Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl provides a wide array of services designed to offer a flexible and engaging Japanese dining experience. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect:
Conveyor Belt Sushi: A primary feature that sets Hana Sushi apart is its vibrant conveyor belt system. This allows diners to instantly select various sushi rolls, nigiri, and other small plates as they pass by, offering a quick, interactive, and visually appealing way to enjoy your meal. Each plate is color-coded to denote its price, making it easy to keep track of your selections.
Extensive Sushi and Sashimi Menu: Beyond the conveyor belt, Hana Sushi offers a comprehensive menu for made-to-order sushi and sashimi. This includes a large selection of classic rolls like California Roll, Philly Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll, as well as an array of specialty rolls such as the Hana Roll, Beaver Roll, Black Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Hawaiian Roll, each with unique combinations of ingredients. They also offer a variety of fresh nigiri and sashimi, including Salmon, Tuna, Escolar, and Hamachi Yellowtail.
Izakaya-Style Dishes: As an "Izakaya," Hana Sushi provides a range of small, shareable plates beyond just sushi. This includes appetizers like Edamame, Seaweed Salad, Gyoza, Baked Mussel, and various salads such as Salmon Skin Salad and Crabmeat Salad. These options are perfect for complementing your sushi or for a lighter meal.
Hot Kitchen Entrees: For those craving warm dishes, Hana Sushi offers a selection of hot entrees. This includes various Teriyaki options (Chicken, Beef, Shrimp, Salmon), Donburi (rice bowls like Unagi Don, Gyudon, Tekka Don), and noodle dishes such as Ramen, Udon, and Soba, available with different protein choices.
Beverage Selection: To complete the dining experience, they offer a range of beverages including hot tea, various Pepsi products, and Ramune (Japanese soda). While not explicitly detailed, most izakaya-style restaurants also offer sake and beer options.
Takeout and Delivery: For the convenience of customers, Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl also provides options for takeout and delivery through platforms like Uber Eats, Grubhub, and DoorDash, allowing you to enjoy their diverse menu from the comfort of your home.
What makes Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl a notable spot for sushi lovers in Oregon? Here are some of its key features and highlights:
Conveyor Belt System: This is a major highlight, offering a fun, interactive, and quick way to enjoy sushi. It allows diners to visually select their desired plates, making it easy to sample a wide variety without committing to large orders. This "unpretentious" approach is often praised by customers.
Large Selection: Hana Sushi offers an extensive menu that goes beyond standard sushi, providing a broad range of rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and izakaya-style hot and cold dishes. This variety ensures there's something for almost every palate, whether you're a sushi purist or looking to explore other Japanese flavors.
Convenience and Speed: The conveyor belt system is particularly appealing for those seeking a quick and efficient meal. It minimizes waiting times for individual orders, making it an excellent option for a lunch break or a fast dinner.
Competitive Pricing: While specific "all-you-can-eat" options mentioned in some reviews might be related to other Hana Sushi locations or past promotions, the conveyor belt model typically allows diners to control their spending by selecting plates at various price points, often offering good value for the quality and variety provided.
Freshness and Quality (Conveyor Belt Management): The restaurant reportedly discards sushi from the belt that hasn't been eaten within a few hours, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining freshness on the conveyor. They also source food from major Japanese food companies, indicating a focus on ingredient quality.
Skilled Sushi Chef: Information suggests they employ a sushi chef with over 20 years of experience, indicating a foundation of expertise in crafting their sushi offerings.
Unpretentious Atmosphere: Many customers describe the dining experience as "unpretentious" and relaxed, creating a comfortable environment for enjoying Japanese cuisine without excessive formality.
Integrated Beverage Offerings: The shared space with "April's Tea House" in some locations (or similar beverage offerings at the Pearl location) provides unique pairing options like boba tea alongside your sushi.
While Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl focuses on providing consistent quality and convenience through its unique dining model, information regarding specific, ongoing promotional offers can vary. Based on available data, here's what to consider:
Conveyor Belt Pricing: The conveyor belt system itself acts as a form of "flexible pricing," where plates are color-coded with varying prices (e.g., Yellow, Green, Purple, Red, Black, Brown plates ranging from ~$1.99 to ~$6.50). This allows diners to manage their budget by choosing dishes within their preferred price range, effectively making it a customizable "deal" experience.
Potential Loyalty Programs: Some mentions suggest that Hana Sushi (or its associated ownership group) may offer a transferable point system that connects to other establishments, allowing customers to earn points for discounts on future visits. It's advisable to inquire about this directly at the restaurant to see if the Pearl District location participates.
Online Delivery Platform Specials: Like many restaurants, Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl participates in third-party delivery services (Uber Eats, Grubhub, DoorDash). These platforms often have their own promotions, discounts, or loyalty programs that might apply to orders from Hana Sushi. Checking these apps regularly could reveal temporary deals.
Lunch Specials: While not explicitly detailed as "specials," the availability of lunch hours means they likely offer a range of menu items suitable for a midday meal, potentially at competitive price points compared to dinner.
"Too Good To Go" Bags: Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl has partnered with "Too Good To Go," an app designed to reduce food waste. They offer "Surprise Bags" (Afternoon or Evening) with surplus food at a discounted price (e.g., $5.99 for items valued at $18). This is a fantastic way to enjoy their food at a significantly reduced cost while supporting sustainability, though the contents are a surprise.

Hana Sushi and Izakaya Pearl Reviews
I had a great experience here grabbing a few bites of sushi. Very unpretentious, large selection and decent quality. Loved the conveyor belt system. My only issue, they seemed to be severely understaffed with many of the tables not being bussed. Will still return when in town.
Mar 31, 2025 · DomWe sampled a wide variety of sushi from the conveyor belt, yet none proved exceptionally memorable. The rice-to-fish ratio was excessive, and an overwhelming amount of spicy mayonnaise was present in each dish. While our expectations were high, the experience unfortunately fell short.
May 23, 2025 · Surabhi AnuragSadly suffering from understaffing and it shows - the employees are literally running from taking orders to the back to do dishes. The sushi quality was okay, but the stacking of plates on the belt concerned me because it is harder to maintain temperature. Ordered five pieces of sushi with the server when we sat down, but thirty minutes later only the miso had arrived. Ended up cancelling the rest and got half of the bill as an apology. Hope this place can hire some more staff and have a better experience in the future.
May 24, 2025 · Paper WingsEdited to update: Came back, still absolutely phenomenal sushi! Fresh, delicious, friendly and fantastic service! They've just opened a bar upstairs that is super nifty! The bartender, J, made incredible craft cocktails with a cool background of information!Fantastic, fresh, great conveyor belt sushi selection! Service is always fast and friendly! Lots of natural light if you're here during the day gives the place a welcoming and pleasant vibe. Highly recommend!!
