Wako Donkatsu stands out in the Los Angeles culinary scene due to its unwavering commitment to quality and a distinctive dining experience. Here are some of its most celebrated features:
- The Best Katsu in LA: Multiple customers confidently proclaim Wako Donkatsu offers the "best chicken katsu in LA" and "best tonkatsu, or might I say Donkasu, I've ever had." This reputation is built on perfectly crispy exteriors and succulent, juicy interiors.

- Generous Portions: Patrons frequently highlight the "HUGE" and "generous portions," with many noting that a single plate can easily make two meals. This provides excellent value for the price.

Sides like the "perfect" rice, fresh cabbage salad with unique dressing, kimchi radish, and pickled jalapeño are consistently praised.

- Diverse Menu: Beyond the famous pork and chicken katsu, Wako Donkatsu offers a variety of fried cutlets including fish, New York steak beef, hamburger, and cheese pork. They also have curry options (pork and chicken), noodle dishes (Yakisoba, Spicy Yaki Udon, U-Dong Soup, Cold Soba), and combo plates that include potato balls and shrimp. Eel over rice and pork over rice are also available.
- Consistent Quality: Despite its long-standing presence (over 25 years according to some sources), customers report consistent quality, making it a reliable choice for a satisfying katsu meal.
- Attentive and Friendly Service: The staff is consistently described as friendly, polite, and providing great service, contributing to a warm and inviting atmosphere.
While specific daily or seasonal promotions might vary, Wako Donkatsu, like many popular local eateries, offers incentives to its loyal customer base. Based on customer insights and common restaurant practices, here are potential promotions:
- Yelp Check-in Offer: A past promotion mentioned a free potato ball for Yelp check-ins, suggesting they occasionally offer in-store specials for customer engagement.
- Combo Meals: Their "Combination Cutlet" options are a form of value promotion, bundling different cutlets with sides like potato ball and shrimp, often providing better value than ordering items separately.
- Lunchtime Value: While not explicitly stated as "specials" in all sources, their pricing combined with generous portions makes them a very strong contender for a satisfying and reasonably priced lunch.

May 13, 2025 · sarah guessousDelicious! A little pricey, but since I don't eat a lot, I was able to Mahe two meals out of it. I got the pork cutlet, the wife got the chicken katsu. Hers was double the amount of chicken than my pork.
Apr 20, 2025 · Raymond ChaconFirst time trying this place. I ordered the Pork Katsu with Curry. It was good. The pork was amazingly tender! The curry could have been a touch spicier, but was still enjoyable. The miso soup was above average. My wife got the Katsu Pork combo. She liked it.We also split a cold soba. It was good, but I think we added a bit to much radish to our dipping sauce. Despite that it was tasty. The service was good and they were helpful.Overall, this place was better than we expected. We will be back
Nov 10, 2024 · Chris ShaulWe visited this place 2 years since last visit. It was always our togo Donkatsu spot, but what a huge disappointment we had this time. We ordered Donkatsu sets and New York Steak Katsu sets. The meat texture was not pleasant- tasted like they used ground beef and pork. The service was not good as well, the man who seemed to be an owner was busy to talk with another server, explaining her how they could collect good tips. No one cared about our table, the server just tossed us a bill. It was quite empty for weekends and there were enough people to take care of customers. I don’t think we will go back to this place again.
May 27, 2025 · Yoo Jin JeongThe sauce and crispy pork katsu are incredibly delicious, and I feel alive. If you have to try something new this place is worth your time checking out. 10/10
