Jin Ramen

Ramen restaurant ★3.0 (8)·$20–30

302 W 144th St, New York, NY 10030, USA

This place is NOWHERE near authentic - or delicious.I've been to Japan, so I didn't expect a NYC restaurant to compete with that country's restaurants. I put off trying this takeout spot for months, and decided to finally give it a shot. I should have put it off permanently. This meal was disgusting. It took them 3 minutes to put this together. The ramen was overcooked, the broth was not fresh, the 2 TINY pieces of pork was overcooked, and the egg was brown due to sitting around for days. To top it off, Jin Ramen gave no utensils or napkins. My taste buds were not impressed, their presentation was non-existent, and their price was well over what it should have been. This was a nasty $23.00 meal, which I only took 2 bites. I wish I could give 0 stars for lack of taste and disregard for my health. Please avoid this place at all costs. - Big Bad Brown Wolf

Jin Ramen Introduce

jin ramen nyc

Hello, New Yorkers! When the craving for ramen strikes, the vast culinary landscape of our city offers countless options. From authentic traditional spots to modern fusion eateries, finding a reliable go-to can be a journey. For those living in or visiting Harlem, specifically around West 144th Street, a ramen establishment named Jin Ramen often comes up. In this article, we'll provide a local perspective on what you might expect from Jin Ramen, based on direct customer feedback, to help you decide if it’s the right fit for your next ramen experience.

It's important to approach any dining experience with realistic expectations, especially in a city as diverse and competitive as New York. When it comes to Jin Ramen at its 144th Street location, customer reviews offer a mixed but candid picture. Some patrons have expressed significant disappointment, noting that the food is "NOWHERE near authentic - or delicious." Specific complaints include "overcooked" ramen, broth that "was not fresh," and pork pieces that were "overcooked and tiny." There have also been mentions of issues with side items, such as an egg being "brown due to sitting around for days," and a lack of essential amenities like "utensils or napkins" for takeout orders. The price point, with one customer deeming a $23 meal "nasty" after only "2 bites," has also been a point of contention. These sentiments suggest that consistency and value for money might be key areas of concern for potential diners.

Location and Accessibility

Jin Ramen is located at 302 W 144th St, New York, NY 10030, USA. This address places it in the vibrant and historic Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan, an area known for its rich culture, community spirit, and evolving dining scene. West 144th Street is a residential and commercial thoroughfare, making the restaurant accessible to local residents and those working in the vicinity.

For New Yorkers relying on public transportation, the location offers reasonable access. It's typically within walking distance of several subway stations, including lines that serve Upper Manhattan. While specific subway lines weren't detailed in the provided information for this exact address, Harlem is generally well-connected by the A, B, C, and D subway lines, as well as local bus routes. For those driving, finding street parking in Harlem can sometimes be a challenge, though there may be local garages nearby for a fee. It's always advisable for locals to consider public transit for convenience when heading to this part of the city.

Services Offered

Based on the nature of a ramen restaurant in New York City, Jin Ramen likely offers the following services, keeping in mind that customer experiences regarding execution may vary:

  • Dine-In: Like most ramen establishments, Jin Ramen is expected to provide a physical space for customers to sit and enjoy their meal. While ambiance details were not extensively provided, it would typically be a casual setting.

  • Takeout: The provided reviews specifically mention "takeout spot" and "ordered through ubereats for take out," indicating that takeout is a key service offered by Jin Ramen. This caters to the busy lifestyle of New Yorkers who prefer to enjoy their meals at home or on the go.

  • Delivery: As highlighted by the "ubereats" reference, Jin Ramen likely partners with popular third-party food delivery platforms to extend its reach and offer convenient delivery services to customers within its delivery zone. This is a standard offering for many NYC restaurants today.

  • Ramen and Japanese Appetizers: The core of their menu would be various ramen bowls, typically including different broth bases and toppings. In addition, like most Japanese eateries, they would likely offer a selection of appetizers to complement the ramen, such as gyoza or other small plates.

Features / Highlights

Based on the provided customer feedback, it's challenging to highlight overwhelmingly positive features. Instead, we can focus on areas that customers have specifically commented on, whether for praise or concern.

  • Quick Service (Potential Feature, but also a concern): One customer noted, "It took them 3 minutes to put this together." While quick service can be a highlight for some diners, in this context, it was presented as a negative, suggesting speed might be prioritized over quality or fresh preparation for some items.

  • Accessibility for Takeout/Delivery: The fact that it's available via Uber Eats means it's a convenient option for those looking for a quick meal delivered to their doorstep in the Harlem area.

  • Menu Offerings (Variety): While specific positive comments on the taste were limited in the provided reviews, a typical ramen restaurant offers various ramen types (e.g., Tonkotsu, Miso, Shoyu) and other Japanese dishes like rice bowls (donburi) and appetizers. This variety generally aims to cater to different preferences, though the execution here is under scrutiny.

  • Neighborhood Presence: Being a ramen spot in Harlem means it fills a niche for local residents seeking this specific cuisine within their community, offering proximity as a key advantage, especially for casual takeout or delivery.

Promotions or Special Offers

Based on the limited information provided in the customer reviews, there is no direct mention of specific promotions or special offers at Jin Ramen. However, it is common for restaurants in New York City, particularly those offering takeout and delivery services, to engage in various promotional activities. New Yorkers might typically find:

  • Lunch Specials: Many ramen restaurants offer discounted ramen bowls or combo deals during lunchtime hours.

  • Delivery Platform Promotions: Discounts or free delivery might be available through third-party apps like Uber Eats (which one customer used), often as a platform-wide promotion or a specific restaurant deal.

  • Loyalty Programs: Some establishments offer loyalty programs or punch cards that reward frequent customers with discounts or free items.

To inquire about any current promotions or specials, it would be best for interested New Yorkers to contact Jin Ramen directly or check their listings on popular food delivery platforms, as these are the most likely places for such offers to be advertised.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For New Yorkers seeking a ramen spot in the Harlem area, Jin Ramen presents an option that, based on the provided reviews, requires careful consideration. While proximity and the convenience of takeout and delivery are undeniably appealing in a fast-paced city like New York, the explicit customer feedback regarding the quality, freshness, and value of the food at this specific location indicates potential challenges.

Locals often prioritize consistent quality and fair pricing, especially when dining out or ordering in. The reviews highlight concerns about the freshness of ingredients, the preparation quality (e.g., overcooked noodles and pork), and the overall taste. One customer's experience of a "nasty $23.00 meal" after only "2 bites" raises significant flags regarding value for money. While every restaurant can have an off day, and some online reviews can be outliers, the strong language used in the provided feedback ("NOWHERE near authentic - or delicious," "disgusting," "avoid this place at all costs") suggests a need for potential customers to manage their expectations.

Ultimately, for New Yorkers in the 144th Street area looking for ramen, Jin Ramen offers the convenience of being a local option with takeout and delivery services. However, based solely on the provided customer experiences, it appears that patrons should approach with caution and perhaps consider it a quick, casual option rather than a destination for an authentic or high-quality ramen experience. It is crucial for locals to weigh the convenience against the specific feedback on food quality and value before making their dining choice.
