For residents of Douglasville, Georgia, Sakura Sushi & Grill has been a familiar name in the local Japanese dining scene for over a decade. Historically, it has been a go-to for sushi and other Japanese favorites. However, like many establishments, it appears to have undergone changes, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic, which have led to a mixed bag of experiences for local patrons. While some still appreciate its flavors, recent customer feedback suggests a shift in its service model and overall consistency. This article aims to provide a factual overview for Georgia locals considering Sakura Sushi & Grill for their next meal, reflecting both its potential and the concerns raised by recent diners.
Sakura Sushi & Grill is conveniently located at 4900 Stewart Mill Rd Suite J, Douglasville, GA 30135, USA. This address places it in an accessible part of Douglasville, making it relatively easy for residents across the city and surrounding areas in Georgia to reach. Situated within a commercial plaza, there's typically ample parking available, which helps with the convenience factor for both pickup orders and any potential dine-in experiences (though current dine-in availability is a noted concern, as discussed below). Its location serves the Douglasville community, offering a local option for Japanese cuisine.
Sakura Sushi & Grill offers a range of Japanese dishes, primarily focusing on sushi and hibachi, with services tailored mostly for takeout and delivery, given recent changes:
Extensive Sushi and Sashimi Menu: Sakura Sushi & Grill provides a broad selection of sushi and sashimi. This includes classic Maki Sushi such as California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Eel Roll, Salmon Roll, and many more. They also feature an array of "House Special Rolls" with creative combinations like the Sakura Roll, Tiger Roll, Hawaiian Roll, Dragon Roll, Volcano Roll, and Godzilla Roll, among others. Nigiri and Sashimi a la carte options are also available.
Hibachi Grill Entrees: For those who prefer cooked Japanese dishes, Sakura Sushi & Grill offers various hibachi options, including popular choices like Chicken, Steak, Shrimp, Scallop, and Filet Mignon, as well as combinations. These typically come with sides like house soup, house salad, and a choice of rice.
Appetizers and Soups: A selection of appetizers is available to start your meal, such as Edamame, Gyoza dumplings, Spring Rolls, Tempura Appetizers, Fried Calamari, and Tuna Tataki. They also offer classic soups like Miso Soup and House Soup.
Noodle and Rice Dishes: Beyond hibachi, their menu includes Udon noodle soups and Yakisoba (stir-fried Japanese noodles) with various protein options. They also offer different types of fried rice, including their signature Sakura Fried Rice.
Takeout and Delivery Focus: A significant shift noted by long-time customers is the apparent discontinuation of dine-in service. The restaurant now seems to primarily operate as a takeout and delivery-focused establishment. Orders can be placed directly or through third-party delivery services like Uber Eats, DoorDash, Postmates, and Beyond Menu.
Sakura Sushi & Grill in Douglasville, GA, presents a mixed bag of features and experiences, as reflected in recent customer feedback:
Historically Good Sushi and Soup: Long-time patrons recall a period where the sushi was "decent" and the house soup was "amazing," suggesting a history of quality food. Some recent reviews still mention decent sushi when accuracy is maintained.
Wide Variety of Sushi Rolls: The menu offers an extensive selection of classic and specialty sushi rolls, providing numerous choices for sushi enthusiasts in Douglasville.
Convenient for Takeout/Delivery: For those specifically seeking Japanese food for consumption at home, the restaurant's primary focus on takeout and delivery offers a convenient option within Douglasville.
However, it is crucial to address the significant and recurring concerns highlighted in recent customer reviews:
No Dine-In Service: A major change post-COVID-19 appears to be the discontinuation of dine-in service, which has disappointed loyal customers who previously enjoyed the in-restaurant experience. This limits the dining format available to patrons.
Inconsistent Food Quality and Accuracy: Recent orders have shown significant issues, including:
- Incorrect preparation (e.g., "no eel or eel sauce on the eel roll," "dragon roll was like a Cali roll with shrimp" instead of its described ingredients).
- Inconsistent texture and toppings (e.g., "soggy mess with the teriyaki" on a Hawaiian roll, panko breadcrumbs instead of tempura flakes).
- Specific dishes being "extremely greasy" to the point of food being "fully saturated in oil."
Reduced Portion Sizes for the Price: Customers feel they "don't get enough for what you pay," citing examples like very small soup containers for the price. This suggests a perceived decline in value.
Poor Customer Service/Managerial Response: A significant point of frustration for patrons is the unhelpful managerial response to order issues, with managers reportedly redirecting customers to third-party delivery services even when the error originated with the restaurant. This lack of accountability and willingness to "make it right" is a major deterrent.
Missing Items and Utensils in Orders: Reviews indicate missing essentials like chopsticks, napkins, and sufficient soy sauce packs in takeout orders, diminishing the overall convenience and quality of the at-home dining experience.
Cleanliness and Packaging Issues: Mentions of "plastic in my roll" and food being "just thrown in the bag" with sauces "spilled all out" point to significant issues with food handling, hygiene, and packaging for delivery/takeout.
Given the strong focus on takeout and online ordering, Sakura Sushi & Grill may participate in various promotions offered through third-party delivery platforms or might have internal specials. For example, online menus sometimes highlight popular items or bundle deals. However, specific, ongoing promotions are not widely advertised in public reviews, which tend to focus on individual order experiences. For residents of Douglasville, Georgia, interested in discovering any current promotions or special offers, the best approach would be to:
- Check Third-Party Delivery Apps: Platforms like Uber Eats, DoorDash, Postmates, and Beyond Menu often feature restaurant-specific deals, discounts, or free delivery offers.
- Visit Their Website: If an official website is maintained, it might list current specials or a rewards program (though current info is limited).
- Contact Directly: Calling Sakura Sushi & Grill at (678) 391-1906 could provide information on any in-house specials for pickup orders.
Customers should be aware that pricing on third-party apps can sometimes differ from direct restaurant pricing.

Its long-standing presence in the community suggests that it has served many patrons over the years. The extensive menu offers a wide variety of sushi rolls and cooked dishes, which can appeal to diverse preferences within a household or group. If you're specifically looking for a very local option for a quick sushi or hibachi fix without wanting to dine out, Sakura Sushi & Grill provides that convenience via online ordering and pickup.
However, based on recent and consistent customer feedback, it is important for locals to approach ordering from Sakura Sushi & Grill with caution. Significant concerns regarding declining food quality, inconsistent order accuracy (e.g., missing ingredients or incorrect preparations), perceived reduced value for money, and, notably, unhelpful customer service from management, have been repeatedly voiced. The discontinuation of dine-in service is also a factor for those who prefer the restaurant experience. While there's a history of being a loved local spot, current reviews suggest that locals might find more consistent quality and better overall value, including customer service, at other Japanese restaurants in the broader Georgia area, especially if a full dining experience is desired.

Sakura sushi & grill Reviews
So I have lived in douglasville for over 10 years. One of the only sushi places I order from is sakura. Well since covid I think they have gone downhill. They don't do dine in anymore which is what we usually do. We come here less and less because of this. This past order I got was a joke. I almost always get the soup and it's amazing and in a large container. Well today I ordered $50 worth of sushi and 2 soups. Look at the size of these soups they gave me!! It cost $6 for some broth. I told the manager that I have never seen such a small amount. she said I had to take it up with the online service I ordered through. Well I thought I was ordering from the restaurant so that was annoying. I had to call someone else to fix my order while I was in the restaurant and they clearly messed up not the 3rd party taking my money. The manager never offered to make it right just kept saying I had to deal with some other company. The sushi is actually decent but you don't get enough for what you pay. There are way more places that are just as good and charge less or give you more. I really didn't want to do a bad review because I loved this place but either they have new management or just being cheap after covid. Either way it's just not that great anymore 馃槙 You can go to so many other hibachi and sushi places that actually have dine in and customer service. I gave this place another chance today and it was worse than the last time I ordered. I got the Cali roll eel roll and dragon roll. The Cali roll was fine but there was no eel or eel sauce on the eel roll. The dragon roll was like a Cali roll with shrimp. It was just pathetic and this is the final time I will ever order from here.
Jan 17, 2025 路 Meredith KaufmanI ordered delivery Tuesday night and was pretty disappointed because I was treating myself and taking the night off from cooking. The Hawaiian roll was ok but it was not topped with tempura flakes but instead with Panko breadcrumbs which weren鈥檛 crunchy at all. More of a soggy mess with the teriyaki on it. The volcano roll was worst of the two. It was just the crab mix and non of the listed crab, scallop and shrimp it was supposed to be in the mix. Also it was extremely greasy to the point of me scraping the crab mix off the top the sushi roll beneath was fully saturated in oil. Yuck. And I picked sushi over greasy pizza that night. Not what I expected馃檨 Not to mention there was plastic in my roll ,which I understand they use serran when they wrap snd cut the rolls, but still. No chopsticks, napkins, and only two soy packs which wouldn鈥檛 have been enough had I actually eaten the sushi.
Nov 05, 2021 路 G HoodSad. $16 for this lunch. Drowned in salty soy sauce, definitely didn鈥檛 taste like teriyaki. The chicken was over cooked and not seasoned at all. The vegetables and rice tasted cold as if it was out on a buffet line, very stale dry taste. Also, the customer service was unpleasant. Apparently a younger guy is taking orders yet when I walked in, he was on his phone and never greeted me nor offered a menu. I had to get his attention 3 times to find a menu and place my order.DO NOT spend your hard earned money here.
Jul 01, 2022 路 Mel RellSoup and Salad not pictured but even with that qualifier does this look like over 50 dollars worth of food? Poor quality, chicken was overcooked,..shrimp and salad were delicious but child sized portions left us disappointed.
Jul 29, 2021 路 Gary StevensPictured is a $14 roll. It鈥檚 a joke right?? I supposedly ordered the Dynamite roll. However it was mostly rice and a few sad small pieces of fish and a BUNCH of crunchy bits. No other ingredients. It was dry and gross. I threw half of it out. The calamari I ordered was fake. Not real calamari. It was rubbery perfect circles which everyone knows is not true calamari. Thankful Grubhub gave me a partial refund. This was a terrible mistake.
