Whether it's the "Fried Jalapeño" tapas or other creative concoctions, the menu encourages exploration and communal dining, making it ideal for various occasions.
What truly solidifies Totoya's standing as a local gem, however, is the consistency of its experience. Long-time patrons attest to "coming here for years" and consistently having an "incredible experience." The "delightful atmosphere," enhanced by the option of outdoor seating, adds another layer to the overall enjoyment. While reservations are strongly recommended, especially on weekends, the willingness of the team to accommodate walk-ins when possible further underscores their customer-first approach.

Totoya Sushi & Tapas Reviews
Note: reservations are a must during the weekend! We decided to go there on a whim after a great massage next door and we're lucky enough a different party didn't show up to their reservation. We waited outside while one of the servers/hostess figured out somethings. Communication could have been better but alas we were seated and promptly served. Food was delicious! The Totoya roll is a must, it just melts. The salmon skin hand roll was super crunchy, caterpillar and eel and avocado rolls were smooth and velvety. Not too pricey but we also didn't order alcohol.

The food is delicious, the service is kind and friendly and the atmosphere is delightful (we enjoy sitting outside). Reservations are recommended however we walked in at 5pm when they opened and they were happy to accommodate us. I personally enjoy the Marbella Roll and the Fried Jalapeño tapas.

Jun 23, 2024 · Cheryl NasserI really love this place. Some of the sushi is a bit overpriced (crispy tuna cakes) but overall the sushi is really well priced and absolutely delicious. It is our go to and I’m always happy to come here. Especially the lunch specials- a nice mix of roll and nigiri or sashimi and soup and salad. So happy they’re in my hood.
Feb 02, 2025 · Diane MicheilTotoya has become my wife and my favorite sushi spot. Try their Gyoza. It’s our favorite appetizer. I like the sushi sampler while my wife likes the rolls. Her favorites are the Fiesta rolls, Marbella, and caterpillar roll. The ambiance is great there but the place is small. Sitting outside is the best is the weather is right which it usually is in San Juan Capistrano. I like this spot even better than Gen Kai in Dana Point which is our friend’s favorite spot. Been to both. This place way better! 😁
