From various sushi rolls to hot hibachi grill items, and numerous other buffet offerings, the restaurant's goal is to offer a plentiful dining experience for its patrons. It aims to be a convenient spot for families, groups, or individuals looking to indulge in a wide assortment of Japanese-inspired dishes without the limitations of a fixed menu.
Umimachi, Sushi & Hibachi is conveniently located at 1881 Central Ave, Albany, NY 12205, USA. Central Avenue is one of Albany's busiest and most recognizable commercial corridors, making the restaurant easily accessible from various points within the city and surrounding suburbs of the Capital Region. Its position on this major road ensures good visibility and straightforward navigation for diners.
The restaurant's location on Central Avenue means it's well-connected by local transportation routes and easily reachable by car from neighboring communities like Colonie, Latham, and Schenectady. Being situated in a commercial area, Umimachi benefits from associated infrastructure, including ample parking options. Typically, establishments on Central Avenue offer dedicated parking lots, which significantly adds to the convenience for visitors who are driving. This ease of access and hassle-free parking contribute to a more relaxed dining experience, allowing patrons to focus on enjoying their meal.
Umimachi, Sushi & Hibachi focuses on a buffet-style dining experience complemented by attentive service:
- All-You-Can-Eat Buffet: This is the primary service offered, providing a vast selection of Japanese and Asian-inspired dishes, including sushi, hibachi, hot entrees, salads, and desserts. The buffet is designed for diners to sample a wide variety of items.
- Dine-In Service: Patrons can enjoy their meal within the restaurant's spacious dining area. The buffet setup allows for self-service of food, with servers assisting with drinks and clearing tables.
- Attentive Table Service: While it's a buffet, the restaurant maintains a staff of "very nice and attentive" waiters who are on hand to assist customers, refill drinks, and manage tables, ensuring a comfortable experience.
- Takeout Options: Although the primary focus is dine-in buffet, some buffet restaurants may offer takeout by weight or fixed-price boxes. It is recommended to contact Umimachi directly to inquire about their current takeout policies for buffet items.
- Gluten-Free Selections: The restaurant makes an effort to point out "gluten free selections," which is a valuable service for diners with dietary restrictions or preferences.
- Lunch and Dinner Buffet: Umimachi operates for both lunch and dinner, providing flexible hours for patrons to enjoy their extensive buffet spread.
Umimachi, Sushi & Hibachi aims to offer a diverse and value-oriented dining experience with several notable features:
- Extensive Buffet Selection: The defining feature of Umimachi is its "buffet style" offering "more than you could ask for." This includes a wide array of choices ranging from various sushi rolls and nigiri to hot hibachi dishes, and numerous other Asian-inspired entrees, appetizers, salads, and desserts.
- Generous Food Portions (Buffet Style): As an all-you-can-eat establishment, the "food is generous" by nature, allowing diners to eat as much as they desire from the available selection. This can be particularly appealing for those with larger appetites or who want to try many different items.
- Attentive and Polite Service: Despite being a buffet, customer reviews highlight the positive service, noting that the "waiter was very nice and attentive" and handled challenging situations with professionalism, demonstrating a commitment to customer care.
- Gluten-Free Awareness: A significant highlight for a buffet restaurant is its attention to dietary needs, with "gluten free selections" being "pointed out." This helps diners with gluten sensitivities navigate the extensive offerings.
- Modern Decoration: Initial impressions from customers note that "The decoration is good," suggesting a pleasant aesthetic environment for dining.
- Value for Cost: While some patrons noted the cost as "very high," it is generally understood that all-you-can-eat buffets inherently come at a higher price point due to the unlimited access to a wide variety of dishes, including more expensive items like certain sushi and seafood. This positions it as a value offering for those looking to eat a large quantity of diverse Japanese food.
- Diverse Culinary Offerings: Beyond standard sushi, Umimachi typically features a range of other hot and cold dishes common in Japanese and pan-Asian buffets, providing something for every palate, even for those who might not primarily be sushi lovers.
As an all-you-can-eat buffet, Umimachi, Sushi & Hibachi's primary "offer" is its fixed-price, all-inclusive dining experience. Unlike à la carte restaurants that might have daily specials on specific dishes, the value proposition of a buffet is in the breadth and unlimited quantity of food available for one price.
However, buffet restaurants often have different pricing tiers for:
- Lunch vs. Dinner: Dinner buffet prices are typically higher than lunch due to a wider selection of premium items, including more seafood or specialty dishes.
- Weekday vs. Weekend: Weekend prices, especially for dinner, might also be slightly higher to account for increased demand and potentially a more elaborate spread.
- Children's Pricing: Many buffets offer discounted rates for children based on age or height, making it a family-friendly dining option.
While specific rotating promotions are less common for buffet models, Umimachi's general offering of "more than you could ask for" at a set price is its core promotional appeal. For the most accurate and current pricing structure for lunch, dinner, weekdays, weekends, and children, it is always best to contact Umimachi directly via phone or check their official online presence, if available.

For residents of New York's Capital Region, particularly those in Albany and its surrounding areas, Umimachi, Sushi & Hibachi offers a unique and suitable dining option for several compelling reasons, especially if you're a local looking for variety and value.
Firstly, its all-you-can-eat buffet concept is a major draw. In a culinary landscape where diverse preferences are common, Umimachi stands out by providing an extensive array of Japanese and Asian dishes. This means that a group of friends or a family can each find something to enjoy, from various sushi rolls and fresh sashimi (as a part of their wide selection) to sizzling hibachi, hot entrees, and even desserts. For those with a hearty appetite or who simply love to sample many different dishes in one sitting, Umimachi offers "more than you could ask for," providing significant value for the cost. As one local noted, "There is no good cafeteria in Albany!" – positioning Umimachi as a strong contender for that expansive, diverse dining experience.
Secondly, the restaurant demonstrates a commitment to customer experience beyond just the food quantity. Reviews highlight "very nice and attentive" service, even under challenging circumstances, which speaks volumes about the staff's professionalism. This level of attentiveness, even in a buffet setting where direct interaction can be less frequent, significantly enhances the dining experience for locals who appreciate good service. Furthermore, the inclusion of "gluten free selections" being "pointed out" shows an important consideration for diners with specific dietary needs, making it more accessible to a broader segment of the community.
Finally, Umimachi's prime location on Central Avenue with easy accessibility and ample parking makes it a convenient choice for spontaneous meals or planned outings. For Albany locals, a restaurant that is easy to get to and provides hassle-free parking is a significant advantage. While some past comments might have raised concerns, the continuous effort to offer a vast selection and maintain attentive service makes Umimachi a suitable destination for Capital Region residents seeking an extensive Japanese buffet experience. It provides a unique niche in the local dining scene, especially for those who prioritize variety and generous portions.

Umimachi, Sushi & Hibachi Reviews
I've always wanted to come to this UMI buffet restaurant! Have you been entangled for a long time? Because the previous comments on the Internet made people feel worried! A few months later! Come and have a try today! The decoration is good. The seat is very crowded, which makes people feel bad at first. There are many dishes, but the taste is average. Especially seafood is not very fresh! Does it look like batter in your mouth? It's obviously not fresh! This cost is very high, which is understandable! But if this is the way to attract guests! This will be counterproductive! In fact, I think it can reduce some burdens! It will be a good business to improve the quality of the dishes! After all, there is no good cafeteria in Albany! I didn't even touch sushi! Service attitude is a plus.
Dec 24, 2024 · Official Lin’sI enjoyed my meal. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. There was a customer seated next to us that was rude to Everyone especially the waiter, but the waiter never lost his cool. The food is generous, buffet style, more than you could ask for, gluten free selections are pointed out.
Aug 06, 2016 · Wendy O'SheaWas looking to try a new sushi/hibachi restaurant when I set out. So I decided on Umimachi since I have never been there before, however that's not really what I got.I believe this is actually Lee's Dragon Buffet. Although there are 2 signs, it is the same establishment. Now I don't want to be petty about it, but that is fairly misleading. I'm not above enjoying a Chinese buffet restaurant, but when I want sushi, I want the experience. This was not that experience. As a Buffet restaurant, I would say it was better than some I've been in. That being said, and since I was out for Sushi, I needed more of a selection than a few different kinds served buffet style. When I asked the staff there, they said it was the same place, and I saw that there was a cold sushi section, so I went with it, but should have looked first. The Chinese hot food side was properly warm about half the time, but it seem well cooked since it was still somewhat fresh and it was still early in the day.I just wish I knew what I was getting into. A good sushi restaurant is not a buffet. It's just not the same, and I can't say this should be considered an actual sushi restaurant if your selections aren't made to order, in my opinion.Going to give it a 2+ because of the selection, and apparent cleanliness.
