HIROKI Introduce
For those of us in Pennsylvania who truly appreciate the art and tradition of Japanese cuisine, particularly the refined experience of omakase, HIROKI stands as an undisputed beacon in Philadelphia. Located in the vibrant Fishtown neighborhood, HIROKI is not just a sushi restaurant; it is an immersive culinary journey curated by the masterful Executive Chef Hiroki Fujiyama, an alum of the renowned Morimoto. This establishment redefines fine dining by offering an "incredible and unique experience" where every dish is a meticulously crafted work of art, showcasing the freshest ingredients and exquisite technique.
HIROKI is designed for discerning diners who seek more than just a meal – they seek an event. As one delighted customer perfectly encapsulated, "This was our first omakase dinner experience ever and we absolutely loved it. Watching the preparation was an art form in itself. Every dish was amazing and fresh and well thought out." This is the essence of HIROKI: a place where the precision of Japanese culinary tradition meets an intimate and sophisticated atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned omakase enthusiast or venturing into this exquisite dining style for the first time, HIROKI promises some of "the best sushi we had ever had," with every piece, from the coveted toro to the delicate Black Sea bass and sea eel, being nothing short of "incredible." For those in Philadelphia looking for a truly "splurge-worthy" and unforgettable Japanese dining experience, HIROKI is a destination that should not be overlooked.
HIROKI is elegantly situated at the Corner of Lee & Master St, Philadelphia, PA 19125, specifically at 1355 N Front St, Philadelphia, PA 19122, USA. This address places it squarely in the heart of Fishtown, one of Philadelphia's most dynamic and creatively driven neighborhoods. Fishtown is well-known for its vibrant arts scene, eclectic boutiques, and a burgeoning array of high-quality dining establishments, making HIROKI a perfect fit within its sophisticated culinary landscape.
Accessibility to HIROKI is quite convenient for Philadelphia locals. The restaurant is easily reachable via public transportation. It's located very close to the Girard Station on SEPTA's Market-Frankford Line (the "El"), providing straightforward access from Center City and other parts of the city. Numerous bus routes also service the Front Street corridor. While street parking in Fishtown can sometimes be competitive, there are typically various parking options available in the surrounding blocks. HIROKI's position on N Front Street, a major artery connecting various parts of the city, ensures that patrons can access this exceptional dining experience with relative ease, making it a prime destination for a special night out in Pennsylvania.
HIROKI offers a highly refined and specific dining experience, primarily centered around the traditional Japanese omakase concept, along with curated beverage pairings.
Omakase Dining: The core offering at HIROKI is a multi-course omakase (chef's choice) dinner. This is a seasonal, approximately "twenty course" menu deeply inspired by Chef Hiroki Fujiyama's hometown of Kyoto. It features an exquisite progression of nigiri, sashimi, and composed dishes, allowing the chef to showcase the freshest seasonal ingredients and his exceptional technique. The omakase experience is designed to be comprehensive and fully curated.
Sushi Omakase: For purists, HIROKI also offers a dedicated "sushi-only omakase" which includes a chef's selection of sushi, miso soup, and dessert. This option provides a focused journey through the chef's best sushi preparations.
A La Carte Menu (Limited Availability): While the omakase is the signature experience, HIROKI also offers a limited a la carte menu on specific days (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays). This menu includes a selection of maki, nigiri, Wagyu, and other hot and cold Japanese dishes, providing flexibility for guests who might prefer individual selections or wish to supplement their omakase. Examples include various nigiri (tuna, hamachi, sea urchin, etc.), specialty rolls (Toro Roll, Niku Inari), and hot plates like Katsudon, Wagyu Sukiyaki, and Koji Miso Black Cod.
Sake and Beverage Pairings: HIROKI prides itself on offering a "curated sake pairing" designed to complement the omakase menu. Guests can choose from a robust selection of sakes, Japanese whiskies, and a well-curated wine list, enhancing the flavors of each dish. A six-course sake pairing is available for those seeking a comprehensive beverage experience.
Reservations-Only Model: Due to the intimate nature of the omakase experience and limited seating, HIROKI operates on a reservation-only basis. Seating times are typically fixed (e.g., 6:00 pm and 8:15 pm), and it is strongly advised to book well in advance, especially for larger groups. Reservations are generally made via platforms like Resy.
Private Dining/Events: While primarily focused on individual dining experiences, the restaurant's sophisticated setting may offer opportunities for select private events or larger group bookings, though this would likely require direct inquiry.
HIROKI stands out as a unique and celebrated dining destination in Philadelphia due to several distinguishing features and highlights:
Exceptional Omakase Experience: The paramount feature is the multi-course omakase, praised as an "incredible and unique experience." Diners commend how "Every dish was amazing and fresh and well thought out," with the preparation itself being an "art form." This commitment to a curated, high-quality tasting menu is its signature.
Masterful Chef Hiroki Fujiyama: The restaurant is named for and led by Executive Chef Hiroki Fujiyama, a former head sushi chef at Morimoto. His expertise, "deeply rooted in tradition and technique," and his Kyoto upbringing infuse every dish, elevating the culinary experience.
Unparalleled Fish Quality: Customers consistently highlight the freshness and exquisite quality of the fish. Specific mentions of "the best sushi we had ever had," including "the toro, the Black Sea bass, the sea eel," underscore the premium ingredients used.
Intimate and Sophisticated Atmosphere: The ambiance is often described as "sophisticated" and "intimate," creating a special and exclusive dining environment. The interior design, inspired by traditional Japanese machiya, contributes to a feeling of being transported.
Curated Sake and Beverage Program: HIROKI offers a thoughtfully selected sake pairing that complements the omakase, along with an impressive array of sakes, Japanese whiskies, and wines. This enhances the overall sensory journey.
Attention to Detail: From the "well thought out" progression of dishes to the precise knife work of the chefs, every aspect of the dining experience at HIROKI demonstrates meticulous attention to detail.
Memorable Special Occasion Destination: Due to its high quality and unique experience, HIROKI is frequently recommended for "splurge-worthy" occasions, anniversaries, or special celebrations.
As an upscale, omakase-focused establishment, HIROKI typically does not offer conventional daily promotions like happy hours or extensive lunch specials in the same way more casual restaurants might. However, it does present special offerings and packages that cater to its unique dining model and clientele:
Sake Pairings: While not a "discount," the sake pairing option is a curated special offer that enhances the omakase experience. Priced at $195 with sake pairings (compared to $135 for omakase alone, though prices may vary), it offers a holistic culinary journey.
Holiday and Special Event Menus: HIROKI is known to offer unique, one-night-only omakase menus for major holidays or special occasions. For instance, they have featured a "New Year's Eve Omakase," a "20-course omakase inspired by the Osechi, Kyoto's traditional New Year's meal," priced accordingly for the exclusivity and rarity of the ingredients.
Gift Cards: For those looking to share the HIROKI experience, gift cards are available, allowing recipients to enjoy this unique culinary journey.
Private Dining Inquiries: While not a promotion, for large groups or specific events, one can inquire directly about private dining options, which might involve custom menus or experiences.
Due to the exclusive nature and high demand for HIROKI's omakase, any special offers or unique menus are typically announced directly through their website or reservation platforms. Philadelphia residents interested in these exceptional opportunities are advised to check HIROKI's official channels for the most current information and to book well in advance.

HIROKI Reviews
This was our first omakase dinner experience ever and we absolutely loved it. Watching the preparation was an art form in itself. Every dish was amazing and fresh and well thought out. An incredible and unique experience for sure. This was some of the best sushi we had ever had. The toro, the Black Sea bass, the sea eel, it was all just incredible. Do not skip this place if you like omakase.
Jan 12, 2025 · Victor “Bud” NyeVery good experience. We had sushi course and maybe adding something from the ala carte menu. Or if you prefer ordering just from ala carte menu- it would probably be even better. I would come back and have my sushi with sake this time.
Dec 24, 2024 · Juliia DanyliukThe food at Hiroki is excellent. This was my first omakase experience, but I felt that the selection was thoughtful and well-prepared. All of the fish was super fresh, and the wagyu beef melted in your mouth. My only bit of feedback on the food is that the dessert was a was a little simple for the price point, but this is a minor detail. The portions were great, and we felt full after all the courses. The service was top-notch. We had three servers, and each of them was warm and friendly, and they took the time to explain each dish as it came out. The pacing of the dishes was also perfect. I couldn't ask for more. However, be advised that in addition to the 20% gratuity included in the bill, a further tip is expected. This is not stated on the website or on Resy, and you would only know this by reading online reviews. From what I understood, the gratuity goes to the back of the house and operational costs, and the added tip is for the servers. We were happy to support the people who made this wonderful evening possible, but to avoid frequent confusion from guests, I think they should just bake the 20% gratuity charge into the price of the meal. I'm guessing they set the prices this way so as not to scare off potential customers, but I think a lot of people aren't aware of this practice, get sticker shock, and end up leaving them bad reviews. I just feel for the servers who have to explain this policy every evening, as it creates an awkward situation and surprises most guests. After gratuity and the added tip, you should expect to pay at least $200 per person.
Sep 28, 2024 · Chloe !May be the best sushi in Philly and it by far the best omakaze experience in the city. Our waiter dustin curated the the sake pairing and it was spot on for each course. The Wednesday night experience was very intimate while there were only 6 people dining with two sushi chefs. Even our menu had a happy birthday statement. The food was amazing and we ordered more at the end despite being perfectly full. To top it off, the Japanese toilet in the bathroom was awesome. Truly a luxury experience worth the price.
Jul 12, 2024 · H MarcHad what may have been the best Japanese dining experience I’ve ever had! Also my first Omakase experience - just to put it in perspective. Beautiful setting, though the tables are definitely cozy, and lighting is dim (if you’re middle age, bring those readers - I forgot mine!). Anyhow, I didn’t need the readers because someone at my table suggested we do the omakase and it was wonderful! I can’t tell you what I liked best - most dishes melted in my mouth, it was absolutely delicious! Thank you for a great dinner.
