J Y Ramen Introduce
For many years, when San Antonio locals yearned for a truly exceptional bowl of ramen, JY Ramen was the name that consistently came to mind. This beloved establishment, located right here in the heart of San Antonio, quickly became a cherished spot for its authentic flavors, comforting broths, and consistently delicious offerings. From its rich Tonkotsu ramen to its fiery Spicy Tokyo Miso, JY Ramen offered a culinary experience that resonated deeply with the community. It wasn't just a place to eat; it was a cornerstone for countless memories, a "constant" for many regulars, and a testament to the thriving Asian culinary scene in Texas.
Sadly, as of early June 2025, JY Ramen has closed its doors permanently. This news has undoubtedly been met with a wave of devastation among its loyal customer base, many of whom consider its ramen to be the best in San Antonio. The closure marks the end of an era for a restaurant that had carved out a special place in the hearts and palates of Texans. However, even in its closing, the legacy of JY Ramen’s quality, efficiency, and warm service continues to be celebrated by those who were fortunate enough to experience it.
The sentiment from long-time patrons paints a vivid picture of what made JY Ramen so special. One devoted customer shared their heartbreak over the closure, stating, "I've been going to this place for 7 years now, my boyfriend and I had so many memories and JY was a constant. I will probably never have ramen as good as here in San Antonio. I am devastated that it is closing down at the end of this month but I am happy I got to find this gem of a place when I did. The server is always very nice too and the food is always delicious!" This profound attachment speaks volumes about the quality of the food and the welcoming atmosphere JY Ramen cultivated.
Even for those who only discovered it more recently, the impact was clear. The restaurant was lauded for its "quiet and calm place to eat," its "unique" seating, and its "very kind staff." The incredible speed with which food, whether for dine-in or takeout, consistently arrived piping hot, impressed many. One customer vividly described their takeout experience: "The food comes out ridiculously fast for takeout and for dine in, and it's ALWAYS hot. They keep the broth and noodles/ingredients separate. I set my ramen aside once due to an emergency and came back after about two hours. This was the takeout- it was STILL WARM IN THE BAG. The packing for takeout is commendable. It always comes with the spoon and a pair of chopsticks, and they tie it together tightly. I've never had it leak, spill, or break- the broth containers are so secure they could be reusable." This level of care and attention to detail, even in takeout orders, is a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to quality.

Apr 05, 2025 · LazionVery quiet and calm place to eat. I like the seating! I feel like they're unique. The staff are very kind. I order takeout here frequently and it's always great. I *think* Jackie is the server who is always there? Its written on my takeout receipt. I think they're starting to recognize me and my boyfriend because I love it so much.I ordered dine in here the first time- if you like spicy, my roommate likes spicy food and ordered their spicy Tokyo, and it was the perfect level of spice for him. They offer a side of spicy paste, and I tried a bit. It was so hot that just a little bit was enough for my whole bowl. The server who is usually there advised I try the Tonkotsu and it was INCREDIBLE.The food comes out ridiculously fast for takeout and for dine in, and it's ALWAYS hot. I've never had it leak, spill, or break- the broth containers are so secure they could be reusable.I order the takeout a lot, specifically the Tonkotsu. I end up getting a bigger bowl at home, separating my ajitama and chashu, and then flopping the noodles and hot broth in together. If you stir slowly and let it separate, it comes apart easily and tastes incredible. I can eat one bowl and have it last me a day, and it's less than 15 bucks. I've been trying to make ajitama at home but it doesn't taste nearly as good- and the bone broth is impeccable. They do a great job blending the perfect amount of ingredients.Hats off to the chef, the staff, and this entire business! I'm a happy repeat customer.
May 11, 2024 · Breanna WathenThis was a great new Ramen place for me. It wasn't a flashy place that's overhyped. Though it is a little hidden in the parking lot and i drove by it the first time. It was just great Ramen with plenty of options to choose from. They gave healthy portions in their bowls which left us full and satisfied. Our waitress was amazing in helping us pick options and kept constantly checking in us. She even dealt with the fact that i kept dropping my chopsticks and provided me new ones without judgement lol. I'll definitely continue to make the drive here when I get a Ramen urge
Mar 07, 2023 · Terrence WaldonSo delicious! If you haven’t tried this traditional ramen place, stop by. It’s hidden for a reason. I was really surprised with the low ratings. The food is delicious and the size of the bowls are just right. The karaage was a little too tough for my liking, but still very flavorful. The ramen was comforting and enjoyable. The waitress was very friendly and attentive to us. Didn’t mind taking a longer drive for this hidden gem. Thanks chef!
Sep 18, 2022 · LoidaThe ramen was great. The broth had really good flavor and fresh ingredients. The noodles were thin but complimented the overall experience very well. I also added a spicy paste after tasting the ramen in its original form. The protein was very tender, and they supplied a good portion as well. The size of the ramen was perfect as I was full and wasn't overstuffed. The staff was very friendly and knew the menu well. They also had recommendations of what to get.The place was nice and there was adequate seating. There were some nice decor along the walls as well that added to the experience.I would definitely recommend this place as the ramen was very tasty.
