Hanare Introduce
For those in Orange County, California, who seek the pinnacle of Japanese culinary artistry, Hanare in Costa Mesa offers an unparalleled dining experience. More than just a sushi restaurant, Hanare is a Michelin-starred sanctuary, an exclusive "hideout" that delivers a truly personal and immersive omakase journey. Tucked away behind The LAB Anti-Mall, this acclaimed establishment is where traditional Japanese technique meets artistic presentation and world-class ingredients, creating an unforgettable meal for the most discerning palates.
Hanare distinguishes itself as one of Orange County’s most exceptional and exclusive dining destinations. Under the masterful guidance of Chef Atsushi Yokoyama, guests embark on a seasonal omakase adventure, featuring pristine sashimi, perfectly marbled A5 Japanese beef, and inventive dishes crafted with meticulous care. Every element, from the minimalist setting to the thoughtful pacing of each course, is intentional, designed to highlight the purity of flavors and the chef’s artistry. For Californians celebrating a special occasion, an anniversary, or simply desiring a unique, high-end culinary moment, Hanare absolutely delivers. Its reputation for exquisite execution and an intimate atmosphere solidifies its status as Costa Mesa's premier Japanese restaurant and a true gem within Southern California's vibrant food scene.
Location and Accessibility
Hanare is strategically located at 2930 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, USA. This address places it within a well-known and often bustling part of Costa Mesa, a vibrant city in Orange County. Its unique positioning "tucked behind The LAB Anti-Mall" adds to its "hidden gem" allure, though it might require a bit of mindful navigation for first-time visitors.
For locals in California, especially in dense urban and suburban areas, ease of access and parking are crucial factors. Hanare's location within The LAB Anti-Mall complex means that parking solutions are typically available. Public information indicates "Public Lot" parking, as well as the potential for "Outdoor Parking" and "Valet Parking" within the wider LAB complex, suggesting that finding a spot, while potentially busy, should be manageable. However, as noted in a customer review, finding the exact entrance to Hanare itself can be a "little challenging," especially during dusk or rain. Guests are advised to "look for the small box by the door that holds the Japanese paper listing their name" as the actual door might resemble a "utility room door." Despite this minor navigational quirk, its central location on Bristol Street in Costa Mesa, a major thoroughfare, ensures that Hanare is generally accessible from various parts of Orange County. This combination of a unique, almost secretive entrance and generally available parking contributes to the exclusive and immersive experience that Hanare offers.

Mar 21, 2025 · Andrew LimWe had a phenomenal experience at Hanare Sushi! It is a little challenging to figure out the location. We arrived in the rain during dusk and without the window in the side of the building, the door to the restaurant looks like a utility room door. So look for the small box by the door that holds the Japanese paper listing their name. When you walk in, there are a couple of tables in front and then you see the amazing sushi bar that seats up to 8 prior at a time. The omakase is 10 courses including a waygu beef course and dessert. The dishes were inventive and the fish was very fresh. I experienced alternates to the shrimp and hairy crab that are pictured since I have crustacean allergy, but they were aware of this so I had clam in place of sweet Santa Barbara shrimp, halibut chawan mushi in place of shrimp, and unagi with foie gras rather than hairy crab.Great watching the chef prepare the sashimi and sushi at the bar. You can see that he set the large piece of toro on top of the bar while he was cutting the slices for nigiri.Definitely worth the experience so do go!
Mar 06, 2025 · Millie KwanI recently had an amazing experience at Hanare Omakase! The whole vibe was intimate and authentic, but the real standout for me was the wasabi. They actually grated it fresh from the root right in front of us, which gave it a clean, slightly spicy flavor that totally elevated each piece of sushi. Every course felt thoughtfully crafted, and the fish was incredibly fresh—each bite felt like it had its own story. If you’re into sushi and want something that feels both traditional and special, Hanare is definitely worth a visit.
Nov 03, 2024 · Hoyong ChoiThe food is good but not impress. The first time I see the small crab in real life but it didn't taste as I thought. The place is small, only 8 or 10 seat at the bar so be sure to make the reservation ahead of time.
Oct 20, 2024 · Phu PhanFantastic dining experience, definitely Michelin star worthy. This is a small and in many ways understated restaurant with very limited seating. The experience is intimate and cozy, with the chef preparing and describing each dish. The sushi bar experience is definitely more of a show than the couple of tables they have. There is only one dining option which is a fantastic omakase.
