Poke Bowl Introduce
For Texans in Austin seeking fresh and reliable Japanese-inspired cuisine, particularly poke bowls, it's essential to be well-informed about dining options. While the convenience and customizable nature of poke bowls have made them a popular choice, the experience can vary significantly between establishments. This overview aims to provide factual information regarding Poke Bowl located on Guadalupe Street in Austin, based on recent public reviews, to help local users make informed decisions about their dining choices. Our priority is to present an accurate picture of the feedback received, emphasizing transparency and customer well-being.
Recent customer experiences suggest significant concerns regarding the quality of food, cleanliness, and customer service at this particular location. It is crucial for local diners to be aware of these reported issues, which include serious allegations concerning food freshness and hygiene. While the concept of a poke bowl restaurant offers exciting possibilities for healthy and customizable meals, the foundation of any reputable food establishment must be stringent adherence to food safety standards and a commitment to customer satisfaction. We aim to present these public reports clearly and factually to assist our community.
Poke Bowl is located at 2828 Guadalupe St #100, Austin, TX 78705, USA. This address places it within a vibrant and generally high-traffic area of Austin, particularly popular with university students and local residents due to its proximity to the University of Texas at Austin campus. Guadalupe Street is a major artery, making the location easily accessible via car, public transportation, or on foot for those in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The establishment is situated in a retail unit, typical for quick-service eateries in urban environments. While the accessibility of the location is generally good, recent customer reviews have raised concerns about the internal conditions, specifically mentioning the cleanliness and overall appearance of the premises. These reports suggest that despite a convenient location, the environment inside may not meet expected hygiene standards, which is a critical consideration for any food service business.
Based on its name, "Poke Bowl," the establishment's core services are centered around customizable poke bowls, a popular Japanese-Hawaiian fusion dish. Typically, such restaurants offer:
- Customizable Poke Bowls: Customers usually select a base (rice, greens), protein (raw fish, cooked chicken/tofu), various toppings (vegetables, fruits, nuts), and sauces to create their personalized bowl.
- Pre-Set Signature Bowls: Often, in addition to custom options, there are signature bowls designed by the restaurant.
- Other Asian-Inspired Dishes: Some poke establishments also offer related items like teriyaki bowls, sushi burritos, or other casual Asian fusion options. One review specifically mentioned ordering a "chicken teriyaki bowl."
- Takeout & Delivery: Given the nature of poke bowl establishments, it is highly likely that they offer takeout services for on-the-go meals and may also partner with third-party delivery services, though this is not explicitly confirmed by the negative reviews.
However, it is paramount to note that while these are typical services for a poke bowl concept, the provided customer reviews raise severe issues regarding the quality and safety of these offerings, including allegations of "rotten" and "warm" fish, and discovery of a "dead bug" in a meal. These accounts directly contradict the expected standards for fresh food service.
Given the overwhelmingly negative nature of the provided customer reviews, it is not possible to highlight positive "features" or "highlights" in the traditional promotional sense. Instead, we must address the significant concerns raised by patrons, which effectively become the "features" of their reported experience:
- Reported Food Safety Issues:
- Rotten and Warm Fish: A customer reported receiving a poke bowl with fish that was "full on rotten" and "warm," indicating severe issues with temperature control and freshness.
- Discovery of a Dead Bug: Another review explicitly states finding a "dead bug" halfway through a chicken teriyaki bowl, pointing to critical sanitation failures.
- Lack of Customer Service and Resolution:
- Refusal of Refund: Despite a customer politely explaining the issue with rotten fish and requesting a refund, the owner reportedly refused the refund, demonstrating a significant "lacking customer care and satisfaction."
- Offering Mochi Instead of Resolution: The owner's offer of "mochi instead" of a refund for a severe food safety issue further highlights a disregard for customer well-being and appropriate problem resolution.
- Reported Health Code Concerns:
- Delinquent Food Serving Permit: A customer noted an "almost 6 month delinquent food serving permit" while waiting, indicating potential non-compliance with health regulations.
- Unclean Environment: The location was described as "not looking or smelling clean," reinforcing concerns about overall hygiene.
- Public Complaints Filed: Customers have escalated their experiences by leaving reviews on platforms like Yelp, and more critically, filing complaints with the health department and the Better Business Bureau (BBB), underscoring the severity and factual basis of these concerns.
Given the critical nature of the customer feedback regarding food safety and customer service, it would be inappropriate and misleading to discuss "promotions or special offers" as a positive aspect of Poke Bowl at this time. The immediate and paramount concern for any food establishment should be the health and safety of its patrons and adherence to regulatory standards. Any offers, if they exist, would be secondary to addressing the fundamental issues raised in the provided reviews.
Customers are advised to prioritize establishments that consistently demonstrate high standards of food safety, hygiene, and customer care, which are currently reported as significant deficiencies at this particular Poke Bowl location. Therefore, we do not have information to present on any appealing promotions from this establishment.
For direct contact regarding Poke Bowl, particularly concerning any past orders or potential issues, the provided information is:
- Address: 2828 Guadalupe St #100, Austin, TX 78705, USA
- Phone: (512) 887-1887
It is important for customers who experience any issues to retain evidence (photos, receipts) and contact the relevant health authorities, as some reviewers have indicated they have already done, to ensure proper investigation and enforcement of food safety regulations.
For residents of Austin, Texas, who value fresh, safe, and enjoyable dining experiences, the information available about Poke Bowl on Guadalupe Street indicates a need for extreme caution. Based on recent and severe customer reviews, this establishment has faced significant allegations regarding rotten food, unsanitary conditions, and a fundamental lack of customer care and accountability. Reports of warm and spoiled fish, the discovery of a dead bug in a meal, refusal of refunds for contaminated food, and concerns about delinquent health permits are all critical indicators that directly challenge its suitability as a reliable dining option.
While the concept of customizable poke bowls generally appeals to a health-conscious and busy local demographic, the foundational principles of food safety and customer satisfaction appear to be severely compromised at this specific location, according to multiple firsthand accounts. Texans deserve and expect food establishments to adhere to the highest standards of hygiene and to prioritize the well-being of their customers. The actions reported, such as refusing a refund for spoiled food and offering an alternative dessert instead, suggest a concerning disregard for customer concerns and basic ethical practices.
Therefore, for the safety and satisfaction of local users, it is strongly advised to approach Poke Bowl with considerable reservation and to carefully consider the serious issues reported by other patrons. Transparency regarding such concerns is vital for consumer protection within our community, and ensuring that dining choices uphold fundamental standards of quality and safety remains paramount.

Poke Bowl Reviews
Popped into this location to grab lunch on my way out of town only to get a mouthful in and realize the fish is full on rotten! And warm. I'm typically a total poke lover. They JUST opened. No excuse for this. I went back in and respectfully+politely explained what happened and requested a refund for the bowl. Just to be told by the owner over the phone that he refuses a refund. I will be contacting the health department as well due to an almost 6 month delinquent food serving permit (noted while I waited for the employee to contact the owner) and the location not looking or smelling clean. Holy moly this was the most disgusting experience and an establishment fully lacking customer care and satisfaction. They wanted to offer mochi insteadUpdate: I have left this review on yelp as well, filed with the health department, and additionally filed a complaint with the BBB.
December 29 · laufey armentaI ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl to go today. Halfway through my bowl, I find this dead bug. Absolutely disgusting
March 14 · Audrey ClarkeAs far as poke bowls go, completely average. For $14 for a medium bowl, I’d argue the portions are on the smaller side. Fine for being close to campus, but if you have access to the greater Austin area then this wouldn’t be the spot to go to.
April 13 · CameronThe Thai green tea here is delicious, not too sweet. I recommend everyone to buy this here.
April 10 · Trân Nguyễn KimOut of all the Poke restaurants I’ve been to this is by far my favorite one. Service is always smooth and quick and the portions and price are the best in town hands down. 100% recommend this spot to everyone. Try the squid 👌👍
