Holy Spirits Introduce
For those in California constantly on the lookout for unique dining and drinking experiences, Sacramento's Holy Spirits is a destination that truly stands out. More than just a Japanese restaurant, this "cozy Japanese-ish cocktail bar" has carved out a niche for itself by expertly blending handcrafted cocktails with high-quality hand rolls and an array of enticing seafood-inspired nibbles. It’s a place that offers a sophisticated yet laid-back vibe, perfect for unwinding after a long day or kicking off a lively night out in Midtown Sacramento.
What immediately grabs the attention of patrons at Holy Spirits is the innovative and meticulously crafted menu. While it embraces Japanese influences, it extends beyond traditional boundaries, offering a creative twist on classic concepts. The hand rolls are a particular highlight, praised for being "well crafted so the fish and seafood shine through while complimented by the other components of the roll." This attention to detail ensures that each bite is a balanced symphony of flavors and textures, making every hand roll a true delight. From specialty creations to regular favorites, the consistent quality of ingredients is palpable, leaving customers eager to return.
Beyond the impressive food, Holy Spirits shines as a cocktail destination. Their handcrafted cocktails are nothing short of extraordinary, designed to complement the food offerings while standing strong on their own. Drinks like the "Holy Dead Man," lauded for its "slightly smoky, bright, and fruity" profile, demonstrate the bar's commitment to pushing creative boundaries in mixology. The knowledgeable and "very friendly" staff are adept at answering questions and offering recommendations, guiding guests through both the culinary and liquid menus. This combination of culinary excellence and expert bartending creates an elevated yet approachable experience for all.
The atmosphere at Holy Spirits is another key component of its appeal. Nestled in the heart of what's affectionately known as the "gayborhood," the bar exudes a "chill" and inviting "vibe," making it a popular spot for a diverse clientele. While some customers have noted that the seating might not be the most comfortable for extended stays, the overall experience – from the consistently delicious food and fantastic drinks to the nice servers – makes it a highly recommended gem in Sacramento's vibrant scene. It’s the kind of place that once discovered, quickly becomes a favorite, promising an experience that's "Hella solid" and worthy of many return visits.
Holy Spirits is centrally located at 1050 20th St #100, Sacramento, CA 95811, USA. Holy Spirits Reviews
If you’re even thinking about checking this place out, listen up: Wednesdays are ALL DAY happy hour. Stop reading and go! Trust me, you won’t regret it.This cozy Japanese-ish cocktail bar, nestled in the heart of the gayborhood, serves up handcrafted cocktails, hand rolls, and plenty of seafood-inspired nibbles. As a vegetarian, I can 100% recommend the Holy Shiitake hand roll—it’s filled with crispy fried shiitake mushrooms and is nothing short of magical. And don’t even get me started on the Holy Dead Man cocktail. I love Aperol and the classic spritz, but this drink took it to a whole new level: slightly smoky, bright, and fruity—absolute perfection. So, if you’re in the mood for a prewash and snack before dancing to the “untsys untsys untsys” at Faces, this is the spot to be.My only complaint is the seating. You might want to book a chiropractic appointment before you go.How I break down my star reviews:1 - No. Not if it was the last thing on DoorDash. 🗑️2 - Meh. Maybe if I’m desperate, close, and high. 😬3 - Mid. Not texting the group chat about it. 🤷♀️4 - Hella solid. Planning my next visit. 😋5 - Shut up and take my money. Om Nom Nom. 🔥
April 04 · Jerry James StoneLove this place, we recommend it to many people. The happy hour is incredible. The food is consistently delicious. The cooked mushroom and the mushroom handroll were highlights, and the other handrolls are amazing/top tier. Drinks are always fantastic, the servers are nice, and the vibe is very chill.
February 07 · Meghan KurodaWhat a hidden gem! My partner picked this out for date night and we loved it. Wednesday is happy hour all day and the value is incredible. The Lou and I cocktail with pickled flavors is unique. The staff are very friendly. My only critiques are that they brought us one incorrect roll (worked out great since we got it for free at the end) and they forgot about making our drinks initially (but we checked in and our drinks arrived shortly thereafter).Truly a wonderful spot for a beverage or food, particularly happy hour. I’ve told my friends about it!
February 14 · Max StephensonCute little dimly lit place, perfect for a date. Love the kitchen you can see into and watch the chef. The food was great! Well prepared and tasty. The staff was friendly and kind. They make special drinks and have so many options! That's their thing, with spirits in the name and all. We are not drinkers, I whispered to the waiter/bartender. He made us mocktails that felt fancy and tasted so good. We'll be back!
March 04 · Sarah JanusReally enjoyed this spot especially for Happy Hour. Really can't beat the $3 beer and $5 hand rolls. Would definitely go again
