Red Rock-Sawtelle/W-LA is conveniently located at 11301 W Olympic Blvd ste 210 floor 2nd, Los Angeles, CA 90064, USA. Nestled in the dynamic West Los Angeles area, specifically near the popular Sawtelle Japantown district, it's an ideal spot for those living in or commuting through the area. However, it's worth noting that the restaurant can be a bit of a hidden gem!
From the street, you might find it nearly impossible to spot clear signage. This is because Red Rock-Sawtelle/W-LA is located on the second floor of a multi-story building right on the corner of the block. Don't be deterred by the lack of prominent street-level signs; the experience awaiting you upstairs is well worth the slight search. To access the restaurant, you'll need to locate the elevator or stairs for the building and head up to the second floor. It's a bit of an urban treasure hunt, but once you're there, you'll appreciate the discreet, elevated dining experience.
The West Olympic Boulevard location offers easy access from various parts of West LA, including Santa Monica, Century City, and Beverly Hills. Public transportation options are available nearby, and ample parking structures are typically found in the surrounding area, though it's always a good idea to check for specific parking availability, especially during peak dining hours. Its placement within a bustling commercial area makes it a great stop for lunch during a workday or an evening meal after exploring the surrounding shops and attractions.

Dine-In Service: The restaurant provides a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for in-person dining. While it can fill up quickly, especially on weekends, they aim to accommodate guests efficiently.
Specialized Japanese Beef Bowls (Beef Dons): Their core offering includes a variety of beef rice bowls. This is their signature dish, featuring different cuts and preparations of beef served over rice, often with unique sauces and toppings.
Japanese Omurice: Another key item on their menu is Omurice, a popular Japanese dish consisting of an omelet made with fried rice and usually topped with ketchup. Red Rock puts its own spin on this classic.
Alcoholic Beverages: The restaurant offers a selection of Japanese alcohols, including various special and limited wines, and even champagne. These are carefully curated to complement their beef dishes.
Customer Service: While they were in a soft opening phase during some customer reviews, the general service is noted as attentive, with staff available for requests like water refills and bringing the check.
Red Rock-Sawtelle/W-LA boasts several distinctive features that make it a notable dining destination in West Los Angeles:
Signature Sliced Beef Don: This is arguably their most famous dish. The sliced beef is a unique preparation, often described as similar to sliced roast beef. While one review mentioned it can be salty, it's a popular choice, and variations like the "cut bowl" (grilled beef) are also highly recommended for their distinct flavors and seasoning.
Kobe Beef Options: For those seeking a premium experience, Red Rock-Sawtelle/W-LA offers Kobe beef variations of their dons. Customers have noted a significant difference in texture and taste, making the additional cost for Kobe beef a worthwhile upgrade for many.
Variety of Beef Don Sizes and Cuts: They cater to different appetites and preferences, with options ranging from regular (5oz) to large portions for their American sliced beef don, and other cuts like rib-eye. This ensures there's a beef don for every preference.
Mid-Priced Dining: Red Rock is positioned as a mid-priced restaurant, offering a quality dining experience without "bursting a budget," according to customer feedback. This makes it an accessible option for regular visits.
Unique Menu Focus: Unlike many Japanese restaurants that emphasize sushi, Red Rock-Sawtelle/W-LA specializes in beef dons and omurice, providing a distinct culinary niche. This focus allows them to perfect these particular dishes, offering a specialized and authentic experience.
Extensive Drink Menu: Beyond the food, the restaurant also features an impressive selection of Japanese wines and other alcoholic beverages, ranging from $35 to $70 for a bottle. This adds to the overall dining experience, allowing for perfect pairings with their rich beef dishes.
Based on the provided information, Red Rock-Sawtelle/W-LA appears to have a dynamic menu that includes "many different kinds of special, if not limited wines and other Japanese alcohols." While specific ongoing promotions for food items aren't detailed, this suggests that the restaurant frequently updates its beverage offerings, providing new and interesting choices for returning customers.
It's common for restaurants to introduce seasonal specials or limited-time menu items, especially with unique ingredients like Kobe beef or specific cuts of meat. To stay informed about any current promotions, new menu additions, or special offers on their wines and other drinks, it's highly recommended to:
Visit their location: The most direct way to inquire about specials would be to ask the staff during your visit.
Check their in-house menu: As noted in reviews, the menu itself often highlights additional items like the half-boiled egg or wasabi as add-ons, indicating that the menu itself might serve as the primary source for current offerings and pricing.
Given their mid-priced positioning and focus on quality ingredients like Kobe beef, any special offers are likely to enhance the value of their already appealing menu. For the most up-to-date information on any current promotions, a direct inquiry or an in-person visit is the best approach.

Red Rock-Sawtelle/W-LA Reviews
Nearly impossible to find - no clear signage visible from the street. Basically, 2nd floor of multi-story building on the corner. Find the elevator and stairs, head up to 2nd floor.Tried the sliced and cut bowls. Sliced is much like sliced roast beef for sandwiches. Very salty. With the egg and cream, not inspiring. Needs a horseradish kick or sour cream. You will get bored of it halfway through, and when you've finished it, feels like you ate a salt block.Cut bowl is like grilled beef, tasty, and the better choice of the two. Pepper and other spices, not one flavor like the salty sliced. Definitely order this.Salad is forgettable, ends with a very sour vinegar note. Plain vegetables, nothing better than Souplantation. Soup is merely a few, small fatty pieces of beef floating in with a few slices of vegetables or something at the bottom. Not at the level of the soup you get at Gyutan by far. Forgettable after a few sips.Soft opening, but had a decent amount of guests. Service was fine although you may need to call the waiter over for the check and water refill.Beef-wise, Gyutan and Lawry's Carvery at the same price points are consistently more delicious.
Dec 05, 2018 · David ChienHad dinner for four on a Saturday evening, did not need to queue but restaurant filled up fast. Mid-priced restaurant. They do mainly beef rice bowls ( beef dons) and Japanese omurice, but their signature is definitely their sliced beef don. They are many options, ranging from $15 for their regular (5oz) american sliced beef don or $18 for their large. There are other options of sliced beef steaks like the rib-eye etc. as well as Kobe Beef ( additional $5).Would highly recommend the Kobe beef one as I could taste the difference in the texture and taste of the Kobe beef bowl my friend ordered as compared to mine. The half-boiled egg shown in the pictures of the menu is an additional item that costs $1.50. Wasabi costs an additional $1.50 as well which i found rather ridiculous.I also noticed that their menu had many different kinds of special, if not limited wines and other Japanese alcohols, ranging from $35 for a bottle of wine to $70 for a bottle of champagne.Overall, i find it an amazing meal and would not hesitate to return without bursting a budget.
Mar 01, 2020 · HL CIt's hidden away in the corner above a boba shop and a bar, but Red Rock is a delicious dinner spot with some relaxing ambience. Not the lightest on the wallet (expect to pay ~$20 minimum) but well worth it for taste and quality. The place also isn't the largest, and can got maybe 40-50 people at capacity, so going during a dinner rush can result in a bit of a wait.Pictured: sliced beef don with added egg, appetizer salad & soup included.
Dec 20, 2019 · Tom SearfossThe meat was excellent but that white sauce tasted an awful lot like ranch and it overpowered everything which was a shame. My primary reason for the 1 star however is because the male manager made me and my group of friends feel utterly and completely unwelcome our entire visit. We had 20 people and were unable to make a reservation because they don't take them, so we broke ourselves up accordingly to be seated and this guy gave us snide remarks about not being ready to order despite having just been seated and given menus. He then proceeds to chide his wait staff about letting us in because there was now a group of people outside waiting, all the while making it very obvious that he was going out of his way to make it as difficult as possible for us to be seated (he left seats open here and there in order to split us up awkwardly while just giving us judgement for inconveniencing him).Honestly: go to any of the other restaurants on Sawtelle. they will appreciate your patronage and value your time and money far more than this place.
Jul 15, 2018 · Daniel LeeHad the ribeye sando and the ribeye bowl! Both amazing in taste and quality! Next time I'll have Kobe beef!
