Sasabune Express Introduce
New Yorkers are always on the go, and when it comes to dining, finding a spot that combines quality, convenience, and genuine flavor is key. For sushi lovers in Midtown East, Sasabune Express offers a compelling option that stands out for its commitment to fresh ingredients and a focused menu designed to deliver an authentic Japanese experience. This isn't your average sushi joint; it's a place where the emphasis is firmly on the fish, prepared with care and precision.
Sasabune Express is a streamlined version of the renowned Sasabune brand, known for its dedication to traditional sushi techniques. The "Express" concept means you get the quality associated with a high-end sushi establishment, but in a more accessible and efficient setting. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite during a busy workday or seeking a delicious and reliable option for dinner, this spot aims to deliver. Their philosophy, often summarized by the phrase "No spicy tuna roll. No California roll. Trust me," speaks volumes about their commitment to classic, unadulterated sushi. They focus on letting the natural flavors of the fish shine, often served on warm, perfectly seasoned rice.
While the space itself is cozy and designed for efficiency, the culinary experience remains a priority. Many patrons rave about the freshness of the fish and the expert preparation, making it a local favorite for those who appreciate true sushi artistry without the fuss of a formal dining experience. It's a testament to their belief that exceptional sushi doesn't always need an elaborate setting; sometimes, it just needs the finest ingredients and skilled hands.
Sasabune Express is conveniently located at 322 E 59th St #2, New York, NY 10022, USA. This Midtown East address places it within easy reach for residents and professionals working in the area. Its proximity to major thoroughfares and public transportation hubs makes it a practical choice for a quick lunch pickup or a relaxed evening meal.
For those traveling by subway, the nearest stations provide easy access to the neighborhood. The venue itself, while small, offers a few tall bar tables and a limited number of dining tables, making it suitable for a casual dine-in experience if you're looking for a quick meal. However, given its compact size, many New Yorkers opt for take-out or delivery, which are readily available through popular platforms. This flexibility ensures that you can enjoy Sasabune Express's offerings whether you're dining in or at home. The location in a bustling part of the city means it's often a go-to for those seeking high-quality Japanese cuisine without venturing too far.
- Dine-in: While the space is compact, Sasabune Express provides a few tall bar tables and a 2-person dining table for those who wish to enjoy their meal on-site. It's ideal for a solo meal or a very intimate, quick dining experience.

- Lunch Specials: They offer attractive lunch menus, often including a combination of miso soup, salad, a roll, and a choice of rice bowl with fresh fish. These specials provide an excellent value for a high-quality midday meal.
- Omakase Options: While Sasabune Express is a more casual offshoot, it maintains a focus on chef-selected items. Customers can explore various "Trust Me" or "Chef's Choice" options that showcase the freshest catches and skilled preparation.

- Exceptional Freshness: A consistent highlight in customer reviews is the outstanding freshness of the fish. Sasabune Express is known for sourcing high-quality seafood, ensuring each piece of sushi and sashimi is at its peak.

- Focused, Authentic Menu: True to the Sasabune philosophy, the menu avoids common Americanized sushi rolls, instead emphasizing classic nigiri and sashimi. This focus on traditional preparation appeals to sushi purists.
- Value-Oriented Lunch Deals: Their lunch menu, often around the $23-$25 mark, is repeatedly cited by customers as a great deal, providing a substantial and high-quality meal at a competitive price point for New York City.
- Quality Sashimi and Rice Bowls: Patrons frequently praise the buttery and fresh sashimi, as well as the delicious rice bowls topped with fresh fish and dried seaweed.
- Efficient Service: Given its "Express" model, the service is often noted for being prompt and attentive, especially during less busy periods, making it a convenient choice for those on a tight schedule.
- Intimate Atmosphere: While small, the venue offers a cozy and intimate setting, suitable for a quiet meal where the focus is solely on the food.
Sasabune Express frequently offers Lunch Specials that are a consistent draw for customers seeking a high-quality meal at a competitive price. Reviews often highlight their $23 or $25 fixed lunch menus, which typically include a miso soup, salad, a roll (sometimes avocado or cucumber), and a tuna or salmon rice bowl. These specials are an excellent way to experience the quality of their ingredients without committing to a larger order.
Beyond the daily lunch specials, specific promotions might be available through their delivery partners (Grubhub, Postmates, Uber Eats), which occasionally offer discounts or free delivery for members. While direct, ongoing promotions from the restaurant itself aren't extensively advertised publicly beyond their set menus, checking their online delivery profiles is always a good idea for potential savings. They prioritize consistent quality and value through their regular offerings rather than fleeting discounts.

Sasabune Express Reviews
The venue has some tall bar tables and 1 2-person dining table. We dined in during lunch and tried their fixed lunch menu for $25. Included in the meal is a miso soup, salad, avocado or cucumber roll, and a tuna or salmon rice bowl. The salmon was fresh and the bowl had a nice sweet warm rice topped with some dried seaweed, which was delicious. Unfortunately, I did not think the price was worth the food since the rolls did not include any fish and did not have anything to it! We were the only patrons so the service was fine. Would not recommend the establishment for any dates since it feels super small space.
Nov 09, 2022 · Steph WAmazing! Lunch menu for 23$ is a great deal. Starts with a salad, soup and then follows a sashimi with rice plate. Also tried sashimi tasting it was delicious. The fish is super fresh and buttery. The rice is served hot, not my personal preference but the cooking point of it is just perfect as everything. Will come aging soon.
May 22, 2022 · Joel ImventarzaSo at first when I walked in I wasn’t expecting such GREAT food! The miso soup was delicious and the lunch special was great! Definitely recommend!
May 19, 2025 · Iris AnovaFound!I am always disappointed when I find a great spot that has been open nearby for a while that I didn’t know about...this is one of those! It apparently has been open for lunch for 6 years, sitting across from the entrance to the Queensboro Bridge. They are serving an edited version of the longer Omikase from the other location, as well as other a la carte options. The fish was excellent, the preparation simple, and overall may have been my favorite lunch sushi place midtown if you don’t mind walk East of 2nd Avenue for this no-frills experience. For more great reviews of the New & Authentic visit TheLoupe!
Dec 20, 2018 · Bryan VeronaGood sushi spot I just discovered in the neighborhood. Options are all fairly traditional but the fish is very fresh and great quality. Perhaps a little too much rice on the rolls but still very good. Definitely check out the specials board - a crab stuffed squid we had was a highlight!
