SUSHI1 NYC Introduce
In a city where dining out can often come with a hefty price tag, especially when it comes to quality Japanese cuisine, SUSHI1 NYC emerges as a welcome breath of fresh air. Located conveniently on 6th Avenue, this sushi spot has carved out a niche by offering fresh and tasty sushi that won't break the bank. For New Yorkers who appreciate good food but also keep an eye on their budget, SUSHI1 NYC provides a compelling option that challenges the notion that excellent sushi must always be expensive.
SUSHI1 NYC is quickly becoming a local favorite for its consistent quality and approachable price point. While it might have the look of a fast-food establishment, the reviews highlight a commitment to fresh ingredients and well-prepared dishes, delivered with a surprising level of service. It's a place where you can satisfy your sushi craving without feeling the pinch, making it ideal for a quick lunch, a casual dinner, or a convenient takeout order after a long day exploring the city. For those who remember a time when good sushi in NYC was more accessible, SUSHI1 NYC aims to bring that feeling back, proving that "cheap" can still mean "delicious" and "fresh."
SUSHI1 NYC is strategically situated at 555 6th Ave, New York, NY 10011, USA. This prime location places it within the bustling energy of Chelsea, just a stone's throw from Union Square. This area is a vibrant intersection of residential buildings, commercial businesses, and popular retail, making it a high-traffic zone for both residents and visitors alike. Being on 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) provides excellent visibility and easy access.
The restaurant's central location ensures superb accessibility via New York City's extensive public transportation network. It's incredibly convenient to reach by subway, with several major lines and stations within a short walking distance. The 14th Street-Union Square station, a major transportation hub, is a quick stroll away, serving the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R, and W trains. Additionally, the F and M trains at 14th Street and 6th Avenue are right nearby. This makes SUSHI1 NYC an effortless destination for anyone commuting from various parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn, or other boroughs. Numerous bus routes also traverse 6th Avenue and cross 14th Street, providing additional options. While parking in this dense part of Manhattan can be challenging and costly, the abundance of efficient public transit options makes SUSHI1 NYC a hassle-free choice for a fresh and affordable sushi experience.
SUSHI1 NYC focuses on providing fresh and affordable Japanese cuisine, with a strong emphasis on sushi and rolls, alongside other popular dishes. Their service model appears to blend elements of fast-casual dining with attentive table service.
- Dine-In Service: While it might look like a fast-food place, SUSHI1 NYC provides a comfortable setting where food is brought to your table and staff also handle cleanup, allowing for a relaxed dining experience. The atmosphere is described as clean, though not necessarily an "ambience" focus, prioritizing efficiency and good food.
- Extensive Sushi & Roll Menu: SUSHI1 NYC offers a wide variety of sushi and sashimi, with many options priced affordably, sometimes even as low as $1 per piece for a la carte nigiri (e.g., Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Eel, Shrimp). Their menu also includes:
- Classic Rolls: Such as California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, Philadelphia Roll, Yellowtail Scallion Roll, and more.
- Specialty Rolls: Creative combinations like Rainbow Roll, Shrimp & Salmon Roll, TAO Roll (shrimp tempura, torch salmon), Spicy Vegas Roll, and more.
- Sushi & Sashimi Combos/Boxes: Pre-set combinations like "All Salmon" (rolls, nigiri, sashimi), "Salmon & Tuna," "All Spicy," "Bestseller," and various sushi and sashimi boxes in different quantities.
- Appetizers and Sides: To complement the main dishes, they offer a selection of popular Japanese appetizers:
- Edamame (including Organic)
- Spring Rolls
- Gyoza (pork or chicken)
- Crispy Rice (with spicy tuna, salmon, or avocado)
- Shrimp Tempura
- Seaweed Salad, Kani Salad, Avocado Salad
- Miso Soup
- Noodle & Rice Dishes: Beyond sushi, they also offer other Japanese favorites like Pad Thai/Udon with various protein choices (Chicken, Shrimp).
- Takeout and Delivery: A significant portion of their business appears to be takeout and delivery, as evidenced by customer reviews mentioning ordering through platforms like Uber Eats. This provides a convenient option for those who prefer to enjoy their sushi at home or in the office.
- Friendly and Polite Service: Despite the fast-casual appearance, the staff is noted for being friendly, polite, and helpful, contributing to a positive customer experience.
SUSHI1 NYC distinguishes itself in the competitive New York City dining scene with several key features and highlights:
- Affordable Pricing for Quality Sushi: The most prominent highlight is its exceptional price-to-quality ratio. Customers consistently praise SUSHI1 NYC for offering fresh and tasty sushi at prices that are considered "quite cheap for NYC," making it a strong contender for those on a "tight budget." The availability of $1 a la carte sushi pieces is particularly noteworthy.
- Fresh and Tasty Ingredients: Despite the low price point, reviews confirm that both the rice and the fish are "fresh, tasty and well prepared." This commitment to quality, even at an affordable rate, is a significant draw.
- Efficient and Quick Service: While it feels like a fast-food place in terms of speed, the service includes bringing food to your table and clearing up, providing a more comfortable experience than typical fast-food. This quick service is ideal for busy New Yorkers on a lunch break.
- Diverse Menu Options: Beyond just basic rolls, SUSHI1 NYC offers a wide array of choices, from various classic and specialty rolls to sushi/sashimi combos and a la carte nigiri. They also provide appetizers and other Japanese dishes, catering to a broad range of tastes.
- Convenient Location: Situated on 6th Avenue near Union Square, the restaurant is easily accessible by multiple subway lines, making it a go-to spot for locals from various neighborhoods.
- Reliable for Takeout/Delivery: The option for easy ordering through platforms like Uber Eats makes it a convenient choice for those who prefer to dine at home or in the office.
- Good Quantities for the Price: Customers note that for the affordable price, the portions are satisfying, ensuring a fulfilling meal without overspending.
While the provided reviews highlight that the concept of "$1 sushi" might not always directly translate to online ordering platforms (where prices can vary), the inherent value of SUSHI1 NYC is its primary and most consistent "special offer." In a city where sushi can be exceptionally expensive, SUSHI1 NYC's regular pricing for fresh and delicious sushi is already highly competitive and serves as its core draw for budget-conscious New Yorkers.
The "to go specials" mentioned on some external sites (though not explicitly confirmed for the 6th Ave location in the provided info) often indicate bundle deals, such as "3 Rolls / 2 Rolls" for a set price, which offers added value for takeout orders. These types of offers are common for establishments focusing on affordability and quick service. It's always advisable for New Yorkers to check directly with the restaurant upon visiting or consult their menu on popular delivery platforms like DoorDash or Uber Eats for the most current pricing and any active promotions. Given their emphasis on value, SUSHI1 NYC's overall affordability and quality are often considered a standing "promotion" in themselves for the New York market.

For New Yorkers who have a perpetual craving for sushi but are also mindful of their wallet, SUSHI1 NYC on 6th Avenue stands out as an incredibly suitable and appealing option. This isn't a place for a lavish, multi-course omakase, but rather a dependable and delightful choice for fresh, satisfying sushi that consistently delivers on taste without the exorbitant price tag.
Firstly, the overwhelming highlight is its affordability. In a city where sushi can easily run into the hundreds, SUSHI1 NYC offers a solution for "eating sushi on a tight budget" while still maintaining commendable quality. The promise of fresh fish and well-prepared rice at such accessible prices is a game-changer for many locals, making sushi an everyday indulgence rather than a rare treat. This ratio of price to quality is a major draw for the pragmatic New Yorker.
Secondly, its convenient location in Chelsea near Union Square, with easy access to multiple subway lines, makes it incredibly practical for a quick lunch break, a casual weeknight dinner, or a convenient takeout order after work. The efficiency of service, combined with the option for dine-in where food is brought to you, further enhances its suitability for the fast-paced New York lifestyle. For those who prioritize fresh ingredients and a satisfying sushi fix over a high-end atmosphere or extensive, experimental menus, SUSHI1 NYC offers an honest, delicious, and budget-friendly solution that will keep New Yorkers coming back for more.

SUSHI1 NYC Reviews
Me: "Kai (my son), what's your favorite food? French fries? Hamburger?..."Kai: "Sushi!"I wish I could have given the same answer when I was a kid.I have great memories of cheap and excellent sushi in NYC and I told Kai about it before going there... Unfortunately, nowadays, NYC is way more expensive than it used to be and sushi in particular seems super expensive. But Kai does not care about money and he wanted sushi... after a few days of choosing food without asking him, he got to choose and, of course, he chose sushi. Fortunately we had walked by a sushi shop called Sushi1 that has good reviews and sells $1 sushi... So we ordered in.I couldn't find any $1 sushi on their Uber Eats page but maybe prices are different when you order in. Anyway it's still quite cheap for NYC (we paid about $60 for 3 with no dessert and ate enough) so no big deal. When the food arrived, I must say I was not confident as it didn't look very good. But it's just the look: both the rice and the fish are fresh, tasty and well prepared. The yellowtail and scallion temaki probably was the less good item but it was decent enough.A good option to eat sushi on a tight budget while in NYC.Quality & taste: 7/10Quantities: 7/10Atmosphere: n/aOriginality: 4/10Ratio price / quality: 8/10Service: n/aHow I felt afterwards: 7/10More on IG @runnerandfoodie
February 13 · Mathieu MuraccioleI honestly tried not to spend too much honestly money but somehow ended up with a $26 lunch. Good thing is that the food was delicious. It looks like a fast food place but they do bring the food to you as well as clean up for you. Knowing that I should have left a tip.
June 27 · O V HThis place is amazing, starting with the food that it's so fresh and tasty, every bite of their sushi worth it. The service was amazing the guy who attend the register is so nice and he is really concern about all you need in the table. They really deserve 5 stars, really good experience
January 25 · javiera cuneoSushi 1 is a wonderful place for succulent sushi. Cafeteria-style seating reminiscent of authentic Japanese bistro. A great place to grab a bite to eat.
June 14 · 360 MAGAZINEOhhh MY GOD, the rolls are so good. The Vegas roll is easily my fav. It possess a level of spice that I don’t find in even spicy tuna or salmon rolls. I highly recommend it. I have never order a bento box but they look fantastic as well. I definitely recommend this establishment. I have been treated well, and the entire place is nice and cozy.
