Kura Revolving Sushi Bar

3150 Wilshire Blvd Suite 114, Los Angeles, CA 90010, USA

4.0
This is a revolving sushi bar where sushi arrives on a conveyor belt and you take what you want. It’s fun to try out for the novelty and the system encourages you to grab more plates to earn a prize. You earn a prize after eating a certain amount of plates and dumping them in the special chute on one end of the table that collects the plates. Definitely more worth it to check this out with friends, it seems like 4 people can fit comfortably to each of the smaller tables. Depending where you sit, you might not end up with much variety but thankfully there is an overhead special belt and digital tablet where you can order more of what you desire for express delivery. Also on the tablet, you can order foods that they might not carry on the standard conveyor belt. This place was moderately busy on a lunch weekend. Definitely worth checking out for the novelty. The staff are really nice and patient with greeting and checking in, they also gave us a ball because the machine at our station was jammed when trying to collect our prize. The ambiance is generally a bit isolated with our group having some privacy, there is music that plays overhead and nothing unpleasant to write about. There is parking somewhere in the back that might be paid parking but there happened to be street metered parking at the front too. - Kevin Chen

Wilshire Boulevard is a major artery in Los Angeles, ensuring straightforward access by car from various neighborhoods and freeways. For those driving, parking is a key consideration in Koreatown. While Kura Revolving Sushi Bar itself does not typically offer on-site parking, the location within a plaza or complex on Wilshire often means there are nearby paid parking structures or lots available. Some reviews mention parking "somewhere in the back that might be paid parking," and there's often "street metered parking at the front too." While parking might require a bit of searching or a short walk, the options are usually available, common for urban dining in Los Angeles.

For patrons who prefer public transportation, Kura's location on Wilshire Boulevard is exceptionally well-served. Numerous Metro bus lines run directly along Wilshire, providing convenient access from various parts of the city. Additionally, Koreatown is a central hub for Metro Rail, with several subway stations (such as Wilshire/Western or Wilshire/Normandie) within a reasonable distance, offering further connectivity for those traveling from further reaches of Los Angeles and beyond.

The vibrant atmosphere of Koreatown itself adds to the appeal, allowing diners to enjoy the surrounding shops and cultural experiences before or after their meal. The combination of its prominent location and diverse transit options makes Kura Revolving Sushi Bar highly accessible for a wide range of local diners in California.

Services Offered

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar offers a dynamic and interactive dining experience centered around its unique conveyor belt system, complemented by a broad menu of authentic Japanese cuisine.

  • Revolving Sushi Conveyor Belt: The primary service feature is the "sushi-go-round" or "kaiten-zushi" system. Freshly prepared plates of sushi, rolls, and other dishes are continuously circulated on a conveyor belt past every table and counter seat, allowing diners to instantly pick up what appeals to them. Each plate typically has a fixed price (e.g., $3.99 per plate).

  • Digital Tablet Ordering & Express Belt: For items not currently on the main conveyor belt, or for specific preferences, each table is equipped with a digital tablet. Customers can order directly from this tablet, and their customized dishes are then delivered rapidly via a separate, express conveyor belt directly to their table. This ensures variety and freshness.

  • "Bikkura Pon" Prize System: An engaging interactive feature where diners can earn prizes. After consuming a certain number of plates (typically 15 plates), which are disposed of in a special chute at the table, a prize capsule is dispensed from a machine above the table. This gamified system adds an element of fun and encourages diners, especially groups and families, to enjoy more plates. Kura often partners with popular franchises (like Peanuts or Pikmin) for limited-edition prize collections.

  • Extensive Sushi & Roll Selection: The menu boasts a wide variety of sushi, including nigiri (e.g., Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail, Eel, Albacore Toro, American Wagyu), and numerous specialty rolls (e.g., Rainbow Roll, Golden Crunchy Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Shrimp Avocado Roll, Spider Roll).

  • Beyond Sushi Offerings: Kura's menu extends beyond just sushi to include other popular Japanese dishes such as:

    • Sides: Tempura (shrimp, vegetable), Edamame, Gyoza (dumplings), Karaage (fried chicken)
    • Soups & Noodles: Ramen (Tonkotsu, Spicy Miso), Udon
    • Desserts: Various Japanese-inspired desserts like Mochi Ice Cream, Taiyaki Ice Cream, and Tempura Ice Cream.
    • Beverages: A selection of soft drinks, Japanese teas, and alcoholic beverages including beer and sake.
  • Reservations & Waitlist Management: Kura is a popular spot, and they often utilize a digital waitlist system, accessible via their app, to manage crowds. While a reservation is highly recommended, especially during busy times, this system helps minimize physical waiting outside.

  • Dine-In Experience: The restaurant is designed primarily for an interactive dine-in experience, though takeout options are typically available through online ordering platforms.

Features / Highlights

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar stands out significantly in the Los Angeles dining scene due to its distinctive features and highlights, offering a memorable experience that goes beyond just the food.

  • Novel Revolving Sushi Concept: The most prominent highlight is the conveyor belt system itself. This "sushi-go-round" (kaiten-zushi) creates an "incredibly fun" and interactive dining experience. Diners can instantly select plates as they pass by, making it a dynamic and engaging way to enjoy sushi. This novelty factor is a huge draw, especially for first-time visitors and groups.

  • Interactive "Bikkura Pon" Prize Game: Unique to Kura, the Bikkura Pon system is a major highlight. By depositing empty plates into a chute, customers earn chances to win small prizes from a machine at their table (typically after every 15 plates). This gamified element adds an extra layer of entertainment, making the meal exciting, particularly for children and competitive adults. Kura often features limited-edition collaboration prizes (e.g., with Peanuts or Pikmin), adding collectibility.

  • Digital Tablet Ordering & Express Delivery: To ensure variety and freshness, each table has a digital tablet for custom orders. These orders are then delivered quickly via a separate "overhead special belt," ensuring that desired items arrive promptly and directly to the customer, overcoming the potential limitation of variety on the main belt. This technology enhances efficiency and customization.

  • Fresh and Delicious Food: Despite the high-tech delivery system, the quality of the food remains a core highlight. Customers consistently praise the sushi and other dishes as "delicious" and "consistently fresh." While plate prices are standardized, the quality offered for that price point is generally considered good value.

  • Variety of Menu Items: Kura offers more than just sushi. Its menu includes a diverse range of Japanese favorites such as various types of nigiri, rolls, tempura, gyoza, ramen, udon, and desserts. This breadth of options ensures that there's something to satisfy different cravings and dietary preferences.

  • Friendly and Patient Staff: Customer reviews often commend the "really nice and patient" staff, who are attentive during greetings and check-ins. This contributes significantly to a pleasant overall dining atmosphere.

  • Group and Family-Friendly Ambiance: The seating arrangement, with tables accommodating groups, and the interactive elements make Kura an excellent choice for dining with friends or family. The "ambiance is generally a bit isolated with our group having some privacy," allowing for comfortable conversation.

Promotions or Special Offers

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar frequently engages in promotions and special offers, primarily centered around its unique interactive features and seasonal collaborations, making dining even more enticing for locals in California.

  • "Bikkura Pon" Prize Collaborations: The most consistent and highly anticipated promotion at Kura is its "Bikkura Pon" prize system. While prizes are earned by consuming 15 plates, Kura frequently partners with popular intellectual properties (such as Peanuts, PAC-MAN™, Pikmin, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dragon Ball Super, One Piece) for limited-edition collectible prize capsules. These collaborations drive excitement and encourage repeat visits to collect the full sets. This is a continuous special offer that keeps the dining experience fresh.

  • Reward Member Exclusives: Kura Sushi often offers exclusive benefits and giveaways for members of their Kura Sushi Rewards program. For example, during certain collaboration periods (like with Pikmin), reward members might be eligible for in-store giveaways, such as a themed T-shirt with a qualifying purchase (e.g., $70 or more before tax and tip). Signing up for their rewards program is a good way for locals to access these recurring perks.

  • Sweepstakes and Contests: Occasionally, Kura runs sweepstakes, such as the "Berry Fun" sweepstakes tied to the Peanuts collaboration, where dining in and spending a certain amount (e.g., $70 or more) could enter guests into a drawing for significant prizes (e.g., family packs to theme parks).

  • Limited-Time Menu Items: During collaboration periods, Kura often introduces specially crafted dishes inspired by the theme. For instance, the Pikmin collaboration featured a Blue Pikmin Cheesecake, Yellow Pikmin Cheese Tamago, and Red Pikmin Crunchy Roll. These limited-time culinary creations offer a unique tasting experience.

  • App-Based Benefits: While not a direct promotion, using the Kura Sushi app for managing the waitlist is crucial and often recommended. The app might also include information on current specials or loyalty points that can translate to discounts or free items.

  • Standard Plate Pricing: While prices can vary slightly by location and over time, the standardized plate pricing (often around $3.70-$3.99 per plate) offers transparency and allows diners to manage their spending easily, providing a consistent value proposition.

For the most up-to-date information on current promotions, prize collaborations, and reward member benefits, it is highly recommended that locals visit Kura Sushi's official website, check their social media channels, or download the Kura Sushi Rewards app.
