Wasabi Korean & Japanese Restaurant Introduce
For residents and visitors in Michigan, particularly in the vibrant Midtown area of Detroit, Wasabi Korean & Japanese Restaurant offers a diverse culinary journey through the flavors of East Asia. Situated on East Kirby Street, this establishment aims to provide a comprehensive menu that blends beloved Japanese and Korean dishes, from classic sushi and sashimi to hearty bibimbap and savory noodle soups. It positions itself as a convenient spot for quality Asian cuisine, catering to a wide array of tastes and preferences.
Wasabi Korean & Japanese Restaurant boasts an expansive menu, allowing diners to explore a multitude of options. From appetizers like gyoza and tempura to a full selection of sushi rolls (including both raw and cooked options), nigiri, and sashimi, Japanese favorites are well-represented. On the Korean side, guests can find comforting dishes such as various bibimbap options, traditional soups like Sundoobu and Yookkejang, and spicy Korean staples like Tteokbokki. This fusion approach ensures that there's often something for everyone, whether they're craving sushi, ramen, or a flavorful Korean entree.
Customer experiences with Wasabi Korean & Japanese Restaurant appear to be varied, highlighting both strengths and areas for potential improvement. One positive review enthusiastically stated, "The seafood bibimbap was great and was a large portion. It's really nice to have some quality Korean cuisine in the midtown area. The menu is expansive and has most of the favorites." This suggests that for many, Wasabi successfully delivers on its promise of quality Korean food with generous portions. Another reviewer lauded the "generous portion sizes and friendly service," calling Wasabi a "go-to spot for sushi and bibimbap in Detroit" and praising it as a "more affordable alternative" to upscale sushi places. They also noted "knowledgeable staff and skillful sushi chef's."
However, some diners have reported less favorable experiences. One review expressed strong dissatisfaction, noting that "The fried rice was full of chicken bones, tendons, and skin." Another criticized the quality of certain dishes, stating, "Teriyaki sauce was poured out of a jar from some discount Asian food outlet- not homemade and closer to barbecue sauce than teriyaki. The salad was drenched in sauce to the point that everything was soggy. Egg rolls soggy and limp. This all cost $80. Absolutely never again." Such contrasting feedback indicates that while some customers find great value and quality in specific dishes, consistency in preparation and ingredient quality across the entire menu might be an area for the restaurant to focus on to ensure a universally positive dining experience for all Michigan patrons.

Apr 23, 2025 · Davidde A. StellaWow. Exactly what I needed. I started eating before I thought to take photos, but these dishes looked, smelled, and tasted so good. We got 3 dishes to go - japchae, bibimbap, and spicy pork. The first two were my orders - and they were so good. I love Korean food and have been trying to find a place near me that offers it at a quality I love, and I'm very happy that Wasabi exists. We've been here once before and had a great time, and it almost seems like the food has gotten better since.
