Chef's Special / Omakase Style: This is arguably Tanoshii's most celebrated offering. Extensive Sushi & Sashimi Menu: Beyond the Chef's Special, Tanoshii offers a wide array of classic and creative sushi rolls (makimono), nigiri, and sashimi. Popular options include the "Signature Roll" (a non-traditional 10-piece roll with fish on top/inside, wrapped in soy paper), "Spicy Tuna," "Chicago Maki" (tuna, salmon, avocado, cucumber), "Rainbow Maki," and various special rolls like "Salmon Truffle Special Roll" and "Fresh Wasabi Special Roll."
Small Bites & Appetizers: A selection of delicious starters such as Edamame, Gyoza (veggie or shrimp dumplings), Agedashi Tofu, Tempura (shrimp and vegetable), and creative dishes like "Fish & Chips" (spicy tuna on tortilla chips) and "Bluefin Truffle Sashimi."
Japanese Classics & Entrees: For those seeking cooked dishes, the menu includes Chicken Teriyaki, Scottish Salmon Teriyaki, and Sweet & Spicy Black Tiger Shrimp. They also offer various Udon Noodle Soups and Yakisoba.
Beverage Program: While a mocktail was noted by one reviewer as not being a favorite, the restaurant does offer a full bar with a selection of Japanese beers, sake, and cocktails to complement your meal. Note that it is a BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottle) establishment, which can be a great perk for diners.
Reservations Recommended: Due to its popularity and "very limited seatings," especially for the omakase, making a reservation in advance is strongly advised to avoid waiting. They have specific seating times for both lunch and dinner.

Tanoshii Sushi West Loop Reviews
Tanoshii Sushi in West Loop is easily one of my favorite sushi spots in Chicago! If you’re craving high-quality, fresh, and creative sushi, this is the place to be.The Chef’s Special is what makes Tanoshii extra special—you never know exactly what you’re getting, but it’s always amazing. You just tell the chef what you like (and don’t like), and they work their magic. Every time, it’s something fresh, flavorful, and beautifully put together. We also tried the Greentea Apple Mocktail, but honestly, I wasn’t a fan—the flavors just didn’t mix the way I hoped. That said, their happy hour is solid, so there are plenty of other drinks and bites to enjoy at a great price.Pro tip: Make a reservation! This place fills up fast, especially during peak hours, so don’t risk the wait. The service is always great, and the cozy, welcoming vibe makes it perfect for a fun night out.
February 11 · Pooja PatelI've had my eye on this place for years. My boyfriend and I moved across the street from it over a year ago, and we just recently tried it last month. This place is overlooked, probably by many, just like it was by me. I always thought it was some mediocre sushi place where you'll find your typical Americanized rolls. I was SO WRONG.I've lived in the city for about 8 years now, and I am not lying when I tell you that this restaurant is top 3 on my list for sushi spots. The fish here is actually really high quality and tastes absolutely delicious (it's imported from Spain so makes sense). It tastes so fresh, which is hard to come by in the city.If the food wasn't enough for how amazing this place is, the staff and service is top tier. The quality of food and the service there will have you thinking you're getting Michelin star quality.Talk to your server about the things you like/dislike and they will point you in the right direction of what to get, and will even make accomodations with their special rolls based on what you like.
August 20 · Diana GondekWent for Restaurant Week and added the Maki Special - loved it! Great vibe, delicious food, and friendly staff 🍣
January 29 · J YTanoshii Sushi in West Loop Chicago is a hidden gem! The ambiance is cozy, the service is impeccable, and the sushi is fresh and delicious. I highly recommend trying their specialty rolls—they're unique and bursting with flavor. Definitely a must-visit for sushi lovers in the area!
June 09 · Jay FalThe rolls aren't that flavorful. The rice is off. There isn't enough of it and the texture is too loose so when you pick up the roll it falls apart. I'm surprised this place has a 4.7 star rating but maybe because I went during happy hour the quality was compromised? The service and atmosphere is very pleasant.
