Sumo Teriyaki Introduce
For those in Renton, WA, searching for a Japanese restaurant that offers a distinctive spin on classic teriyaki, **Sumo Teriyaki** presents a unique and memorable option. While the platform category "Doctor Near Me" typically aids in finding healthcare providers, Sumo Teriyaki provides a different kind of "treatment"βa substantial and often surprising culinary experience that addresses serious hunger. It's a place that, despite some unconventional approaches, clearly aims to offer a satisfying and affordable meal to its local community.
You can find Sumo Teriyaki conveniently located at **2439 Maple Vly Hwy, Renton, WA 98057, USA**. For inquiries or to place an order, you can reach them at **(425) 891-7220** or on their mobile at **+1 425-891-7220**. In the context of a "Doctor Near Me" search, Sumo Teriyaki can be seen as a specialist for those seeking generous portions and unique flavor profiles in their Japanese-American comfort food. Itβs a spot to consider when you need a hearty, no-fuss meal that might just surprise your taste buds.
Sumo Teriyaki offers an atmosphere that, while perhaps not overtly luxurious, is characterized by its **welcoming and friendly demeanor**. One reviewer specifically mentioned feeling "like I was back at my auntie's house for the weekend," indicating a warm and comforting environment where staff engage in friendly conversation. The interior is described as a "small but spacious area," suggesting that while it might not be a grand dining hall, it is well-organized and comfortable enough for patrons to wait or dine. Despite being located near a busy highway, the reviewer noted having "no trouble tuning out the sounds of passing traffic," which implies a comfortable and perhaps intimate interior. This friendly, home-like atmosphere contributes significantly to the overall positive customer experience, making it a place where you feel at ease, much like the comforting environment you'd hope for from a trusted "Doctor Near Me."
Sumo Teriyaki primarily offers **takeout and dine-in services** for its Japanese-American menu. A standout aspect of their service is the **exceptional hospitality**. Customers are greeted warmly, with one reviewer even receiving a free bottle of water while waiting. The staff engages in friendly conversation, taking the time to explain unique aspects of their dishes, such as the inclusion of Asian mayo and cheese on the rice. This level of attentiveness and genuine interaction makes customers feel valued and enhances their overall experience. The quick service for takeout, with food picked up "right from the kitchen fresh" and eaten within minutes, also highlights their efficiency. This personal and efficient service aligns with the ideal patient experience one would seek from a "Doctor Near Me" β attentive, informative, and prompt.
Sumo Teriyaki is distinguished by several unique features, though some elements elicit mixed reactions:
- Insanely Generous Portions: This is a defining characteristic. Customers consistently highlight the "INSANE" amount of food provided, often yielding "multiple days of meals from the two items ordered." This makes Sumo Teriyaki an excellent value proposition.
- Fresh and High-Quality Ingredients: Despite some flavor concerns, the quality of the ingredients is praised, with the chicken noted for having "no gristle or bad bits." This commitment to fresh, quality components is a significant positive.
- Unique Rice Combination (Cheese & Asian Mayo): This is arguably their most distinctive feature. The inclusion of cheese and Asian mayo with the rice is presented as a "signature" element designed to "balance out some of the salty flavor from the teriyaki sauce." This creates a truly unconventional flavor profile, which one reviewer found "remarkably delicious" and a "surprise and realization of what I have been missing." However, another found it "kind of weird tasting" and not good reheated, indicating it's a polarizing but memorable addition.
- Yakisoba Excellence: The yakisoba received glowing reviews, with praise for its "so many flavors," "noodles and vegetables that were cooked to perfection," and "chicken that was grilled just right." This suggests strong consistency and flavor in this particular dish.
It's important to note the critical feedback regarding the **teriyaki sauce**, which was described as a "gloopy substance" or "gelatin" that wouldn't melt, leading to a "bland and lacking in much flavour" experience for one customer. This highlights a potential area of inconsistency or a unique house style that may not appeal to all palates expecting a traditional teriyaki sauce.
Sumo Teriyaki's strongest promotional asset is its **unique offerings and exceptional customer service**, leading to strong word-of-mouth and repeat business. While explicit "promotions" aren't detailed, the value derived from the large portions and the personal touch from the staff are highly effective incentives:
- Value through Portion Size: The "insane" amount of food acts as a powerful promotion, making the initial price seem less expensive in comparison to the number of meals derived from an order. This affordability, coupled with varying price points (kids, regular, large), makes it accessible to a wide customer base.
- Outstanding Hospitality: The welcoming atmosphere and friendly conversations cultivate a sense of loyalty and make customers feel genuinely appreciated. This personal connection is a significant draw, turning first-time visitors into regulars.
- "New Go-To Restaurant": The declaration of becoming a "new go to teriyaki restaurant every Sunday and possibly even twice a week" from a satisfied customer is the ultimate form of endorsement, indicating a high level of satisfaction and sustained patronage.
- Polarizing Uniqueness: While the cheese and mayo in rice might not appeal to everyone, its very distinctiveness makes it memorable and generates conversation, acting as a form of organic marketing.
In the broader sense of the "Doctor Near Me" platform, which connects users with immediate local services and goods, Sumo Teriyaki acts as a specialized "Doctor Near Me" for your hunger. Are you suffering from a severe case of appetite? Do you require a meal that will last you for days? Sumo Teriyaki is your go-to "specialist." Their unique approach to teriyaki, particularly the rice customization, serves as an "innovative treatment" for the palate. The incredibly generous portions are the "heavy dosage" you need to feel satisfied, and the exceptionally friendly staff provide the "comforting care" that makes your visit pleasant. While some "prescriptions" (like the gelatinous sauce) might not be for everyone, others (like the yakisoba or the novel cheese/mayo combo) could be precisely what you never knew you needed. Sumo Teriyaki offers a distinctive remedy for your hunger, delivered with warmth and a commitment to filling you up.
In summary, Sumo Teriyaki in Renton, WA, offers a highly distinctive Japanese-American dining experience. It is celebrated for its incredibly generous portion sizes, high-quality ingredients, and exceptionally welcoming customer service. While its unique approach to teriyaki sauce and the addition of cheese and Asian mayo to rice might be polarizing, these elements define its character and appeal to a loyal customer base seeking something different. For those in the Renton area looking for a substantial, affordable, and friendly dining option β a true "Doctor Near Me" for a hearty meal β Sumo Teriyaki is certainly a place worth exploring.

Sumo Teriyaki Reviews
We got takeout here a few months ago, and it was a real mixed experience. Price wise, it seems a bit expensive at first, but the amount of food they give you is INSANE. I'm not exaggerating, we had multiple days of meals from the two items we ordered. The ingredients are fresh and very high quality; the chicken had no gristle or bad bits you can't eat.So why only three stars? Because, unfortunately, the food is quite bland and lacking in much flavour. Worse, the teriyaki sauce was a sort of...gelatin. You can see looking at the photo how it's not sauce, it's a gloopy substance. The food was picked up right from the kitchen fresh and I was eating it within 10 minutes. So it was hot, but the teriyaki "gel" wouldn't melt. That was pretty gross. One of their "signature" things is putting cheese with the rice. The first bite I had, I thought "Oh, this is pretty tasty!". By the third bite I was more "Huh, this is kind of weird tasting". Re-heating the rice later? It's not good at all. So I am not a fan of cheese in rice.Maybe I'll try this place again in a while and hope they at least switch to teriyaki sauce. π€·π»ββοΈ
January 03 Β· Jason DunnI stopped in for a late night dinner, ordering kids sized spicy chicken teriyaki and regular yakisoba to go (default when trying a new teriyaki joint). As I waited inside a small but spacious area I was given a bottle of water for free and having friendly conversation about their meals and what make them unique. I have never been in a more welcoming restaurant than this, I felt like I was back at my auntie's house for the weekend having no trouble tuning out the sounds of passing traffic outside as the person who took my order explained to me that they put asian mayo and cheese on the rice which balances out some of the salty flavor from the teriyaki sauce. When opening my meal at my house I had discovered I hadn't got my spicy chicken bowl BUT it was remarkably delicious, coming with a side of broccoli and a base of rice with cheese and mayo slathered on. This combination of different flavors took me for a surprise and realization of what I have been missing for such a long time. When trying the yakisoba I again experienced so many flavors as well as having the noodles and vegetables that were cooked to perfection and chicken that was grilled just right.Sumo Teriyaki has become my new go to teriyaki restaurant every Sunday and possibly even twice a week because of the varying prices (kids, regular, large) making it affordable.
May 05 Β· DJNot often do I write a review but this is spot I keep going back to! As many mention, the portions are huge. My go to is the spicy chicken bowl via takeout. Something about the chicken, sauce, broccoli, and cheese thatβs different from other teriyaki spots in a great way. The ingredients feel clean and healthy, which is refreshing. Also have to shout out the employees for being so so friendly. Highly recommend giving this place a try!
February 24 Β· Kyler TroutnerFood is very good. The classic teryaki chicken comes with cheese over the rice. It's such a delecious thing to add to this dish. The egg rolls are also very tasty. The regular portion of food can feed two people easily. The dining room is not very cozy, and there are no garbage cans. Recommend doing takeout! There really is not a lot of service. When you enter the restaurant, you order on a screen and have hardly any interaction with any employees.
September 20 Β· Evan TherrienI order from here at least twice a month. The food is delicious and has huge portions. The lady is very kind and so far every single thing I've tried is amazing π I love this place β€οΈ
