This includes a wide array of proteins like steak (Ribeye, Filet Mignon, New York Steak), seafood (Shrimp, Scallops, Lobster, Calamari, Salmon, White Fish, Halibut), and chicken, typically served with soup, salad, grilled vegetables, and fried rice.
- Sushi Bar: Shogun also operates a full sushi bar, offering a comprehensive menu of traditional sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and a wide selection of specialty rolls. Customers often look forward to trying their sushi after experiencing the teppanyaki.
- À La Carte Kitchen Menu: Beyond teppanyaki, they offer an extensive kitchen menu with appetizers (Edamame, Gyoza, Tempura, Crabmeat Puff, Fried Calamari), soups (Miso Soup, Clear Onion Soup), salads, and various Japanese entrees like Teriyaki (Chicken, Salmon, Steak), Katsu (Chicken, Salmon), Yakisoba (Chicken, Beef, Shrimp, Vegetable), and Donburi bowls.

Shogun Restaurant is celebrated for numerous features and highlights that make it a standout dining destination in San Diego.
- "Dinner with a Show" Teppanyaki Experience: This is undoubtedly the main attraction. Master chefs dazzle guests with "samurai-like swordsmanship" as they skillfully "slice, dice, juggle, and entertain," while preparing food on the sizzling hibachi grill. This interactive and lively atmosphere creates a truly memorable event.
- High-Quality and Perfectly Cooked Proteins: Customers consistently rave about the quality of the food cooked on the grill. Highlights include "scallops practically melt in your mouth," and "lobster and shrimp both cooked just right," emphasizing no "toughness on any of the food." The meats like Ribeye and Filet Mignon are also highly praised.
- Delicious Fried Rice: The "fried rice was delicious as well," indicating attention to detail even for staple sides, which is often a mark of a good teppanyaki spot.
- Friendly and Talented Chefs: The individual chefs, like "Jose," receive direct praise for creating a "wonderful time and good food," highlighting their culinary skill and engaging personalities.
- Full Sushi Bar: Beyond the hibachi, Shogun offers a comprehensive sushi menu, including traditional nigiri, sashimi, and an array of specialty rolls, catering to all Japanese food lovers.
- Expert "Pro Tips": The existence of "Pro Tips" like flipping rice to keep it warm and asking for garlic butter on the side (melted on the grill) demonstrates a culture of sharing knowledge and enhancing the dining experience for patrons.
- Varied Menu Options: The menu caters to diverse tastes with a wide selection of appetizers, traditional dinners, and various combination specials (like the "Shogun Special" with ribeye/fillet mignon, lobster, and shrimp/scallops), ensuring something for everyone.
- Established Reputation: As a multi-location restaurant established in 1980 with locations throughout Southern California, Shogun has a long-standing reputation for excellence and consistent customer service.
Shogun Restaurant, with its extensive menu and popularity, offers various pricing structures and occasional promotions designed to provide value and attract diners. While specific, constantly changing "coupon-style" promotions might not be widely advertised, here's what typically constitutes their special offers based on public data:
- Lunch Specials: Shogun offers a dedicated lunch menu with various Teppan-style entrees and traditional Japanese entrees (like Teriyaki, Katsu, Tempura) at more affordable prices compared to dinner. Lunch Teppan entrees include options like Sesame Chicken, New York Steak, Filet Mignon, and Samurai Shrimp, often significantly cheaper than their dinner counterparts.
- Combination Dinners: Their menu features various "Shogun Combination Dinners" and "Signature Combinations" (like the "Shogun Special" mentioned in reviews). These platters combine multiple proteins (e.g., steak, shrimp, scallops, lobster) at a bundled price, offering a comprehensive meal that can be more economical than ordering each item separately.
- Happy Hour: While explicit details for the San Diego location's happy hour are not immediately prominent in all search results, similar Shogun locations often offer happy hour specials on drinks and selected appetizers at the bar. It's recommended to inquire directly with the San Diego location for current happy hour timings and offerings.
- Special Occasion Packages: Given its suitability for celebrations, Shogun may offer special packages or set menus for birthdays, anniversaries, or corporate events, though these would typically be arranged directly with the restaurant.
- Online Ordering & Delivery Promotions: When ordering through their own online portal or via third-party platforms like Postmates, DoorDash, and Caviar, there may occasionally be platform-specific promotions such as free delivery for first-time users or discounts on large orders.

Shogun Restaurant Reviews
What a great place for dinner with a show. This was my first visit here and totally enjoyed it. The shots and the food!I had Shrimp, lobster, scallops and fish. It was supposed to be Calamari, but I'm glad I got fish instead. So good. The scallops practically melt in your mouth. The lobster and shrimp both cooked just right as well. No toughness on any of the food. The fried rice was delicious as well. Our cook was Jose, so thank you House for a wonderful time and good food. Can't wait to come back to have sushi!
February 22 · Lisa MPro Tips:- Flip the rice on your plate so it stays warm.- Ask for garlic butter on the side n have them melt it on the grill while cooking.Got the Shogun Special. Comes with ribeye (or fillet minion), lobster, samurai shrimp (or calamari / scallops)
May 16 · Josie PalmaWe love to go here for Teppanyaki. It's not as crowded as Benihanas and I think the food is better. There is always a lot of food and most of the time I'll have leftovers for lunch the next day. It's always a fun dinner.Reservations highly recommended.I love their ribeye and colossal shrimp combo. And you must do the chicken fried rice instead of plain white rice. It's delicious.Everyone gets mixed vegetables and 2-3 shrimps with their orders too. A miso soup and side salad is served before the chef comes out.
March 30 · Sharon BAt first our experience was going well until it came time for our food to arrive. We ordered the combination plate of chicken teriyaki and steak. They each came out on different small plates, and it arrived COLD. Our waitress did take our food back. We got our food the second time and it still wasn’t warm unfortunately. On top of that we waited 30-45min for the remainder of our food (fried rice) to come out. We just wanted to have a nice dinner and we left with our food and just enjoyed it at home. If you want your meals to be hot and served all on one plate then you have to reserve a spot at the chefs table according to the manager I spoke to. Do better.I also just realized that we weren’t even given our mixed vegetables..? This place is absolutely TERRIBLE!!! So not worth $70+ for two people.
February 17 · Jessica TerrazasWow, this place was amazing. Happy people in every direction enjoying food cooked and prepared in front of them. It's a fun place to go. We enjoyed Rib-eye steak with lobster, which included shrimp, rice, veggies, salad and soup. We brought enough home for a second full dinner!!
