Tanuki Sushi & Grill Introduce
For those in Illinois with a penchant for exceptional Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi that's as innovative as it is delicious, Tanuki Sushi & Grill stands out as a vibrant and well-loved destination in Chicago. However, beyond the social media buzz, this restaurant offers a genuinely delightful dining experience, combining fresh ingredients, a diverse menu, and a cozy atmosphere that makes it a true gem for locals.
Tanuki Sushi & Grill prides itself on crafting a culinary journey that goes beyond traditional sushi offerings. While their impressive array of maki rolls and fresh sashimi are a major draw, the menu also features delectable grilled items and even Thai curries, showcasing a broader expertise in Asian flavors. Diners consistently praise the freshness of the food and the comfortable ambiance, making it suitable for anything from a casual lunch to an intimate date night. With a welcoming environment and a commitment to quality, Tanuki Sushi & Grill invites residents of Illinois to discover why it's become a celebrated spot for Japanese and Asian-inspired cuisine.
Tanuki Sushi & Grill is conveniently situated at 3006 N Sheffield Ave, Chicago, IL 60657, USA. This prime location in Chicago's vibrant Lakeview neighborhood makes it highly accessible for residents across Illinois, particularly those in the greater Chicago area. Sheffield Avenue is a well-trafficked street, ensuring easy navigation to the restaurant. For those utilizing public transportation, Tanuki Sushi & Grill is very well-connected. It's just a short walk (about one block) from the Belmont Red and Brown Line CTA stations, making it an incredibly convenient destination for those commuting via the 'L' train system. This excellent public transit access significantly reduces the need for personal vehicles and mitigates concerns about parking, which, as with many popular city locations, can sometimes be challenging at busy intersections. - Fresh Ingredients: Despite some feedback on the lunch special's rigidity, the food itself is generally described as "fresh," underscoring the quality of ingredients used.
Tanuki Sushi & Grill provides specific offers that appeal to value-conscious diners in Illinois, primarily through its well-structured lunch program and other unique menu items:
- Dine-In Lunch Special: This is a prominent promotion, available Monday through Thursday from 11:30 AM to 2:45 PM. It allows customers to select a "Maki Set of 3" for approximately $22, which includes three maki rolls along with miso soup and a small house salad. Tanuki Sushi & Grill Reviews
Overall, this place was pretty decent. I stopped by for their lunch special—three maki rolls for $22 including tax, which also came with a generous portion of miso soup and a small house salad. While the food was fresh, the lunch special menu is quite limited. I initially wanted sashimi but was told substitutions weren’t allowed—not even swapping out the salmon for something else. You have to order it exactly as listed, which felt unnecessarily rigid.I opted for three maki rolls instead, but none included spicy mayo, and I found it a bit frustrating that adding a small amount to just one roll would cost an extra $2. Considering how inexpensive mayo is, this felt like nickel-and-diming. Also worth noting: the lunch special is dine-in only—no takeout. After my visit, I noticed the restaurant seems to have gone viral for a sushi assortment platter that's available for takeout, but I couldn’t find it on the menu during my visit. Honestly, if I’d known this was one of those social media-hyped spots, I probably would’ve skipped it.
May 28, 2025 · Nitin MallaKnown for its Viral Sushi Pizza box which I always get when I go but pleasantly surprised at all the amazing dining options. The coziest space perfect for date night and the best shrimp Shuma I’ve had. Loved the Thai curries too. Get their Ocean Drive Roll and Godzilla. BYOB too!
Apr 10, 2025 · Pooja NaikBeen looking for a go to sushi place for frequent take out sushi in Chicago and WOW Tanuki did an amazing job. To start, the sushi pizza concept is great for getting together with friends for a sushi night. The rolls are also HUGE, definitely getting your moneys worth. The fish was very fresh and packaging was great to protect the rolls. Really appreciated them taking the initiative to go ahead and serrated package the gluten free items in our order. Can’t wait to order it again next week!
Jan 09, 2025 · Devin WhiteFood was incredible! We ordered a lot and not a single rolls we didn’t like. Our favorite are Salmon crudo, fire crackers roll and Grisly Godzilla. Appetizers were great too! Service was phenomenal, we had a great experience Ploy and Nan, they both were really nice and gave good recommendations. We will be back for sure
Dec 17, 2024 · Primrose SjnWe had a wonderful lunch following our visit to Millennium Park. The food was fresh and flavorful. The lovely staff was very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. As we ate we noticed they were setting up the outside patio and it looked very inviting.
