Sawtelle Boulevard is a well-known thoroughfare, offering relatively straightforward access for those driving from various parts of Los Angeles. Kura Revolving Sushi Bar provides a unique and interactive dining experience centered around its innovative conveyor belt system, complemented by modern ordering methods.
- Conveyor Belt Dining (Kaiten Sushi): The signature service involves a rotating conveyor belt that winds through the restaurant, carrying plates of sushi, rolls, appetizers, and desserts past every table and seat. Customers can simply pick their desired dishes directly from the belt as they pass.
- Touchscreen Ordering for Special Requests: For items not currently on the conveyor belt or for specific orders, customers can use a touchscreen tablet at their table. This allows for direct, customized orders that are often delivered to the table via a separate express lane.
- Authentic Japanese Cuisine: Kura offers a wide array of authentic Japanese dishes, including various types of nigiri sushi (e.g., Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail), sashimi, and a diverse selection of traditional and contemporary sushi rolls. The "plates all tasted fresh and delicious," as noted by a customer, highlighting the quality.
- Beyond Sushi: The menu extends beyond just sushi to include popular Japanese side dishes such as Gyoza, Tempura (like Shrimp Tempura), various Japanese fried chicken (Karaage), and even noodle dishes and soups like Miso Soup and Udon. There is "a selection of accompanying offerings" to round out the meal.
- Desserts: A selection of Japanese-inspired desserts is available, often on the conveyor belt or orderable via touchscreen.
- Beverage Selection: The restaurant offers a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, including Japanese sodas (like Ramune and Calpico), and often a selection of beer and sake.
- Takeout and Catering: While primarily a dine-in experience, Kura offers convenient options for takeout. They also provide sushi platters and catering services for larger gatherings, allowing customers to enjoy their fresh sushi at events.
- Bikkura Pon Reward System: A fun, interactive feature, customers can drop empty plates into a chute at their table. After every five plates, a short animation plays on the touchscreen, and for every fifteen plates, a small prize (a capsule toy) is dispensed, which is particularly popular with families and children. This is the "win a prize" feature mentioned in reviews.
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar in Sawtelle distinguishes itself with several unique features that make it a compelling and engaging dining destination for Californians seeking fresh and fun Japanese cuisine.
- Innovative Revolving Sushi Concept: The most prominent feature is the "revolving track" or "conveyor belt" system, which offers a "unique dining experience" where "plates all tasted fresh and delicious" as they travel past diners. This interactive approach provides a "quick and efficient dining experience" as customers can instantly pick what they want, eliminating wait times for ordering. "It was my first time ever experiencing a sushi revolving restaurant, I definitely recommend!" exclaimed a satisfied customer.
- Commitment to Freshness with "Mr. Fresh™": Kura emphasizes its dedication to serving "Always Fresh" food. They utilize a patented "Mr. Fresh™ ventilated sushi lid with plate-tracking technology." This system not only ensures the food on the conveyor belt remains at optimal freshness but also monitors how long a plate has been circulating, removing items that have been out for too long. This helps ensure "the fish needs to be fresh," a key baseline requirement.
- Authentic Japanese Quality & "Muten" Philosophy: Kura adheres to the Japanese "virtue of serving natural and healthy meals." Their "philosophy of 'muten' or 'nothing added'" means their food is prepared using "fresh, high quality ingredients free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives, and colorings." This commitment to natural ingredients is a significant highlight for health-conscious diners.
- Interactive Technology for Custom Orders: Beyond the conveyor belt, each table is equipped with a "touch screen ordering" tablet for "special orders." This allows diners to request specific items not on the belt, which are then often delivered directly to their seat via a "secondary belt" or "automated delivery tray," enhancing efficiency and customization. There is also mention of "a delivery robot that will go back and forth between the kitchen and tables," further highlighting their tech integration.
- **"Bikkura Pon" Reward System for Fun**: This unique "gimmick" (in a positive sense) is a major draw, especially for families. By depositing empty plates into a table-side slot, diners can earn points that lead to small prize capsules from a gashapon machine. This adds a playful, arcade-like element to the meal; "if you get 10 plates you win a prize."
- Diverse and Creative Menu: Kura continuously offers a "Creative Menu," with "new seasonal dishes every month!" While sushi is primary, they also offer a range of sides, noodle dishes, and desserts, ensuring variety for every palate. "The selection of rolls, sushi, poke, etc." ensures ample choices.
- **"Good Quality and Taste": Customers affirm that the "quality is good and the taste of the sushi is also pretty good." While one review noted it's "definitely not cheap" at $150 for four, it's considered a "special treat every once in a while," implying the quality justifies the price.
- Efficient and Friendly Staff**: Despite being an "automated experience," the staff are described as "quick and friendly getting your ordered item," demonstrating that human service complements the technology effectively.
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, being a popular and family-oriented establishment, often provides various promotions and loyalty programs designed to enhance the dining experience and offer value. While specific promotions can vary by location and time, locals in California should keep an eye out for these common offerings:
- Bikkura Pon Rewards: As a built-in promotion, the Bikkura Pon prize system rewards diners for every 15 plates consumed (by dropping them into the table-side chute). This gamified system provides a fun incentive to try more dishes and offers small, collectible prizes, especially appealing to children. One review specifically mentions, "if you get 10 plates you win a prize," referring to this system.
- Seasonal Menu Items: Kura regularly introduces new and "delicious and delightful menu items" on a seasonal basis. While not a discount, these limited-time offerings provide a "special" experience and encourage repeat visits to try the latest creations.
- Kura Sushi App & Loyalty Program: Kura offers a comprehensive "Kura Sushi Rewards" program via their mobile app. By signing up, members can:
- Earn points with every meal (typically 10 points for every $1 spent).
- Receive a $5 reward for every 500 points earned.
- Access exclusive "Promos" and "Offers."
- Get a complimentary dessert on their birthday (with a minimum purchase).
- Join the waitlist remotely.
- Online Ordering / Delivery Platform Specials: Periodically, Kura may participate in promotions with third-party delivery services (like Uber Eats, DoorDash, Postmates) offering discounts on orders or free delivery for a limited time. Checking these apps is advisable. For instance, some promotions might include 5% off your first online order for pick-up/delivery or even free delivery on orders over $50.
- Gift Cards: Kura offers gift cards, which can be a great way for customers to purchase meals for others or to pre-load funds for their own visits, sometimes coming with bonus offers during holiday seasons.
For the most current and specific details on any ongoing promotions, locals are encouraged to visit the official Kura Revolving Sushi Bar website, download their app, or inquire directly at the Sawtelle location.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar Reviews
I really loved this place! It was my first time ever experiencing a sushi revolving restaurant, I definitely recommend! The plates all tasted fresh and delicious. It was 4 of us and it came out to $150, so it’s definitely not cheap. I recommend as a special treat every once in a while 😊
May 04, 2025 · Nerdy soulThe Baseline: For Sushi the fish needs to be fresh, the presentation must be good, there must be a selection of accompanying offerings, and there are unique offerings.Food: The selection of rolls, sushi, poke, etc. comes around a revolving track which you can grab as the plates come by. The sushi rolls are more of a single serving but each plate averages about $4 each. The quality is good and the taste of the sushi is also pretty good. This meets the baseline.Service: This is an automated experience but the staff are quick and friendly getting your ordered item.Ambiance: The restaurant is a fun experience. Touch screen ordering and if you get 10 plates you win a prize. There is also a delivery robot that will go back and forth between the kitchen and tables.
Feb 22, 2025 · Noahark WVLove this place!!! Super authentic Nippon revolving sushi. Always fun to eat here. The only thing I would say is that they should price things accordingly. Inari (tofu skin) and Tamago Egg shouldn’t be the same price as sushi. But all in all we love coming here. Especially for the umami seared beef.
May 12, 2025 · Eric CruzI feel obligated to warn about this place. At $2 per nigiri, its huge wad of rice and Extremely thin even lazy partial cuts. The poke salad, had multiple pieces of chia and gristle, the pieces themselves were seriously ranging from smaller than a dime to at largest a nickel, and thin tiny. Idk if they had a problem with us or thought were were stupid, but I've had way better sushi at this price, and what i got I've honestly never seen before besides at the cheapest places. Not to mention the 1 hour wait. At 60$ for a very small amount of food, i felt robbed. The convenience store right next to it had significant better deal and better cuts and i could have actually enjoyed my night.Seriously, either they purposely singled us out and rippled us off, or this place is an absolute rip off.I don't like to do this, but this is the truth and I'm appalled it was so busy and people are content paying top dollar for the chia and grissle that any real sushi place literally throws in the trash or makes soup with.
Feb 09, 2025 · Hen KochA different way to enjoy good sushi, they parade in front of you so you can choose the one you like the most. The prices are fair.
