Shinya Shokudō Introduce
In the vibrant culinary landscape of Redmond, Washington, Shinya Shokudō stands as a distinctive Japanese bar and grill, offering local users an authentic Izakaya experience. Located at 2020 148th Ave NE, Redmond, WA 98052, USA, this establishment, whose name translates to "Midnight Diner" from a well-known Japanese manga, aims to provide a relaxed yet sophisticated dining atmosphere, much like its namesake where patrons enjoy comforting meals at their own pace.
Shinya Shokudō is more than just a place to eat; it's a culinary journey through traditional Japanese flavors with a modern twist. The establishment specializes in Yakitori, the art of grilling skewered meats and vegetables over charcoal, ensuring each bite is bursting with flavor. Beyond Yakitori, the menu boasts a diverse array of Japanese dishes, including fresh sashimi, flavorful donburi (rice bowls), and various Ippin Ryori (small dishes).
Stepping into Shinya Shokudō, guests are greeted by an inviting ambiance that seamlessly merges modern contemporary elements with traditional Japanese aesthetics. The interior design incorporates international and exotic tones, featuring arts and lanterns imported directly from Japan. Oak seating, ambient lighting, and a thoughtful mix of wood and stone textures contribute to an upscale yet comfortable atmosphere. This distinct setting makes it suitable for a variety of occasions, from casual weeknight dinners to more festive celebrations. Patrons can choose to sit at the bar and watch the chefs skillfully grill skewers, adding an interactive dimension to the dining experience. The venue is known for its cleanliness, though parking can sometimes be a bit challenging, so planning for a short walk or arriving prepared for efficient parking is advisable.
Shinya Shokudō is dedicated to providing attentive service to its patrons. Many customers have highlighted the promptness of food delivery after seating, and the staff is generally described as friendly and welcoming. The concept of continuous ordering allows diners to enjoy their meal at their own pace, making it easy to order more whenever desired until satisfied. The restaurant offers dine-in, takeout, and delivery services, providing flexibility for different dining preferences. For those planning a visit, especially during peak hours, making a reservation in advance is strongly recommended, as the popularity of Shinya Shokudō can lead to people being turned away at the door without one. The staff is well-versed in the menu and can offer recommendations, particularly for their extensive selection of sake, Japanese beers, and creative cocktails.
The core of Shinya Shokudō's appeal lies in its meticulously prepared dishes. Their Yakitori is a standout, featuring high-quality ingredients with options ranging from various chicken cuts like Momo (thigh) and Sasami (tenderloin) to more adventurous choices like Kawa (skin) and Hatsu (heart). Beyond chicken, they offer a range of premium skewers including US Wagyu, Japanese A5 Wagyu, and dry-aged USDA prime New York steak. Seafood lovers can indulge in fresh salmon, scallops, and even Uni Ikura Donburi, although one reviewer noted that the proportions of some seafood items might not always match the pictures. Other popular menu items include Karaage (juicy and crispy fried chicken), Tonkatsu (crisp pork with tonkatsu sauce), and a variety of donburi bowls such as Oyakodon, Gyu Don, and Wagyu Tataki Donburi. They also offer a range of ramen dishes, including their notably spicy Gekikara Ramen. For those who enjoy a variety of flavors, the concept makes it easy to try many small plates. The restaurant also caters to different dietary preferences with options like Spicy Vegan Ramen and a Veggie Combo skewer platter. A full bar is available, offering a selection of imported beers, sakes, whiskeys, and creative cocktails, some of which are noted as highlights by patrons.
While specific daily or weekly promotions are not extensively detailed, Shinya Shokudō is known to offer happy hour specials, making it an opportune time to explore their drink and small plate offerings. Some locations, including Tukwila, have offered an "all-you-can-eat" option with a 90-minute time limit for skewers and Japanese dishes; however, it's important to verify if this specific promotion is active at the Redmond location during your visit. The restaurant's operating hours are generally late, providing a convenient dining option for those looking for a meal well into the evening: Monday to Thursday from 4:30 PM to 1:00 AM, Friday and Saturday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 AM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The phone number for reservations and inquiries is (425) 699-9666. Customers have also noted that ordering can sometimes be done via QR code, which might be a change for some diners.
One customer review mentioned a negative experience with raw scallops leading to a stomachache, highlighting the importance of personal discretion, especially with raw food items, and perhaps inquiring about preparation methods if one has sensitivities. Despite this isolated incident, the general consensus points to Shinya Shokudō as a highly regarded establishment for its flavorful food, attentive service, and appealing ambiance.
In summary, Shinya Shokudō in Redmond provides an immersive Japanese Izakaya experience with its artfully crafted environment, diverse menu of high-quality skewers and traditional dishes, and attentive service. It is a highly recommended destination for local users seeking authentic Japanese cuisine in a vibrant and welcoming setting, perfect for both a leisurely meal or a lively gathering.

Shinya Shokudō Reviews
This is a great place to go and just eat at your own pace. The concept they have makes it really easy to just keep ordering whenever you want until you are full. All the food was super flavorful and came out warm. The location was very clean, but parking can be a bit difficult so be prepared to walk or great at parking! My only other recommendation would be to make a reservation a head of time. We were very glad to have done so as people were getting turned away at the door.
Mar 30, 2025 · Sarah LeedomTried a variety of dishes here, and overall, the food was decent for the price. However, my husband experienced a stomachache after eating the raw scallops from the appetizer assortment, which was disappointing. On the plus side, the service was attentive, and the food arrived quickly after we were seated.
Feb 15, 2025 · Anna LI don’t know if it’s because I just came back from Japan, but the food here really isn’t that good for the price. The yakitori came out just lukewarm. I would expect a freshly grilled yakitori to be hotter. We ordered the combo and some of the flavors just don’t mix like the green onion ginger and beef yakitori. Creamy udon was too watery. A5 Wagyu was overcooked. Best thing was the Ankimo and that was just ok. Seats were hard and uncomfortable so if you wanted to come and drink and eat it wouldn’t be comfortable if you planned to stay long. Would not visit again. Overpriced and overrated.
May 16, 2025 · Tammy WongHighly highly highly recommend this place! The food is sooooo amazing! If you like street food/screwed food then RUN to this place! Everything is cooked fresh & perfectly. Flavors are amazing and I literally think about this place daily (it’s that good!)
Mar 15, 2025 · Amy AtkinsonFood was average. Meat skewers were under seasoned and dry. Given the high ratings from other reviewers it felt like a let down.
