Vanilla Fish Introduce
For those of us in California always on the hunt for a good sushi deal, especially an all-you-can-eat (AYCE) option, Vanilla Fish in Riverside, CA, has been a known quantity. This establishment often attracts diners looking for a budget-friendly way to enjoy a wide variety of sushi rolls and other Japanese fare. While the allure of good pricing is certainly a draw, it's important for local users to understand the full dining experience offered here. Like many AYCE models, Vanilla Fish aims to provide a generous offering, but patrons should be prepared for a certain style of service and atmosphere.
Vanilla Fish is located at 5225 Canyon Crest Dr #55, Riverside, CA 92507, USA. This address places it within the Canyon Crest Towne Centre, a well-known shopping and dining hub in Riverside. This location offers significant convenience for residents in the Canyon Crest area and wider Riverside community. Being in a large shopping center typically means there is ample parking available, making it easy for customers to visit. The accessibility of the location is generally a plus, as it's a familiar landmark for many locals and well-connected to main roads in Riverside.
Vanilla Fish primarily offers an all-you-can-eat (AYCE) dining model with a few key considerations:
All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) Sushi: The core service is their AYCE sushi offering, allowing patrons to order multiple rounds of sushi rolls, sashimi (often with limitations), and various appetizers for a fixed price.
Cash Discount: A notable service feature is the incentive for paying with cash, which can result in a better price for the AYCE option, making it more appealing for budget-conscious diners.
Dine-In Service: Customers can dine within the restaurant. The interior is described as "very cozy," though it can feel "very claustrophobic when they’re busy."
Time Limit: It's crucial for diners to be aware of the "90 mins time limit" imposed on the AYCE experience. This duration encompasses the entire meal, from seating to finishing, and can impact the pace of ordering and service.
Vanilla Fish has certain features that are often highlighted by customers, both positively and negatively:
Good Price for AYCE: A primary draw is the "good price" for their all-you-can-eat offering, especially when utilizing the "pay w/ cash discount." This affordability makes it attractive for those looking to maximize their sushi intake on a budget.
Wide Variety of Sushi: AYCE models typically offer an extensive menu of sushi rolls, nigiri, and appetizers, allowing diners to sample many different items. While specific positive mentions are limited in the provided reviews, the general nature of AYCE is variety.
Potential for Fresh Food (sometimes): One review mentioned food "came out so fresh," indicating that at times, the quality of freshness can be high. However, this is contrasted with other experiences of warm or unfresh sushi.
Cozy Interior: The restaurant's interior is described as "very cozy," which can be a positive for intimate dining when not busy.
It is important to acknowledge that some reported aspects may affect the overall experience:
Inconsistent Food Temperature: A significant concern raised by one customer was "room temperature, practically warm" sushi, with speculation that the sushi chef's open door contributed to this issue. This points to potential inconsistencies in food handling.
Slow Service and Long Wait Times: "The food taking forever to come" and waiting "on average 2 hours for your food" despite a 90-minute time limit are significant pain points highlighted by customers. This can lead to frustration and a feeling of rushing through the meal.
Lacking Customer Service: Reviewers describe service as "lacking," with staff being "rude and annoyed" with requests. One particularly negative experience detailed a waiter's "horrible demeanor" and unwillingness to accommodate simple requests like extra lemons or water refills.
Crowded Atmosphere When Busy: The "cozy" interior can become "very claustrophobic when they’re busy," which might detract from the dining comfort.
Questionable Restroom Cleanliness: A severe issue reported was "HORRIBLE" and "disgusting" bathrooms, indicating a lack of proper maintenance and hygiene.
Vanilla Fish's primary "promotion" is its all-you-can-eat (AYCE) model itself, which offers a fixed price for unlimited sushi and selected menu items. The additional incentive of a "pay w/ cash discount" further enhances this offer, making it more attractive to budget-conscious diners. While specific, limited-time promotions beyond the inherent AYCE pricing are not detailed in the provided information, it is common for AYCE sushi restaurants to have varying price tiers for lunch versus dinner, or for weekdays versus weekends. It is always advisable for interested patrons to contact Vanilla Fish directly by phone to confirm current AYCE pricing, any specific limitations (e.g., on sashimi), and whether other specials or discounts might be available. Checking their website or popular food delivery apps might also provide insights into current pricing structures or potential third-party deals.
If you're considering a visit to Vanilla Fish for their AYCE sushi, here's how you can get in touch:

Phone: (951) 777-1950
For residents across the California region, particularly those in Riverside looking for an all-you-can-eat sushi experience, Vanilla Fish presents itself as an option, primarily due to its affordability. The "good price" for AYCE, especially with the added "pay w/ cash discount," makes it an attractive choice for individuals or groups looking to enjoy a substantial amount of sushi without a high price tag. Its location within the well-known Canyon Crest Towne Centre also offers convenient accessibility and parking for locals. However, for locals considering this spot, it's important to set expectations based on a full picture. While the concept of AYCE is appealing for quantity, potential patrons should be aware of past customer experiences that cite issues such as inconsistent food temperature, particularly for sushi, and significantly long wait times for food despite a strict "90 mins time limit." Furthermore, reports of lacking customer service and less-than-ideal restroom cleanliness suggest that while the price point may be a draw, the overall dining comfort and experience might vary. For those whose priority is to consume a large volume of sushi at a competitive price and who are prepared to manage potential service and timing challenges, Vanilla Fish could be a suitable option in Riverside. However, for a consistently high-quality experience with impeccable service and fresh, perfectly chilled sushi, locals might need to weigh their options carefully.

Vanilla Fish Reviews
I don't even know where to start with what a bad experience we had here. We came for lunch shortly after they opened, and First of all the sushi was room temperature, practically warm. Sushi should be cold and refreshing but I literally had to choke down warm salmon. I did notice the sushi chef keeps the door to the sushi open at all times (even when slow) so that is why it's warm. Not sure how safe that is. I asked the waiter if they could possibly put my peices of salmon in a fridge to get them cold. He was very rude and annoyed with this request (which I understand might seem like an annoying request.. but who wants warm sushi??) He seemed so bothered and upset with my request my fiance finally said if it's a problem we can cancel the rest of the food and just leave.. without a word he walked off with my salmon. We saw him and the sushi chef angrily talking about my request and finally put my salmon in a fridge. He brought it back to me maybe 7 minutes later still room temp. Every thing we asked for was greeted with that horrible demeanor. There was only one other table in the restaurant (should have taken that as a sign) so he wasn't busy, but still acted like I was asking for an arm and a leg when I needed a side of Lemons. I was so uncomfortable with his attitude I felt uncomfortable asking for a refill on my empty water and ended up just sharing my fiances water.Lastly, the bathrooms were HORRIBLE. idk how they could possibly be so bad first thing in the afternoon unless they are just simply not being taken care of. Pee all over the seat, no seat protectors no paper towels. It was so disgusting we held it until we could leave and go next door.I have never had a worse experience. DONT RISK IT.!
May 27, 2025 · kendra livingstoneA place that you keep going back to since the price is good (with the pay w/ cash discount) but hate since the service can be lacking and the food taking forever to come. Their time limit of 90 mins is the entire duration to barely getting your second round. The interior is very cozy but very claustrophobic when they’re busy (which is very annoying). Food and price is good, but having to wait on average 2 hours for your food sucks
Apr 18, 2025 · Aaron “Obsolete Dude” NonI have been going here about 1 time a week for the last 2 months. The food is great. I love sitting at the bar the best but the the tables are nice also. The price is great for everything you get. I love the special limited items. Soooo tasty. I have been to all the sushi places around and by far vanilla fish is my favorite. The owner is a nice guy and his staff
May 22, 2023 · Johnny GomezWe had a bad experience with customer service in our last visit. We decided to give it another shot and went for lunch. We went in at 1:15pm with lunch ending at 2:30pm. Unfortunately, when we arrived, We were told that we couldn’t dine because they ran out of salmon and they close at 2pm. Frustrating experience after having driven 15-20 minutes with my family and kids. I highly recommend other sushi places over this one.
Feb 08, 2025 · David OhVery VERY impressed with the quality of the sushi here. All you can eat is on the pricier for dinner and weekends ($38 at this time) but definitely worth it! The AYCE offers a lot of variety and even a couple of “unique” options, just with limits of how many of those unique options you can get. I have not been disappointed coming here yet. One word of caution before you come, check the times they are open. They close for a couple of hours between lunch and dinner. They are very strict and will not seat you within ~ 45 minutes of closing.Overall definitely recommend!
