party delivery services. Given the feedback about dessert pricing, it's particularly important for diners to inquire about all costs upfront.
For the most current and accurate information regarding any potential promotions, lunch specials, or happy hour deals, residents in Massachusetts should directly contact Daikanyama via phone or check their official website or social media channels if available. This direct approach will ensure you have the latest details before planning your visit.

Daikanyama Reviews
Very disappointed with the service. The same server gave the table next to us much better and kinder service. You might be able to get away with that if the tables aren’t close together. I’m guessing the other table was spending more money? I really didn’t appreciate the way we were treated. The manager or host working the podium was very nice to us though. On the plus side the food came out very fast and was all delicious. I strongly recommend the Truffle Duck.Be wary desserts don’t have prices and are all ~$15 and are small. Feels like they are trying to trick you. $13 for one scoop of tempura ice cream is a bit crazy. However with better communication I would not have minded the price. They also need to thaw the Heart Cake before they serve it - it was completely frozen and impossible to eat with a fork or spoon. The mango dessert was delicious.I most likely won’t return due to the service.
Feb 15, 2025 · Nicole MagliozziGood if you are not seeking authentic Japanese food.Gave me way too many duplicate salmon sushi. Wait, they cut the sushi to cubic shape?!
Mar 28, 2025 · Peter SungI really love this place. The service is so friendly, the food is so tasty, and the value is pretty unbeatable. Everything is very fresh, and well prepared. There is a good assortment of Japanese comfort food and sushi.A sushi lunch combo is a surprisingly large meal, including soup, salad, and little appetizers. For the price it's a bargain, and it's all very tasty. The Lexington location is actually very convenient, though it might be hard to find on first attempt, as it kind of blends into the row of businesses in the same complex, and almost appears like an office from the outside. Inside is very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The seating is spacious and the atmosphere is very relaxed. This is a well run restaurant, that's clean, friendly, gives off good vibes and delivers tasty food for great prices. What's not to love?
Apr 02, 2025 · Anders BeerThe food was good. Service was absolutely awful. We ordered our food and the sushi came out relatively fast. The we sat and wait, and waited some more, and then some more.I finally asked the waitress who told us it was going to take another 15-20 minutes for our food. We had to leave because, at that point, our 7 year old son had waited over an hour for his food and was getting grumpy and hungry. Thankfully we had a $100 gift card. We just left the gift card on the table (the sushi was way less than $100) and left. The waitress did not come back out.
