Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Takibi offers a truly distinct and compelling Japanese dining experience that aligns well with the tastes and preferences of Oregon locals, making it a highly suitable choice for those seeking something beyond the ordinary.
Firstly, its aesthetic appeal and unique ambiance are a major draw. Portlanders appreciate well-designed spaces that offer more than just a meal. Takibi's reputation as one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants in the city, with its "cool" style and beautiful interior, creates an immersive atmosphere that elevates the dining experience. The integration with the Snow Peak brand, emphasizing "gathering around the fire," provides a thematic depth that resonates with Oregon's love for the outdoors and community.
Secondly, while some reviews indicate varied experiences with specific food items, the overall culinary ambition and range of offerings cater to diverse palates. The presence of a Michelin-recognized chef, the focus on "quintessential Japanese dishes," and the inclusion of elements like a full omakase menu, high-quality sushi (especially the fish dishes that "shine"), and recognized ramen (one of Portland's best) speak to a commitment to culinary excellence. For locals who enjoy exploring sophisticated Japanese cuisine beyond just sushi, Takibi provides a robust and interesting menu, encouraging "family style ordering" to sample a variety of dishes. The "amazing" cocktails and "expansive sake list" further enhance the experience, catering to Portland's vibrant craft beverage scene.
Furthermore, Takibi provides options for different dining occasions. Whether you're looking for a casual yet refined lunch featuring excellent ramen, a full-course dinner experience, or an indulgent omakase, Takibi accommodates. Its location in NW Portland makes it accessible for many, fitting into the local lifestyle of exploring different neighborhoods. The outdoor patio with fire pits also appeals to the desire for unique, comfortable gathering spaces, particularly enjoyed during Oregon's diverse seasons.
While a single negative review highlighted service issues and food preferences for one party, the consistent positive feedback on ambiance, cocktails, and specific dishes (like the fish and ramen) from many patrons demonstrates Takibi's general ability to deliver a high-quality experience. The emphasis on "care, craft and quality" truly resonates with a local audience that values thoughtful preparation and a unique story behind their dining choices. For Portlanders who seek not just a meal, but an experience that delights the senses and offers a fresh perspective on Japanese cuisine, Takibi is a compelling and suitable destination.

Takibi Reviews
I've been here a maybe 5 or 6 times now and each time I always think Takibi has to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants in Portland. Every cocktail and soju I've tried there has been amazing and the food is great. I'd recommend doing family style ordering a few things across the menu to share so you can get a variety. Last few times I've gone it's been two of us and we've ordered 5-6 items to share plus cocktails and it's a solid meal.
Mar 14, 2025 · Dianne NamgungThe place was so cool, the style is beautiful I was so excited. I saw reviews but I still wanted to come.We had barely any options and apon receiving our food my whole party did not like it.The entire meal we were being hovered over and stared at by the waiter. He watched us take our first bites from afar and then came to our table and said “I saw you all take your first bite, do you like your food?”No we did not.We spent 70$ on 3 people NOT WORTH IT. I WISH the restaurants food was as good as the interior design. Do better.
Apr 08, 2025 · Alcee PetrasNot traditional ramen but delicious and sort of minimalist style. Lunch menu very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!
Mar 03, 2025 · CathyTakibi is an excellent restaurant with elegant and sophisticated decor, excellent service, and high quality food and drinks. They hosted my party of 2 nearly one hour earlier than scheduled with no issues - and had coat check! Our server, William, was very friendly and welcoming and can recommend the most flavorful cocktails and beverages to pair with your meal. The dinnerware, Snow Peak chopsticks, and Snow Peak lamp were really fun to have at the table. We had the 7-course omakase (I should clarify I did not get a picture of all the items) which we thought was well worth it. It was a very balanced meal with a mix of vegetables and proteins and was very creative in practice. We also had a side order of castella tamago which was very unique and delicious. In addition, the food came out really fast for us, which is always a plus in my book.5/5 - I highly recommend Takibi even if you are not familiar with Snow Peak.
Nov 17, 2024 · Brandon Yee"We tried their ramen: Tori Shio and Shoyu. They are traditional Japanese 'Chuka Soba,' and while they look beautiful, the taste is just okay. It's difficult to find authentic, old-style chicken broth and thick wavy noodles in the U.S., so overall, their ramen is good!"
