Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House | San Mateo Introduce
Located conveniently within the bustling Hillsdale Mall at 68 Hillsdale Mall, San Mateo, CA 94403, Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House | San Mateo offers a distinctive and highly interactive Japanese dining experience. This restaurant specializes in all-you-can-eat (AYCE) shabu-shabu, focusing on premium Wagyu beef, making it a highly sought-after destination for meat lovers and those seeking a unique culinary adventure. For local users searching within the "Doctor Near Me" platform category, Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House provides an exceptional, highly-rated, and accessible option for a special occasion or an indulgent meal, differentiating itself from typical quick-service establishments.
- All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) Concept: The core service is an AYCE model, offering various tiers of quality and selection, including their signature Wagyu beef. This allows diners to enjoy unlimited portions of their chosen meats, vegetables, and other side dishes within a set time limit.
- Attentive and Explanatory Staff: Servers are highly praised for their attentiveness and willingness to thoroughly explain the concept, menu tiers, and cooking process. This is particularly valuable for first-time visitors to ensure they get the most out of their shabu-shabu experience. They are proactive in "taking away empty plates" and "coming back to ask what we wanted as soon as our plates were empty," ensuring a continuous flow of food.
- Efficient Food Delivery: Despite being AYCE, food delivery to the table is remarkably fast. "Right after we were done ordering, the meat was already on our table," which adds to the seamless dining flow.
- Grill Cleaning and Swapping: The staff are diligent in helping "clean and swap our grills well," maintaining a clean and pleasant cooking environment throughout the meal.
- Birthday Accommodations: The restaurant is accommodating for celebrations, allowing guests to "bring our cake in and cut it there for free," which is a thoughtful touch for birthday parties.
- Time Limit Enforcement: It's important to note that Mikiya is "super strict with their times," typically enforcing a 90-minute limit. While they "will kick you out," they do so "very nicely," ensuring the table turnover for other eager diners. This is a crucial piece of information for planning your visit.
For direct inquiries or potentially booking reservations, Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House can be reached at (650) 865-5665 or +1 650-865-5665. Given its popularity, making reservations, especially for larger groups or peak times, is highly recommended.
- Wagyu Beef Selection: The centerpiece of the menu is undoubtedly the Wagyu beef. Customers consistently describe the beef as "very tender and tasty when it all cooked," highlighting its premium quality. While different tiers are offered, even the "cheapest option was already perfect" for some, indicating that quality is maintained across various price points.
- Soup Bases: A variety of soup bases are available for the shabu-shabu hot pot. The "sukiyaki soup" is a particular favorite among reviewers. Other options include "spicy miso" (though noted as "too spicy" for some) and "tomato" (described as "a little too sour" by one). This variety allows diners to customize their hot pot experience.
- Extensive AYCE Menu: Beyond the main meats, the all-you-can-eat menu offers a wide variety of "side dishes and drinks" that are also praised. The menu includes various vegetables, noodles, and other items to complement the shabu-shabu.
- Appetizers and Other Dishes: The menu extends to include appetizers such as "bone marrow and beef tartar," which are popular choices. One reviewer also tried a "sushi version" of the tare-tare, which was enjoyed.
- Caution Regarding Seafood: While a "seafood platter" is offered, some serious caution is advised. A reviewer reported that "two people from my party got food poisoning" and the "only difference on what they ate was octopus." This strongly suggests to "avoid seafood in general here and just go for the wagyu." This objective feedback is crucial for potential diners.
- Quality of Meat: Despite the seafood warning, the meat quality is consistently lauded. "Meat was fresh" is a recurring comment, ensuring a satisfying shabu-shabu experience centered around their core offering.
In conclusion, Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House | San Mateo offers an exhilarating and delicious all-you-can-eat Wagyu shabu-shabu experience. Its prime location in Hillsdale Mall, coupled with its attentive service, diverse menu (with a strong recommendation to focus on the meats), and accommodating nature for celebrations, makes it a highly recommended spot for those seeking a unique and indulgent Japanese dining adventure in San Mateo. Remember the 90-minute time limit and focus on the excellent beef for a truly satisfying meal.

May 25, 2025 · Jenny XuHonestly speaking, forgot to take pictures cos I was too excited to try this place after a friend recommended it. The service here is exceptional. Our waiter explained to us what different tiers are there and what's included, after we picked the diamond tier (what I would recommend since there's no limit on anything on the menu), he asked us what we wanted to order. We order plates of meat and other appetizers like bone marrow and beef tartar. Right after we were done ordering, the meat was already on our table. They were very attentive and took away our empty plates. Food came out fast. Meat was fresh. We also ordered the seafood platter but don't think it's as good since I didn't think it was super fresh. It was good just not as good as I'd hoped. They kept coming back to ask us what we wanted as soon as our plates were empty. There's no limit on how many you can order either. One thing about this place though is that they limit your time to 90 mins and on the spot, they will kick you out but asked very nicely. I would recommend to try at least once.Hold that thought, it looks like two people from my party got food poisoning. The only difference on what they ate was octopus. I would just avoid seafood in general here and just go for the wagyu.
May 30, 2025 · Pak KoYou need a reservation or wait accordingly. I picked the recommended broth with the diamond package, it was all worth the price. Excellent food, great celebration place, the bone marrow plate is a must, A5 Wagyu is the standard. Love this place.
Apr 19, 2025 · Thomas VitalWhile the food at this restaurant was absolutely fantastic (and definitely worth the wait), what truly stood out to me was the exceptional service provided by the host, Vivian. This place is so popular now that it’s always packed, with a line forming outside. But despite the hustle and bustle, Vivian made a lasting impression from the moment I arrived.Even though she had been working all day, she greeted me with the biggest, warmest smile, instantly making me feel welcome. You could tell she loves what she does, as she remained so enthusiastic, professional, and friendly with every guest she encountered. What really impressed me was how Vivian didn’t just take care of the seating process but also made sure to check in with everyone who was still waiting. Instead of making guests wonder how much longer the wait would be—like you typically experience at other restaurants—Vivian personally approached each group to reassure them and let them know how much longer they could expect to wait. It’s a small but significant gesture that made all the difference.Even after she seated guests, Vivian continued to go above and beyond. On her way back to the front, she took the time to stop by our table, ask how our night was going, and see if there was anything we needed. It’s not something she had to do, but she did it because she genuinely cares about her customers and loves making them feel valued.Vivian’s level of dedication and passion for her job is truly extraordinary, and it made my experience at the restaurant even more memorable. I hope the management and owners take note of how exceptional she is and recognize her hard work. Thank you, Vivian, for making our visit so special and for delivering such outstanding customer service!
Mar 02, 2025 · Rosie YFirst time trying Mikiya. The service was great and attentive. The meat for the Silver Wagyu set was great quality. The two most popular soup bases were great and it’s likely the same for the others.Knocked off a star for food only for the buffet area. The extra vegetables for shabu were great, but things like seaweed salad and ice cream tasted a little artificial for my liking.Atmosphere overall was great, but one less star for slippery floor tiling in main walkways you wouldn’t think would be slippery.Overall, I’ll be back again. Bonus, the booth seats fit an infant car seat.
