Mandolin Sushi & Japanese steak house Introduce
For individuals in Tacoma, WA, seeking a Japanese dining experience that combines both sushi and steakhouse offerings, Mandolin Sushi & Japanese Steak House presents itself as a local option. Located at 3923 S 12th St, Tacoma, WA 98405, USA, this establishment aims to cater to a diverse range of preferences within Japanese cuisine. While our platform, "Doctor Near Me," is dedicated to connecting users with essential healthcare services, we acknowledge that information about local businesses, including dining establishments, contributes to overall community well-being and informed consumer choices. In this spirit, we will provide an objective introduction to Mandolin Sushi & Japanese Steak House, drawing directly from recent customer feedback regarding its environment, services, features, and any perceived promotional aspects.
The environment at Mandolin Sushi & Japanese Steak House appears to offer distinct dining experiences, catering to different preferences. There is a "dine in side without the main attraction," suggesting a traditional restaurant setting for those who prefer a quieter meal, and a "main attraction" area, presumably the hibachi or teppanyaki section, where the chef's performance is part of the dining experience. One reviewer noted that the atmosphere in the hibachi area could be "a little intense" due to some customers "going way overboard" with their reactions, indicating a lively, potentially boisterous, and interactive setting. The presence of "clean bathrooms" is a positive aspect noted by a customer, contributing to overall comfort. However, a significant concern regarding cleanliness was raised, with observations of a hallway and mirror behind seating that "hadn’t been cleaned in a month or more," covered with "dust." This raises questions about the overall tidiness of areas beyond the immediate dining tables and potentially the kitchen. The reviewer also mentions that it's "an old building," which might contribute to some of these challenges, but highlights that "the lack of cleanliness and tidiness makes me cringe at what the kitchen may look like." This feedback provides a mixed picture of the environment, suggesting a potentially entertaining setting balanced by concerns about general maintenance and cleanliness in certain areas.
The service at Mandolin Sushi & Japanese Steak House generally receives positive comments, particularly regarding attentiveness. Upon entry, customers are "greeted and seated" promptly. One waitress was described as "super attentive," actively answering questions and proactively refilling drinks multiple times without being asked. This level of attentiveness is a strong positive for table service. In the hibachi section, the "chef was engaging and kept everyone happy and entertained," which is a crucial aspect of the teppanyaki dining experience. This indicates that the staff, particularly servers and hibachi chefs, are committed to providing an enjoyable and responsive dining experience. While the overall service seems to be well-regarded, the cleanliness concerns raised by one customer indirectly impact the perception of overall care and attention within the establishment, which can be part of the service experience as well.
Mandolin Sushi & Japanese Steak House features a dual culinary offering: sushi and Japanese steakhouse (likely hibachi) fare. The portions served are consistently described as "huge," with one customer remarking they were "not expecting to have to take so much food home." This indicates significant value in terms of quantity. Regarding the food quality, the "sushi we had was very very good though. Definitely 5 stars on that portion," which is a strong commendation for their sushi offerings. This suggests that the sushi chefs are skilled and use fresh ingredients. For the steakhouse side, one customer found their meat "delicious none the less" despite wishing it was "more seasoned," indicating a generally positive, but not entirely perfect, experience with the main protein. The "peach, blueberry and strawberry lemonades were good," with the "strawberry was the best," highlighting positive beverage options. However, the "soup was surprisingly bland no flavor at all," which indicates inconsistency in the quality of accompanying dishes. The entertaining aspect of the hibachi chef is a key feature of that specific dining experience, making it a fun place to eat for many. The menu encompasses a wide range of options, from various sushi and sashimi choices to hibachi-grilled meats and seafood, providing variety for different tastes.
Regarding promotional information, the provided reviews do not explicitly detail any ongoing discounts, special offers, or loyalty programs for Mandolin Sushi & Japanese Steak House. However, the consistent mention of "huge" portion sizes can be considered an inherent promotional aspect, as it conveys value to the customer. While the experience was noted as "expensive," the reviewer quickly added, "but it was worth it." This suggests that for many, the combination of large portions, entertaining chefs, and good quality food (especially sushi) justifies the price point, acting as its own form of promotion. The willingness of customers to "definitely visit again" despite the cost also speaks to a perceived value proposition. The entertainment provided by the hibachi chefs also serves as a draw, encouraging repeat visits for a lively dining experience rather than solely focusing on discounted prices. The emphasis appears to be on providing a robust and entertaining meal that offers substantial quantity for the price paid, rather than relying on traditional promotional campaigns.
In conclusion, Mandolin Sushi & Japanese Steak House, located at 3923 S 12th St, Tacoma, WA 98405, USA, and reachable at (253) 301-4969 or +1 253-301-4969, offers a distinct Japanese dining experience in Tacoma. It provides both a traditional dine-in area and an interactive hibachi experience with engaging chefs. The service is generally attentive and polite, contributing positively to the customer experience. The food features "huge" portions, and the sushi receives high praise for its quality. However, potential patrons should be aware of reported concerns regarding general cleanliness in certain areas beyond the immediate dining spaces, which some customers found unsettling. While noted as "expensive," many reviewers felt the experience was "worth it" due to the generous portions and entertainment. For users of a platform like "Doctor Near Me," while not directly a healthcare provider, Mandolin Sushi & Japanese Steak House contributes to the community's social well-being by offering a place for dining and celebration. It presents a mixed but generally positive picture, with strong points in service and sushi quality, balanced by some concerns regarding overall cleanliness and atmosphere intensity for some.

Mandolin Sushi & Japanese steak house Reviews
Had a great experience here. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated. We choose the dine in side without the main attraction. Our waitress was super attentive answered all our questions and without having to ask once came around to fill our drink four times. The servings were huge, I was not expecting to have to take so much food home. I would have liked my meat to be more seasoned but it was delicious none the less. The peach, blueberry and strawberry lemonades were good but the strawberry was the best. The soup was surprisingly bland no flavor at all. The atmosphere was a little intense for me. I am used to the hype yelling along with the cook but some of the grown men (customers) in there were going way overboard like it's a food establishment not a baseball game lol. The bathrooms were clean and of course it was expensive but it was worth it. I would definitely visit again.
Jun 22, 2024 · Denise CIt was a fun place to eat. The chef was engaging and kept everyone happy and entertained.I would like to see more attention on keeping the restaurant clean. Behind us was a hallway with chairs and a mirror. It was obvious those things hadn’t been cleaned in a month or more: mirror was covered with dust. It’s an old building but the lack of cleanliness and tidiness makes me cringe at what the kitchen may look like. The sushi we had was very very good though. Definitely 5 stars on that portion.
Feb 02, 2025 · Jefferson KlixEverything cost OVER TWICE as much as the cruddy old menu photos they have on their website. Management is in the reviews here, lying that their website is updated, but it's not. A quick takeout of 3 small dishes came out over 90 dollars.
May 20, 2025 · t officinaleWe wanted hibachi and this place hit the spot. We came in for lunch on a Saturday, so we did the lunch special that included an entree, miso soup, and salad. All of the staff members were very friendly and the food was hot and fresh. It’s always fun to watch the food being prepared on the grill. The portions were generous, so I was able to eat my leftovers for dinner that day. We haven’t tried any of the sushi here yet, so maybe we will get that next time.
