Umaya LA - Kaiseki & Sushi Introduce
For Californians seeking an elevated and intimate Japanese dining experience, Umaya LA - Kaiseki & Sushi presents a delightful discovery. Tucked away as something of a "hidden gem" in Los Angeles, this restaurant specializes in Kaiseki, a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner that emphasizes seasonality, exquisite presentation, and meticulous preparation, alongside a selection of fresh sushi. While it might be easy to miss from the outside, stepping inside reveals a chic decor and a surprisingly spacious interior, complete with a full bar boasting an impressive array of Japanese whiskies and other spirits.
Umaya LA prides itself on delivering a refined culinary journey. Guests can explore various tasting menus, including multi-course Kaiseki experiences and dedicated sushi Omakase. Dishes like delicious Wagyu with noodles and traditional Sukiyaki are highlights, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to quality and authentic flavors. The attentive service, where dishes are thoughtfully explained as they arrive, significantly enhances the experience, making Umaya LA an ideal spot for special occasions like anniversary dinners or a sophisticated date night. Despite some reports of busy periods, the overall consensus points to a memorable dining adventure that celebrates the artistry of Japanese cuisine.
Umaya LA - Kaiseki & Sushi is strategically situated at 3322 Wilshire Blvd #100, Los Angeles, CA 90010, USA. This address places it squarely on Wilshire Boulevard, a major and iconic artery running through the heart of Los Angeles, particularly in the bustling Koreatown area.
Despite being described as a "hidden gem" that is "easy to miss when walking by," its location on a prominent boulevard makes it centrally located and generally accessible. Given its address within a building (Suite #100 suggests it's likely on the ground floor or a designated commercial space within a larger complex), specific parking might vary. However, commercial areas along Wilshire Boulevard typically offer a mix of metered street parking and numerous paid parking garages or lots in the vicinity. For those utilizing public transportation, Wilshire Boulevard is extensively served by Metro bus lines, and it is also within reasonable proximity to Metro subway stations, providing convenient access for many Angelenos without the need for a personal vehicle. Its location makes it a suitable destination for locals seeking an upscale dining experience in a vibrant and accessible urban setting, whether coming from nearby neighborhoods or across the greater Los Angeles area.

This is a great date night restaurant that is sort of a hidden gem. It easy to miss this place when walking by, but once you step inside you notice the chic decor. The service is very attentive and all the dishes are explained by the wait staff as they arrive at the table. The three course tasting menu is a bargain with a just right portion size that will fill you up but not overstuff you.The appetizer is a collection of different stuff, but the wagyu with noodles main is delicious.Definitely worth coming to this place for the tasting menus.
May 04, 2025 · HarveyStopped by for anniversary and DineLA!I never knew this place existed, but it seems like they've been around for about two years. The restaurant was a lot bigger than it looked and had a lot of spaces. They even had a full bar inside with a nice list of Japanese Whiskeys (Sorry, no Yamazakis!) and other spirits. The food was good and was presented in a 5 course meal (most likely for DineLA) Although my date got the sushi, I opted for the sukiyaki as they presented themselves as a kaiseki restaurant. They also had other options, but I think their sukiyaki was better than the sushi. The service was great when we first got in, but the place got packed in a few minutes and it seemed like there wasn't enough servers. However, the overall experience was great and I'd probably visit again for a different menu.
Feb 04, 2025 · David YuhAmazing Omakase. Authentic and it really tasted like Japan. When we traveled to Japan we stayed with monks who cooked the best Japanese food I have ever tasted- and this tasted just like that. Authentic, clean, fascinating, and just scrumptous!
Dec 15, 2024 · Hana CUmaya is a fantastic spot that truly delivers on both food and cocktails. The menu offers a great selection of dishes, all prepared with fresh ingredients and packed with flavor. Whether you’re in the mood for sushi, grilled specialties, or inventive appetizers, Umaya doesn’t disappoint. The cocktails are expertly crafted, with a mix of classic and unique options that complement the food perfectly. The atmosphere is chic and inviting, making it an ideal place for a night out or a casual meal with friends. Definitely a must-try for food and cocktail lovers!
Mar 27, 2025 · Michael HoangFantastic quality and the Omakase Lunch is presented beautifully. Although everything was very delicious, the meal seemed a little over the top in a way that traditional Japanese restaurants aren’t. The dining experience is dressed up here and that is reflected a bit in the price. In summary, if you want authentic, straightforward Japanese sushi this may not be the place. If you want an interesting, albeit unnecessary, dining experience, this is a nice place. Keep in mind, though, the interior isn’t anything too special and there isn’t a dedicated parking lot.
