Singo Sushi Introduce
For those of us living in Connecticut, especially in the Waterbury area, finding a truly satisfying sushi spot often comes with high expectations. We look for freshness, creativity, and a place that consistently delivers on flavor. Singo Sushi in Waterbury has been a familiar name in this pursuit for years, attracting a loyal following and garnering "rave reviews" from many who consider it among "some of the best sushi in CT."
Singo Sushi has built a reputation for providing "always fresh and delicious" sushi, appealing to purists and adventurous eaters alike. They are particularly "known for their baked rolls," offering unique flavor profiles that stand out. Beyond the sushi, their menu extends to other Japanese favorites, providing a diverse selection for various palates. What makes Singo Sushi even more appealing to many locals is its "BYOB" (Bring Your Own Bottle) policy, allowing diners to pair their favorite drinks with their meal. While recent experiences for some patrons have varied, leading to questions about the "hype" and pointing out areas for improvement such as restaurant temperature, portion balance, or specific dish execution, Singo Sushi remains a long-standing fixture in the Waterbury dining scene, consistently drawing customers who value fresh ingredients and quick service for their Japanese food cravings.
Singo Sushi is conveniently located at 1480 Meriden Rd # 4, Waterbury, CT 06705, USA. Meriden Road is a significant thoroughfare in Waterbury, making the restaurant easily accessible for residents within Waterbury and from surrounding communities in New Haven County. Its location within a commercial plaza ensures visibility and straightforward navigation for those traveling by car.
Accessibility to Singo Sushi is generally good. As it's situated in a plaza (implied by "Meriden Rd # 4"), there is typically ample parking available directly adjacent to the establishment. This helps to alleviate the common stress of finding a spot, particularly during peak dining hours. The ease of parking contributes to a more hassle-free experience whether you're dining in or picking up a takeout order. For those relying on public transportation, it's advisable to check local CT Transit bus routes that might service the Meriden Road corridor, though personal vehicles remain the most common mode of transport for residents in this area of Connecticut. The restaurant's presence on a well-trafficked road makes it a practical and simple choice for locals seeking their sushi and Japanese food fix. Additionally, the mention of "a small package store next door" enhances its BYOB appeal, providing direct convenience for patrons wishing to bring their own alcoholic beverages.

Singo Sushi in Waterbury offers several compelling features that have contributed to its long-standing presence and positive reputation among many locals, alongside some points that recent experiences highlight for potential improvement:
Fresh and Delicious Sushi: Many long-time customers laud Singo Sushi for being "always fresh and delicious," indicating a consistent quality that has built a loyal following over the years. This core strength is crucial for any sushi establishment.
Known for Baked Rolls: Singo Sushi has a particular reputation for its "baked rolls," which suggests a unique offering that differentiates it from other sushi restaurants. These rolls may appeal to those looking for different textures or flavors beyond traditional raw fish. The menu indeed features numerous baked roll options.
BYOB Policy: A significant advantage is that it's "BYOB," which provides flexibility and cost savings for diners who wish to enjoy alcoholic beverages with their meal. The convenient location of "a small package store next door" further enhances this feature.
Fast and Efficient Service: Customer feedback indicates that the "food arrived quickly" and that diners can be "in and out in an hour," highlighting an efficient service model that appeals to those with busy schedules.
Diverse Menu (Beyond Just Sushi): In addition to a wide range of sushi and sashimi, Singo Sushi offers a comprehensive selection of hot kitchen items, including various Teriyaki dishes, Tempura, Udon noodles, and Tonkatsu, ensuring options for all preferences within a group.
Value-Oriented Lunch Specials: Their extensive lunch special menu, including various Roll Lunch Specials, Lunch Box Specials, and Sushi Combo Lunch Specials, provides excellent value for midday dining.
However, it's also important to acknowledge recent customer feedback that points to areas of concern:
Inconsistent Experience: One recent review suggests an "extremely average" experience, contrasting with "rave reviews." Specific issues included the restaurant being "freezing," a chair cushion detaching, overly large sushi pieces being "difficult to eat," and hot dishes like steak teriyaki lacking sauce and being mostly fat, and salmon sliced "so thin that you could actually see the wasabi underneath."
Quality Control on Specific Dishes: The review highlighted issues with portioning (too much cucumber/rice, thin salmon, fatty steak) and flavor consistency (non-existent teriyaki sauce, drowned in sauce for another roll).
Singo Sushi regularly offers various value-driven options, particularly during lunchtime, which serve as ongoing promotions. While there aren't explicit, rotating "specials of the week" detailed, their menu structure highlights several attractive offerings:
Lunch Specials: Singo Sushi provides a comprehensive range of lunch specials, available during specified hours (e.g., 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM). These include:
Roll Lunch Special: Offering different tempura rolls (Salmon, Shrimp, Calamari, Salmon Skin) at a fixed, affordable price (e.g., $13.00).
Lunch Box Special: A complete meal featuring a choice of Teriyaki (Chicken, Beef, Salmon), BBQ Short Ribs, or Tonkatsu, served with miso soup, salad, a California Roll, and Shumai (e.g., $14.00 - $15.45).
Sushi Combo Lunch Special: Various combinations of sushi pieces (e.g., 7 or 9 pieces) with a California or Spicy Tuna roll, or Chirashi, at competitive prices (e.g., $17.00 - $19.00).
BYOB Policy: While not a traditional "promotion," the Bring Your Own Bottle policy acts as a significant cost-saving feature for diners, allowing them to enjoy their preferred beverages without restaurant markups.
Online Ordering Discounts: It's always worth checking third-party delivery platforms like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub directly, as these services sometimes offer exclusive first-time user discounts or promotional codes that can be applied to Singo Sushi orders.

Singo Sushi Reviews
For years I’ve heard rave reviews about Singo, so my mother-in-law, husband, and I stopped in for dinner tonight. While it’s exceptionally cold outside at the moment, I don’t think there was any heat on at all - it was freezing in the restaurant! Sat down and my chair cushion popped off of the seat and had to swap it out. Server was nice and food arrived quickly, we were in and out in an hour. However, we found everything to be extremely average. They’re known for their baked rolls, and I’m still left wondering exactly what that means. I had the chicken teriyaki roll, which was mostly filled with cucumber, and the sushi pieces were so huge that it was difficult to eat. I also ordered the steak teriyaki, and I’ve never received it like this before. The teriyaki sauce was non-existent, and it had very thin slices of beef that were mostly fat. Definitely was not worth the $23. My husband said his hot night 2 roll was overly drowned in sauce and had too much rice, and his salmon was sliced so thin that you could actually see the wasabi underneath - at all of the places we’ve been to, we’ve never seen that before. My mother in law was fine with the tuna tartare. We’re really left wondering what all of the hype is about.
Jan 10, 2025 · Food of CTBeen coming here for years. Some of the best sushi in CT! Always fresh and delicious. It's byob and there's a small package store next door.
Feb 12, 2024 · John MastropietroThis place has the best sushi in the greater waterbury area. Singo is back and he is a true artist when it comes to his dishes. Just visited today and they have expanded their space. It is now double in size and they did a great job with the renovation. Ingredients are always fresh and you can find some very creative rolls at this place. I always stop in when I visit the area.
Jun 26, 2017 · J SantosSushi was fantastic, What a Menu! I like eating sushi but going here really showed me just how inexperienced I am with a true sushi restaurant. Google will be your friend here because I could not understand 99 % of the very large sushi menus . That being said we basically got a chefs choice combo which came with many different cuts of sashimi and it was excellent and fresh. We also got the miso soup which was awesome! We sat at a table near the exterior walls though and there are no heaters, so it was cold. We will definitely be returning but sitting closer to the kitchen :)
