Hissho Sushi Introduce
For residents of North Carolina who frequently travel through Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), or for visitors simply passing through, satisfying a craving for fresh Japanese cuisine on the go can be a challenge. This is where Hissho Sushi comes in. Conveniently located within the airport, Hissho Sushi offers a practical solution for travelers seeking a quick and decent sushi fix amidst their journey. While the unique environment of an airport naturally shapes the dining experience, Hissho Sushi aims to provide a reliable option for those looking for Japanese flavors before or after their flights.
The culinary landscape within an airport is distinctly different from traditional street-side restaurants. The primary focus is on efficiency and accessibility for a transient population. Hissho Sushi at CLT understands this dynamic, positioning itself as an easy stop for busy travelers. Customers appreciate its bright, open space and its location, which makes it a simple detour between connecting flights or before heading to the gates. While it may not always be a destination in itself for Charlotte locals, its presence is certainly a welcome amenity for anyone navigating the airport who desires sushi.
Reviews suggest that for "airport sushi," Hissho Sushi "does a decent job," offering a "solid selection" of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The emphasis here is on meeting the needs of travelers—providing a fresh enough product with efficient service in a functional setting. For North Carolinians on the move, Hissho Sushi stands as a viable choice when that sushi craving unexpectedly arises within the confines of CLT.
Hissho Sushi is strategically located at 5501 Josh Birmingham Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28208, USA. This address precisely places it within Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). More specifically, it is often found in a bright, open space situated between terminals B & C, making it highly accessible for passengers moving through these concourses.
The nature of an airport location dictates its accessibility. For travelers, its convenience is paramount. Being located within the terminal means it’s easily walkable for those with layovers or sufficient time before their departure. This negates the need for external transportation or navigating city traffic, which is a major advantage for individuals on a tight schedule. While the address itself is tied to the airport, its internal placement ensures that it's an "easy stop for travelers with some time to kill."
For Charlotte locals who might be picking up or dropping off passengers, visiting Hissho Sushi would specifically entail entering the airport terminal, which comes with its own considerations like parking fees and security checkpoints. However, for the intended audience of travelers, its prime internal airport location is its defining feature for accessibility.
Hissho Sushi at CLT focuses on providing quick, accessible, and satisfying sushi and Asian-inspired options tailored for the airport environment. Their services are designed for the traveler on the go:
Counter Service and Grab-and-Go Options: The primary service model is a counter setup, allowing for efficient ordering and quick pickup. They also offer pre-packaged sushi rolls and items for grab-and-go convenience, which is ideal for travelers in a rush.
Solid Selection of Sushi and Sashimi: The menu offers a "solid selection of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi." Popular options include a variety of Maki Sushi (like Bagel Roll, California Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Spicy Roll), and Specialty Rolls (such as Crown Town Roll, Crispy Crab, Black Dragon Sea, Mango Tango, Ninja Roll, Queen City Roll, Rising Sun, Salmon Lover). This range provides diverse choices for different palates.
Hot Appetizers and Other Asian Dishes: Beyond sushi, Hissho Sushi offers hot appetizers like Asian Chicken Wings, Boneless Chicken Wings, Egg Rolls (chicken, pork, veggie), Seared Tuna, and Gyoza. They also feature Bento Boxes/Hot Bowls where customers can choose a starch (Yakisoba Noodles, Fried Rice, White Rice), a protein (Miso Glazed Salmon, Sriracha Orange Shrimp, Chicken Satay, Szechuan Beef), and a vegetable.
Beverage Options: The establishment serves various beverages, including "a few beers on tap" and bottled/canned Japanese beers. While a reviewer noted the lack of Japanese beer on tap and mentioned the quality of bottled/canned options, alcoholic beverages are available.
Efficient Service: For travelers on a schedule, "service was efficient," which is a crucial advantage in an airport setting where time is often of the essence.
Customizable Sushi Options: Some Hissho Sushi locations, including potentially this one, offer "Create Your Own Sushi" options, allowing customers to choose a protein, up to two fillings, two sauces, and two toppings.
Hissho Sushi at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, while operating within the unique constraints of an airport environment, still possesses several features and highlights that make it a viable option for travelers:
Convenient Airport Location: Its prime placement between Terminals B & C at CLT is its most significant feature. This makes it an incredibly "easy stop for travelers with some time to kill," eliminating the need to leave the airport for a sushi craving.
"Decent" Airport Sushi Quality: For an airport setting, the sushi is generally considered "decent" and "fresh enough." While not touted as exceptional, it reliably satisfies a craving for sushi in a non-traditional dining environment.
Solid Selection of Rolls and Nigiri: The menu offers a good variety, including classic rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and "creative combinations" like the "Crown Town roll" which was noted for its "nice presentation with crispy toppings and drizzles of sauce."
Efficient Service: Speed and efficiency are crucial in an airport, and Hissho Sushi delivers on this, providing "efficient" service that is a "plus for travelers on a schedule."
Bright, Open Space: The restaurant occupies a "bright, open space," which contributes to a more pleasant dining experience compared to cramped or dark airport eateries.
Variety Beyond Sushi: The availability of hot appetizers like chicken wings and gyoza, along with customizable hot bowls, provides options for those who might not solely want sushi or prefer a warm meal.
Reliable Option for a Sushi Craving: Ultimately, for those "desperately craving sushi while passing through CLT," Hissho Sushi serves as a reasonable and accessible choice that "gets the job done."
As an airport establishment, Hissho Sushi typically operates with a different pricing and promotional strategy compared to a standalone restaurant. While specific ongoing daily deals are not highlighted in the provided reviews, airport venues often have higher prices due to operational costs. Customers did note that "Prices are a bit high, but that’s to be expected in an airport setting."
Hissho Sushi, as a national brand with locations in various settings (including supermarkets and other airports), sometimes offers general promotions through its corporate channels or specific airport-wide deals. However, for this particular location at CLT, direct promotions were not detailed. It is advisable for travelers to:
Check Digital Menus/Displays: Look for any listed specials on screens or menus at the counter.
Inquire at the Counter: Ask the staff if there are any current promotions or combo deals available.
Given the nature of airport dining, promotions are less frequent and typically more subtle than what one might find at a neighborhood restaurant. The primary value proposition at an airport sushi spot often centers on convenience and satisfying a specific craving when options are limited.

Hissho Sushi Reviews
For airport sushi, Hissho Sushi at Charlotte Douglas International Airport does a decent job, but it’s nothing particularly memorable. The restaurant is conveniently located in a bright, open space between terminals B & C making it an easy stop for travelers with some time to kill. The menu offers a solid selection of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi, with some creative combinations. I went with a mixed plate featuring nigiri and one of their specialty rolls, Crown Town roll, which had a nice presentation with crispy toppings and drizzles of sauce. The fish was fresh enough for an airport setting, but the freshness didn’t particularly stand out—pretty standard sushi without anything that made it exceptional. The atmosphere is typical for an airport dining experience—functional but not particularly inviting. Service was efficient, which is a plus for travelers on a schedule. Prices are a bit high, but that’s to be expected in an airport setting.Overall, Hissho Sushi is a reasonable choice if you’re desperately craving sushi while passing through CLT, but it’s not a place I’d go out of my way to visit, unless stuck in CLT airport for a few hours.
Mar 12, 2025 · Andrew WFood, service, and atmosphere got 4 stars but:I overheard the sushi chefs speaking a non- Japanese language. They do not carry edamame. A few beers on tap but no Japanese beer on tap. Bottled and canned Japanese beer in the USA is crap, stale and not made in Japan There are no prices on beers or cocktails. Speaking of prices, they are too high. They do not include the Kanji character for “Hissho”.
Jan 24, 2025 · Joe SanGot the vegan roll because it was the cheapest option. The sushi was good, but for some reason the sushi was very sticky. When you eat each individual sushi piece it’s supposed to come off easily and not stick to another. Also instead of having an employee ring you up for checkout, you can check out automatically by placing it on a machine.
Jan 20, 2025 · Tommey LiangLimited vegan options at the Charlotte Airport. Hisho Sushi has a veggie sushi roll that contains Sushi Rice (White Rice, Water), Cucumber, Carrots, Avocado, Vinegar (Sugar, Grain Vinegar, Water, Salt, Brown Sugar [Sugar, Molasses]), Seaweed, Sesame Seeds, Sushi Ginger (Ginger, Water, Salt, Sugar, Vinegar, Citric Acid, Acetic Acid, Ascorbic Acid), Wasabi (Water, Natural Wasabi [Horseradish, Mustard, Corn Flour, spirulina]), Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt, Alcohol). Contains: Sesame, Soy, Wheat
Dec 31, 2024 · Phil AServer was amazing she was very attentive! Sashimi was fresh and the beer was cold after numerous issues with flights and delays the food was exactly what I needed! Good conversations with the around. Prices well they are airport prices. $26 for 9 pcs sashimi $12 for draft. Have a good selection of sushi rolls, miso soup and seaweed salad. Have a 4 on atmosphere because of the loud music they were playing. Kinda much with TVs and so many people walking by.
