Yamato Japanese Restaurant Reviews
I’ve enjoyed eating at Yamato for years. I would call it a traditional restaurant, as you won’t find. Teppanyaki the sushi is great and more traditional, and if you want to have the day and a day out Japanese food like katsudon, or sukiyaki, you’ve definitely come to the right place. This is Tucson, not Tokyo, but I have never been disappointed. They make the best katsudon or futumaki in Tucson and a lot more besides. I have not had everything on the menu, but what I have had I loved. It is a small facility, so you will find reservations necessary. I can’t say enough about Yamato.

May 31, 2025 · Allison ButtramAs NYC-ers with high sushi standards we were totally impressed. Unagi and spicy tuna handroll were outstanding. Great service and cosy, unassuming environment.
Mar 05, 2025 · AanikaI drove 40 minutes at rush hour to Yamato only to be greeted by a sign on the door saying “dine in tonight by reservation only.” As a single diner who had noted that there are seats at the bar, I asked if it applied to me as well, and was told “Yes.” It would be helpful if the restaurant added a note to its Google profile that reservations are required, or at least recommended, to prevent such disappointment.
