Sakura Japanese Cuisine is located at 1521 Spring Garden St, Philadelphia, PA 19130, USA. This address places it in the Spring Garden neighborhood of Philadelphia, an area known for its mix of residential buildings, commercial establishments, and proximity to cultural institutions. For residents across Pennsylvania, particularly those in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, the location offers a degree of accessibility.
Spring Garden Street is a significant thoroughfare, making the restaurant reachable by car. While street parking in urban environments like Philadelphia can sometimes be challenging, metered parking is typically available in the vicinity. For those utilizing public transportation, the area is well-served by SEPTA bus routes that run along Spring Garden Street and nearby avenues, providing connections to various parts of the city. However, it's important to note a specific accessibility concern mentioned in a review: the location is "not ADA accessible," which may be a consideration for individuals with mobility challenges. Despite this, its position in a residential and commercial corridor often makes it a convenient stop for locals looking for a meal in the area.
Sakura Japanese Cuisine offers several services to cater to its customers' dining preferences:
Delivery Service: A significant portion of Sakura's business appears to be focused on delivery. Customers have mentioned "ordering delivery from this restaurant every other week," indicating its role as a regular choice for at-home dining. This convenience makes it a practical option for busy individuals or those who prefer to eat in.
Takeout Options: Beyond delivery, customers can also place orders for takeout, allowing them to pick up their meals directly from the restaurant. This is ideal for those living or working nearby who want a quick meal.
Sushi and Sashimi: Sakura offers a variety of sushi and sashimi options. A notable item mentioned is the "lunch chirashi bowl," which, for $16.20 (tax included), provides "2 pieces of 6 different varieties," a seemingly good value compared to other spots that "only offer 3-4 varieties for lunch specials." This indicates a potentially diverse selection of fish for their bowls and rolls.
Japanese Cuisine Menu: While sushi is a focus, the name "Sakura Japanese Cuisine" suggests a broader menu that likely includes other Japanese staples. Typically, this would encompass items like various maki rolls, nigiri, perhaps some appetizers such as edamame or gyoza, and potentially some cooked dishes like teriyaki or tempura, though specific details beyond sushi are not provided in the reviews.
Communication Regarding Order Preparation: The staff communicates with customers about order preparation times. One review mentioned that "they communicated they might need a few extra minutes to prepare my order which is totally fine! Not a huge deal and I didn’t mind waiting." This proactive communication can be helpful for managing expectations, especially during busy periods.
Sakura Japanese Cuisine has certain features that have been noted by its patrons:
Value for Lunch Specials: The "lunch chirashi bowl for $16.20 tax incl." providing "2 pieces of 6 different varieties" is highlighted as a potentially good deal, offering more variety than many competitors' lunch specials. This could be a significant draw for budget-conscious diners seeking diverse options.
Consistency (Historically): One long-term customer noted that while not always the "best quality or the best sushi," it "used to be consistent" in its offerings, suggesting reliability in its previous operations.
Sweet and Helpful Staff: The "Staff are exceptionally sweet and helpful!" according to one reviewer. Positive interactions with staff can significantly enhance the customer experience, making the process of ordering and picking up more pleasant.
Convenient Location: As mentioned in the location block, its Spring Garden Street address in Philadelphia is generally convenient for those in the area, contributing to its appeal as a "neighborhood spot."

Sakura Japanese Cuisine Reviews
I was ordering delivery from this restaurant every other week. Not necessarily the best quality or the best sushi I've tried, but it used to be consistent and have good enough offers for me to make it a meal every now and then. After a few months of not ordering, I decided to put in an order today, and I will let the pictures speak for itself. Highly disappointed on the food I received.
Apr 16, 2025 · J MoralesStaff are exceptionally sweet and helpful! Location is convenient but not ada accessible. My usual neighborhood spot is closed on Mondays so I decided to try Sakura. I regret to say I will not return. I ordered very early and they communicated they might need a few extra minutes to prepare my order which is totally fine! Not a huge deal and I didn’t mind waiting.I ordered the lunch chirashi bowl for $16.20 tax incl. which seemingly is not a bad deal. I got 2 pieces of 6 different varieties! Most spots only offer 3-4 varieties for lunch specials.Unfortunately, there was a foreign hair inside the container. I was going to excuse this, but upon trying the sushi there were ice crystals inside most of the fish to show that it was stored at a VERY cold, freezing temperature. This was very disappointing as the texture of the fish, frozen or thawed, was bad.
Dec 02, 2024 · Ping RegisSushi is amazing, fresh and so good!!! Will definitely be back!
May 28, 2025 · Laura JimenezI ordered take out was packaged well and everything was the correct temperature. Unfortunately my salad was bad, the dressing container was bloated and had gone bad, tasted sour and bubbly. The sushi didn’t taste fresh and also had an off taste. I wouldn’t recommend getting take out from here maybe quality is different if you eat in.
Feb 11, 2025 · Mel SkyOof. The sushi from this restaurant is probably on the level of what you might expect from a rural gas station. I work at a hospital and this place makes the sushi from the hospital cafeteria look like Royal Izakaya.
