Kappo DC Introduce
Nestled in the charming Palisades neighborhood, Kappo DC stands as a beacon of exquisite Japanese cuisine, offering a dining experience unlike any other in the nation's capital. This intimate, 21-seat restaurant isn't just about serving food; it's about crafting an immersive culinary journey, primarily centered around the art of wagyu beef. For those in Washington, D.C., seeking a truly special and unforgettable meal, Kappo DC has quickly become a must-visit destination.
Drawing its lineage from the revered Sakedokoro Makoto, a Japanese culinary landmark established in 1994, Kappo DC is the reimagined vision of Chef Minoru Ogawa, a former colleague of the late Chef Yoshiaki Itoh. The name "Kappo," meaning "to cut and cook," perfectly encapsulates the restaurant's philosophy: a dynamic and interactive dining style where the chef's mastery is showcased right before your eyes. This approach creates a unique connection between the diner and the culinary process, making each visit feel less like a restaurant outing and more like an exclusive, celebratory gathering.
Patrons consistently rave about the phenomenal experience, highlighting the delicious and filling multi-course meals where flavors interact amazingly. From significant anniversaries to casual yet refined evenings out, Kappo DC has garnered a reputation for over-delivering on its promise of culinary excellence and impeccable service. The intimate setting combined with the personalized attention from Chef Ogawa and his team ensures that every guest feels truly special, making it a beloved spot for D.C. locals.

Apr 07, 2025 · Ign ZIt was a lovely experience, but a bit pricy for what it’s worth IMO. My favorites were the wagyu steak and Umi no sachi. Given that the emphasis is supposed to be the meat, I felt some of the wagyu dishes were lacking. Worth trying once with the sake pairing.
May 10, 2025 · Candace MetcalfeTruly a remarkable experience in DC! I felt like I was in Japan enjoying a good meal and a good time! This winter menu is full of delicious wagyu, caviar, drinks, and more! Thank you for an amazing omakase night out with friends!
Jan 27, 2025 · Bianca MoskaitisThis was the most incredible dining experience I have had in my entire life. I had the pleasure of dining here for my anniversary. Walking up to the restaurant is like stepping in to a restaurant in Japan. The architecture of the entrance transports you. Walking in the greet staff was friendly and took our coats. We chose to reserve a seat at the bar since you can watch the chefs prepare each meal. The ambiance of is intimate and hospitable, resembling the inside of a traditional Japanese restaurant. The seats were comfortable and dining wear was gorgeous. I loved the style of service. We were able to settle in and enjoy drinks before the first course. We did decide to include the uni in our experience which was phenomenal. The uni was comparable to fresh ocean water and certainly enhanced the experience. The wagyu is clearly carefully selected and cut meticulously before charcoal grilled. Each dish is carefully prepared and lovingly plated. Truly, I have never had a better steak in my life. The wagyu is unlike any other I’ve tried before; buttery and nearly melts in your mouth. The cocktails, out of this world! I loved the final touch of tea with dessert. They also were so kind as to offer a complimentary glass of Champagne for our occasion.Ultimately, I wish I could eat here everyday. Each day would certainly be more special than the last. Thank you for sharing your talent and art with us here in DC. ♥️🙏
