Ramen Tatsu-Ya Reviews
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. Definitely my favorite soup spot. I have been here many times and my last visit was just last month (April 2025).I promised them on my last visit that this would be my 1st review on my page. And I am living up to that promise. I have had both pork and chicken ramen bowls and everything has been phenomenal. They will help you order if you are new to eating ramen. The decor is top notch. The soup is warm & eye-popping & delicious. I am very happy to give this restaurant 2 thumbs way up.Another big bonus - it is right next to one of the best local music venues in Austin, the Saxon Pub. So plan an evening out - dinner and live music. You can thank me later :)
May 12, 2025 · Daniel MillerThis place never disappoints! The quality and portions of ramen are unbeatable at the price they are at! My personal favorite is the OG bowl. The atmosphere transports you to a casual ramen bar in Japan. The service is so fast and everything I’ve tried on the menu is great. And the price is very reasonable. If you want something that is delicious but still feels in budget this is the place for you!
May 13, 2025 · Sage PuryearAt risk of exposing our dietary habits we will not disclose the ridiculous amount of ramen that we eat, but we will disclose the fact that Ramen Tatsuya is our go to spot. While there are a few locations at this point, the South Lamar locations stands leagues above the other locations we have been to. The ordering was seamless and quick and despite how packed it was we were seated almost immediately. One thing we will say about this location is that the staff is on their absolute A game and the setting is much more intimate than others. We were seated across from the kitchen and watched as the cooks flew around and runners, well, ran. The whole operation was a logistical dream that would make an Amazon exec blush. One thing that could be better is the line management outside as there is very little room in the front of the restaurant which left people packing in to avoid the cold weather outside. Not something the restaurant can necessarily control but it is something that we noticed.Onto the food, we got two OGs, one with a spice bomb, and a Curry Nu Skool. These were by far the best bowls we’ve had across the different locations. Everything was perfect from the noodles to egg to broth. The Tonkotsu broth of the OG is just perfectly salty and has a deep umami flavor from the pork bone. The Curry Nu Skool tastes complex with hearty flavors in sync. The chasu was cooked perfectly, the fat being delicious and not too thick and the lean part being flavorful but moist. We really cannot give enough praise to the dishes (even though we basically just did).We like to hold 5 stars close to our chest and really like to objectively look at experiences without the bias of our endless hunger. Unfortunately for us (but not for them), Ramen Tatsuya South Lamar has stolen all 5 stars. With unreal food, an intimate atmosphere, and service that just pulled it all together there is not a single negative thing we can say about our experience here. We would recommend that if you want ramen, or this chain more specifically, drive the extra 1, 2, 5 miles if need be and come to this location.
Mar 09, 2025 · Amber LeeDamn! The food is damn delicious. The robust flavors in the broth are top notch and definitely worth trying if you like ramen. The noodles are thin but very nice and have great texture. This place is very cozy and has awesome friendly people who work here. I also love the section that single people who want to try can sit at without worrying about being in others way. I can't wait to try again and if ever you're in town or driving by and you're in the mood for ramen please try!
Nov 10, 2024 · Lawrence HernandezRamen Tatsu-Ya is widely known as the best ramen spot in Austin, with multiple locations across the city. Our family loves soups, ramen included, so we decided to give it a try.One thing that stands out immediately—and actually speeds up the whole process—is that you place your order at the entrance. There’s a menu of 10 ramen options, including two vegetarian choices. If you’re visiting for the first time, it’s a good idea to check the menu online beforehand so you don’t feel rushed at the counter. They also allow you to customize your ramen, which is a nice touch. The service is fast, but mainly because of the ordering system at the entrance. Once you’re seated, food arrives quickly, and the whole system works efficiently, even when the place is packed. There’s usually a line outside, but it moves steadily. Inside, there’s plenty of seating, including communal tables for larger groups. They also handle a high volume of takeout orders, with a dedicated window for pickup. The atmosphere is vibrant but not too loud, with music playing but still allowing for conversation. The interior is modern, clean, and well-organized, designed to handle heavy traffic while keeping things comfortable. As for the ramen itself, opinions in our group were mixed. I had one of the vegetarian options, and while it was good, it wasn’t the best ramen I’ve had. However, others in our group ordered the classic tonkotsu-based ramen, and the first option on the menu was the favorite. The chicken-based ramen (#6) was also a standout. Since we had five people in our group and tried five different bowls, we got a good sense of the variety they offer.Overall, Ramen Tatsu-Ya lives up to its reputation as one of the top ramen spots in Austin. If you love ramen and don’t mind a streamlined, high-traffic experience, it’s absolutely worth checking out. Just be ready to order at the door and wait in line—but the quality and efficiency make it a great dining experience.
