Soraya, having opened its doors in November 2024, has quickly made a mark on the Detroit dining scene. Customers have expressed high satisfaction, with one patron exclaiming, "I haven’t had a dining experience like this in awhile." This sentiment underscores Soraya's commitment to delivering a memorable and unique meal. The restaurant excels at its starter dishes, which are described as "all delicious and arrived super fast." Highlights include perfectly cooked "octopus skewers," "very good broccolini tempura," and "delicious and creamy lobster croquette." These "small plates" are noted for being "larger than I expected," offering a delightful surprise in portion size for their category.
The culinary team at Soraya is dedicated to creating a menu that is both innovative and accessible. The drink menu is equally impressive, with a "well-curated selection of sake, Japanese whiskey, and craft cocktails," ensuring that the beverage experience is as integral to the dining journey as the food. The thoughtful accommodation for special occasions, such as birthdays, further solidifies its appeal for celebratory moments.

Soraya Reviews
I haven’t had a dining experience like this in awhile. The starters were all delicious and arrived super fast. The octopus skewers were cooked perfectly, and the broccolini tempura was very good. The lobster croquette was also delicious and creamy. I celebrated my birthday and I was accommodated really well which was nice. Everyone in my party enjoyed it. Also the “small plates” were larger than I expected.
Mar 09, 2025 · eI’ll preface this by saying we came on a Tuesday evening. The food was mostly very good. We got several sushi dishes and each were very good. The issue we ran into was them being out of several ingredients for items we wanted, especially bc we had 2 vegetarian friends who love sweet potato roll but they did not have it. There were limit vegetarian options for them. The vegetable roll they have on the menu is not filling and kind of a salad in a roll. They also did not have the Pork Katsu and a drink item I cannot remember. Staff was pretty nice but they have to up their staffing. Half the restaurant was open but we had a 20 min wait due to decrease staff. Our hostess was even helping them out. It’s a good location to downtown.
May 17, 2025 · Ritika JainMy significant other reserved dinner reservations for Valentine’s Day at Soraya. It was a 5 course meal with different seafoods, salad/veggies, red meat, and dessert (they also had a vegan option). The food itself was 4.5/5 stars. It was super delicious and well thought out. I was really impressed and enjoyed every single bite. The chef or team of chefs did such an excellent job creating the menu. My cocktail (Hiza Hornet) was so tasty. I ordered two of them. The service was okay, it was really busy and maybe confusing when it came to serving a 5 course meal to every single table. We had to wait a bit between each meal. I think there was some miscommunication (which is okay, since this wasn’t a normal dinner that they’re used to) The staff was very kind though. Other than that, the atmosphere was lovely. I also enjoyed how they gave each couple a rose upon arrival. It’s the small things. ❤️I wanted to take photos of each meal, but I totally forgot after my second course.
Feb 15, 2025 · Rema MakkiI am SO GLAD they're open for lunch - I missed my downtown sushi! Soraya is definitely an improvement on Maru - much better service, same chic, modern atmosphere, delicious fresh food. I came in by myself after the lunch rush - around 1:30pm - and was greeted warmly, seated immediately, and given water as soon as I sat down. The sushi menu is a little bit limited, but they did have a couple of very interesting sounding veggie rolls aside from the basic shrimp tempura, California rolls and salmon/tuna. I look forward to returning for those. This day, I had the shrimp tempura roll, which was perfect. I also had the lions mane katsu which I LOVED. It is a perfect vegetarian dish - lovely juicy almost fatty mushroom texture on the inside and super crispy on the outside. Served super hot right out of the fryer with fresh tangy slaw and perfectly cooked rice. Yum. I will be here often.
Mar 31, 2025 · CarolynI went to Soraya for my birthday dinner and I had one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in the city in forever! My waitress, Juju, was exceptional. So friendly, smart, funny, and very well educated about the menu and how to build the best food experience. Also, she guided us to try the special - fried enoki mushrooms - for our appetizer. It was so delicious I was cussing up a storm! It was plated so nicely too. And the SAUCE! So good! Spicy and crispy and YUM.We got some hamachi nigiri that was very good quality and the shiro dragon roll. Extremely yummy! Also, quite large. The food was too good and I forgot to take a picture! For our mains, I got the sakura pork katsu and my partner got the octopus curry. The katsu was perfectly fried, juicy, and delicious and paired with a slaw that did a great job of balancing the fattiness of the meat with its brightness. The octopus curry was GREAT. (Also, the octopus with the slaw from my meal was DELIGHTFUL.)For dessert, we shared the matcha tiramisu.I could write odes to that tiramisu. The pastry chef is SO gifted. The whipped cream was so thick and creamy. Odes. Let me tell you. It was phenomenal. We had a Chelsea spritz or two too. Very tasty mocktail. I didn’t even miss the alcohol!
