Patrons rave about the perfectly executed dishes, from their signature Monjayaki and intriguing grilled stingray to surprising delights like popcorn shrimp and savory eggplant with minced pork. Despite its "spartan" decor, the focus remains firmly on the culinary excellence, complemented by friendly service. This article will guide you through what makes Happa Restaurant of Japanese Izakaya a must-visit spot for authentic Japanese food in Gardena, from its location and accessibility to its diverse menu and unique highlights.
Happa Restaurant of Japanese Izakaya is situated at 1641 W Redondo Beach Blvd # 8, Gardena, CA 90247, USA. This can make it "a little hard to see from the street," as noted by customers, meaning it's less overtly visible than standalone restaurants. It is nestled between Western Avenue and Normandie Avenue, a well-known stretch in Gardena.
Despite being slightly tucked away, its integration with the hotel offers a significant advantage: "gated within/under the Gardena Hotel" parking. This free structured parking provides convenience and peace of mind for diners, a valuable asset in many parts of California where parking can be a challenge. While it might require a brief search to locate, the ease of parking once found contributes significantly to its accessibility, making it a viable and attractive option for locals seeking a hassle-free dining experience. Its address on a main boulevard like Redondo Beach Blvd also ensures relatively straightforward navigation.

This allows diners to try a wider variety of dishes for a cumulative cost that can be quite reasonable, especially when sharing, making the overall experience feel like a great value.
Karaoke Nights: The restaurant offers Karaoke "Everyday at 9pm." While not a direct food or drink promotion, it's a significant entertainment feature that can enhance the dining experience, encouraging longer stays and potentially more orders, creating a fun atmosphere.

Happa Restaurant of Japanese Izakaya Reviews
Let's get the negative stuff out of the way : this place looks like a high school cafeteria, decor is spartan at best; service is okay, one kid was a bit clueless but helpful nevertheless. The highlight then is: the quality of the food. Ordered their signature Monjayaki which was interesting (so is the grilled stingray), their popcorn shrimp is a surprise , the eggplant with minced pork is delish, lotus root salad and jelly fish appetizer is nice too. I gave it five star purely due to the food , and the lack of patron on a Thursday night. Hope this place survives. Parking is gated within/under the Gardena Hotel
December 23 · Andy LawI really enjoyed my meal here. Staff was really friendly and the food was excellent. Located in/part of the Hotel it's a little hard to see from the street but its worth finding! Dishes are all really authentic and executed perfectly. A lot a variety and pricing is perfect.
March 05 · Erns ValdezGreat variety of interesting Japanese dishes you can’t find in most places. We especially enjoyed the lemon hot pot, which is a chicken soup with lots of lemon flavor. Also loved the Monjayaki, which is a variety of Japanese pancake from Tokyo that is almost impossible to find in the US.
February 13 · Tim KA great little restaurant. We ate here because we were staying at the New Gardena Hotel and were pleasantly surprised! We ordered 1 Curry, 1 Happa Chicken bento box, pan fried gyoza, and Karamen. Everything was hot and delicious. The Curry and chicken was awesome!!
October 10 · Emily SantosGreat customer service and the food comes very fast. The restaurant resides within the hotel and guests of the hotel and the restaurant can park inside the indoor garage.
