Okane

669 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA

4.0
This romantic lil sushi spot made the perfect birthday dinner to celebrate my boyfriend. The staff was attentive and welcoming and sitting at the bar to watch the sushi master delicately prepare each item added the perfect experiential element. For a place that only serves fish imported directly from Japan, it was amazing to walk away spending only $150 total (for two people) while feeling absolutely full. The prices felt very reasonable (for SF, of course) but the quality and creativity of each item was top notch.Favorites included the chicken kaarage, temaki hand rolls, and Rainbow Roll. We ordered the Roppongi Roll after seeing it all over the reviews here (it’s the one wrapped in cucumber), and while it was fresh it was a bit underwhelming compared to the other rolls — I’d probably opt for other rolls next time we go.The staff was attentive and made us feel so welcome — they even brought us a bit of complimentary yuzu sake and a gold-dusted strawberry matcha dessert. Wow!The sushi chefs were mesmerizing to watch work, and they were friendly with those of us at the counter. They answered questions about the fish they were preparing and offered recommendations. It felt very intimate and cozy, really elevating the overall experience.Overall, this was the PERFECT choice for a romantic birthday dinner, and I can’t wait to come back. - Matty Easton
