The restaurant's location offers good accessibility within San Francisco. Public transportation is readily available, with several MUNI bus lines operating in the Financial District and surrounding areas, providing easy access from various parts of the city. Yo Yo's specializes in delivering comforting and flavorful Japanese dishes, perfect for a satisfying meal. Their menu, while focused, is highly praised for its quality and value. Key offerings include:
Daily Specials, including Curry Chicken: A popular highlight is their daily special, often featuring a delicious chicken curry. This dish typically comes with two well-seasoned and grilled quarter chicken legs, an egg, fresh vegetables, and generous portions of rice. Customers describe the curry as "very tasty and not spicy at all," making it approachable for a wide range of palates. They are also known for an Indonesian-style Beef Curry on Mondays.
Udon Noodles: Yo Yo's is highly celebrated for its udon soup. Diners can enjoy hearty bowls of udon, with reviews mentioning that the noodles are on the thinner side, and the broth leans towards savory, providing a filling and delicious meal. You can often get various additions like chicken, beef, or vegetables.
Sushi Rolls: Despite being a small shop primarily known for its hot dishes, Yo Yo's also offers simple sushi rolls like California Roll, Smoked Salmon Roll, Unagi Roll, and Vegetable Rolls (avocado, cucumber & spinach). These are praised as quick, affordable, and tasty options.
Teriyaki Dishes: Expect classic Japanese staples like Chicken Teriyaki, served with rice and a side salad. These are noted for being juicy and flavorful.
Appetizers & Sides: The menu includes popular Japanese appetizers such as Edamame, Gyoza (potstickers), and Seaweed Salad.
Desserts: For a sweet finish, they offer Mochi Ice Cream (in various flavors like red bean, mango, vanilla, strawberry) and Green Tea Cheesecake.
Takeout Focused Service: Yo Yo's operates primarily as a small, counter-service establishment with limited seating, making it an ideal choice for quick take-out meals. This setup contributes to its efficiency and affordability.
Yo Yo's has garnered a loyal following for several distinctive features that set it apart:
Incredibly Friendly and Welcoming Owners: This is arguably the most consistent and praised feature of Yo Yo's. The husband and wife duo who run the shop are renowned for their exceptional kindness, warmth, and friendly demeanor. Customers often feel like family, and their hospitality significantly enhances the dining experience.
Outstanding Value and Affordability: In a city where dining out can be expensive, Yo Yo's offers "real value" and "reasonable prices" for generous and delicious meals. Many reviews highlight the affordability as a key reason for their frequent visits.
Delicious and Hearty Comfort Food: Their dishes, particularly the chicken curry and udon, are consistently praised for being tasty, filling, and comforting. The quality of the chicken in the curry and the flavor of the udon broth are frequently mentioned.
Quick and Efficient Service: Despite being a small operation and often having lines, Yo Yo's is known for its fast and efficient service, making it perfect for a quick lunch break.
"Cash or Venmo Only" Payment: This is a distinctive operational detail, meaning customers should be prepared with these payment methods. It contributes to the efficient, no-frills, community-focused business model.
Small, Quaint Shop Atmosphere: The intimate size of the shop adds to its charm. While seating is limited, it reinforces the cozy, local, "mom-and-pop" feel.
Yo Yo's operates on a philosophy of consistent value rather than flash sales. Their primary "promotion" is their everyday commitment to providing delicious food at "real value" and "affordable prices." For example, their udon is noted to be around $9.50, which is considered highly reasonable for a filling meal in San Francisco. They also feature a "daily special," which often highlights popular dishes like their chicken curry. It's always a good idea to check with the friendly owners when you visit about the specific daily special and any other rotating items on offer, as these are often the best deals for a satisfying and tasty meal.

Aug 28, 2024 路 Jesse LeeReal value here for a simple, delicious meal. I ordered one order of the udon and it came out to only $9.50. The meal was filling and tasted good. The udon was on the thinner side and it leaned towards the salty side but I enjoyed my meal. The owners were pleasant and super friendly.
Dec 07, 2024 路 GrazeradinfinitumYo Yo鈥檚 is such a wonderful neighborhood, hole-in-the-wall place to get absolutely delicious Japanese curries, udon, and teriyaki chicken. My favorite dish, their beef curry, is available only on Mondays and Thursdays, and is absolutely worth making a special trip. It has a piece of tofu, potato, hard boiled egg, and tender, slow cooked pieces of beef on top of a bed of white or brown rice. It is spicy, which I love! The husband and wife team who run the business and make all of the food could not be sweeter. They remember your name, your preferences, and make it feel like you are getting a home cooked meal from family. The prices are also very reasonable for the quantity and quality of food you get. A total gem!
May 25, 2025 路 Alexander CoughlinYoyo鈥檚 is a San Francisco gem! This mom & pop shop with the best deal around. I get their hot soba soup almost weekly. They have kept the staff of the Exploratorium well fed for over a decade and are always happy to meet new guests.
Mar 21, 2025 路 Cael Hazard (Exploratorium AV)You don't often find a place as special as YoYo's. Stellar quality food at lovely prices. A perfect meal to share with friends and family. But the most remarkable feature of this establishment is the Couple that runs it! I feel like family in a city that is brand new to me. The Soba is my absolute favorite! Udon is great and if you like a little spice, try the curries! Need a Snack? Grab some sushi rolls or dumplings! The soup in the udon and soba is among the best I've had, just like Grandma's cooking. They must call it YoYo's because like the eponymously named toy, I keep coming back! 馃獉
