Igeta Shoyu, a century-old brewery in Shimane Prefecture, has produced this vintage soy sauce using its traditional methods since its establishment in 1912. Weary of the various gummy snacks and candies her children were often asking for, Mika sought to create a snack that did not have excessive sugar, artificial flavors, chemical stabilizers, and animal products. The more she learned about how gelatin was the foundation of most chewy snacks, and the more she learned where gelatin came from (boiled animal skin), the more she was convinced that there had to be better options for treats. So she created a simple, pure, and natural snack - small bite-sized versions of the mochi desserts she grew up within Japan - and infused a diversity of natural flavors. Her kids loved it. Their friends loved it. And Mochi Gummies were born. Mochi Gummies are vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, nut-free, and gelatin-free.

Crafted with a very champagne-like approach, this sake is comprised of 3 different rice varietals milled to 35%, 5 different yeasts, and a variety of blending techniques before it is aged. The result is a complex, lively brew that is truly unique. The making of IWA 5 is not a stable recipe but an experimental process reconsidered every year, making this daiginjo rest at the top of our 'don't miss' list! junmai daiginjo 720ml
- Ohmine "3 Grain" Omachi US$59.80
At the 14th Omachi Summit in 2023, a highly acclaimed event featuring sake made from 121 breweries and 206 brands of "Omachi" rice from Okayama Prefecture, two sake varieties from Ohmine Shuzou "Ohmine 2-Grain Omachi" and "Ohmine 3-Grain Omachi," each received the Excellence Award. This marks the second consecutive year of receiving this prestigious award. In chilled temperatures, the moment this sake touches your mouth, there's a very gentle attack with the aroma of grape and lychee, and from the middle to the end, a juicy richness reminiscent of yellow peaches expands. When warmed, you can enjoy a soft fragrance reminiscent of Japanese raw sugar ('wasanbon') and its sweetness. The production is limited, so grab this special sake while you can! Junmai Daiginjo 720ml

- Miyoshino Jozo Hanatomoe Mizumoto US$44.85
Fourth-generation kuramoto Hashimoto Teruaki became the tōji at Miyoshino Jōzō in 2008, and has since turned it into one of Japan’s most innovative and creative breweries. Hashimoto sees sake brewing as part of the local agriculture, working closely with nearby farmers and adjusting his sake to the rice they grow, not the other way around, as it is in most breweries. Brewing methods are very creative and rely entirely on natural yeast, with an ethos of “helping” nature do its work. The resulting sake is full-bodied, layered, rich in umami and acidity. The name "Mizumoto" refers to the pre-modern brewing method (invented 1000 years ago by Buddhist brewing monks) which begins with a naturally sour water from raw rice, water, and lactic acid bacteria in the air. This method is particularly well suited to the damp, humid conditions in Nara, where the method originated. Junmai Muroka Namagenshu Mizumoto 720ml
- Ginga Shizuku 'Divine Droplets' US$110.40
Flawless yet incredibly persistent. The purity of the region of Yamagata shines in this sake, with the crispness of their pristine water, the grassy, spicy quality of dewasansan rice, and the opulent textures derived from shizuku free run finishing. Junmai Daiginjo 720ml
- Heiwa Shuzo Tsuru Ume Ichigo US$54.05
Who said you can't drink your dessert? Using the fuzzy pink umeshu as a base and adding fresh Wakayama strawberries from local farms, the result is a strawberry jam delight in a pour. For several days, strawberries are macerated to extract the most premium juicy, berry flavor. The result is a delight for the senses: a deep red color, an aroma of strawberry syrup, and a flavor that is surprisingly tangy, and not overly sweet. Plum Sake with Strawberry Juice 720ml
- Suehiro Kira US$48.30
This is a very rich and dry sake. Snappy notes of citrus and toasted grain, with a bit of creamy yogurt. Honjozo 720ml
- Terada Honke "Musubi" US$44.85
Musubi is the first brown rice sake that Terada Honke has succeeded in commercializing after seven long years of research & development into effective techniques to brew sake from sprouted brown rice. It tastes sour and has a characteristic smell similar to the fermented rice bran used for pickling known as nukazuke. Intensely funky, like a natural wine or a sour beer, this is a living, breathing bottle of sake. There is some carbonation present, so use caution when opening. If you're a fan of natural wine, you MUST try this sake! Hatsuga-genmai 720ml
- Houou Biden "Asahi Mai US$44.85
Crafted with the rare and ancient Asahi rice from Okayama Prefecture, this Junmai Daiginjo by Houou Biden exemplifies both tradition and precision. The flavor remains stable when cooled, ensuring a consistent and high-quality experience in every glass. Junmai Daiginjo 720ml
- Daishinsyu "Equilibrium" US$170.20
A luxurious sake from a well-honored brewery in Nagano, Japan, whose first Toji has been called the “father” of sake brewing. Nagano is an area prized for air and water quality that are optimal for sake rice growing. The brewery is proud of their extreme precision in sake making and refusal to rely on technology - instead they depend on generations of intuition. Daishinsyu is one of the most coveted brands in Japan, particularly in the Tokyo region. This incredibly balanced sake highlights the craftsmanship and skills of its renowned brewers, with a polish rate of just 38%. Elegant, luscious and balanced with aromas of pineapple, rose & coconut cream. 720ml Junmai Daiginjo
- Tenbi Tokubetsu Junmai US$48.30
A new selection from one of our new favorite breweries! This is a fun, modern style brew with lots of bubbly liveliness, clean fruit flavors, and a hint of the umami that is normally the prevalent flavor in sakes from this region. This is a GREAT bottle to keep in the fridge and drink from for a while (if it lasts that long!) as it 'oxidizes' really well and stays delicious for a long time. Tokubetsu Junmai 720ml
- Ohmine "Winter's Arrival" US$73.60
Ohmineʼ s Winterʼ s Arrival Cloudy, introduces “assemblage” ‒ brewed with a blend of Omachi, Aiyama and Yamadanishiki. The recipe (allocation of each rice) changes year to year to achieve their ideal taste. In the tank of this sake, Ohmine adds the fermenting Yamadanishiki rice, which adds a touch of bubbliness. Silky lactic acid tastes of yogurt and burrata cheese are present, and the finish is sweet, like Wasanbon (fine-grained traditional Japanese sugar). Junmai Nigori 720ml
- Kawatsuru 'Crane Of Paradise' US$46.00
Kawatsuru translates to “river crane” and comes from the sighting of a crane in the river behind the brewery. Crane of Paradise is described as “umakuchi,” a combination between sweet, dry and umami flavors. Juicy notes of grapefruit and freshly cut grass, with a hint of salted pineapple. Crisp, dry finish with an almost effervescent energy behind it. Junmai 720ml
- Abe Junmai Daiginjo Limited "Koshi Kagura" US$110.40
Founded in 1804 in Niigata prefectura, Abe takes on the challenge of brewing sake every day with the motto of "enjoying fermentation, enjoying what we want to make without sparing time and effort based on curiosity, and creating 'overwhelmingly good' sake". This time, the very popular "Gold" from Abe Shuzo has appeared. This Junmai Daiginjo sake is rich in both appearance and taste. It is brewed using sake rice "Koshi Kagura" born in Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, whose parents are "Yamada Nishiki" and "Hokuriku No. 174." Abe Shuzo, which is particular about local rice, polishes this rice to 45% to create a fragrant and fruity sake that is rare in the Abe series. junmai daiginjo 720ml
- Wakaze Junmai "Whisky Barrel" US$82.80
Made from French rice, water and yeast. Aged 60 days in whisky barrels which gives complex woody aromas and apricot flavor. Fermented with the additional of Classic Wakaze (Junmai) instead of water. Junmai 720ml
- Iwa 5 'Assemblage 4' US$276.00
Iwa Sake is led by Richard Geoffroy, who was the face of Dom Perignon for 28 years, and left his high profile position to begin creating his unique vision of sake.
- Brooklyn Kura "Tidal" US$33.35
Made with 100% Calrose rice produced in California, Tidal is a medium bodied and dry expression of the category. By blending two modern Junmai sakes, the resulting sake offers depth and complexity with both fruit and rice notes. Named for the ebb and flow of tides, Tidal embodies the connection between earth and water, celebrating the harmony and strength found in every cycle. Junmai 750ml Bottle
- Kuheiji Kurodasho 'Fukuji' US$161.00
This is another masterpiece Junmai Daiginjo from Kuheiji that is very different from Tako, with a fruity aroma reminiscent of melon and white peach, a soft acidity, a smoky minerality, a creamy mouthfeel, and a wonderful balance of rice flavor. A terroir-specific Yamadanishiki sake, using rice grown by the brewery and then transformed into sake by the same hands. This continuity is a given in the wine world, but a huge undertaking and innovative commitment to product in the sake world. Junmai Daiginjo 720ml Junmai Daiginjo
- Tatenokawa 'Nehan' US$454.25
From the famously daiginjo-only sake brewery comes a new line of sake, employing the recently revived rice “Soubei Wase” , which contributes to the unique flavor of this sake. It took over three years to revive this rice variety which was originally native to the Shonai Region; it is the parent of legendary heirloom rice strain “Kame no O”. This sake has a gentle and delicate floral aroma and a soft sweetness. Soubei Wase does not have the ‘flashiness’ of more recently developed sake rice; rather, it gives you a sense of refined rustic beauty. The charm and taste this historic sake rice provides will deepen and mature over time, and thus sake made from it are excellent for aging. Junmai Daiginjo 720ml
- Akishika Shuzo Omachi US$51.75
Notes: Most sake brewers buy their rice – some from contracted farmers, most from unknown sources. “From our own fields to bottle” is the motto of Akishika Shuzō, where 6th-generation kuramoto Oku Hiroaki made a decision to take the brewery as close as it gets to being self-sustained for rice production. At present, the brewery farms 25 hectares of biodynamically grown rice, sacrificing high yields for superior quality and taste. Breaking with the production methods of postwar Japan and going against the trend of the time, Oku-san was one of the initial pioneers of junmaishu, sake made without any additives; and in 2009, he achieved the goal of the brewery’s entire production being made that way. Akishika ages a big part of their production until it reaches perfect drinking condition, allowing them to offer an unrivaled variety of matured sake. It smells and drinks wildly complex and savory, with notes of sweet, savory and smoke throughout. Junmai Yamahai Namagenshu 720ml
- Kikusui 'Kuramitsu' US$287.50
Made from 100% Kikusui Rice grown in Niigata polished down to just 23%, this super-premium sake has won multiple awards year over year. Highly aromatic and wonderfully smooth, this sake refinement in a glass - Kikusui put everything they've learned in their 130 years of sake brewing to make this the best, and it shows! Elegant, sophisticated aromas and rich, tropical fruit blend together seamlessly. 720ml Junmai Daiginjo

Sake: Half Bottles
- Hakkaisan "Awa" Sparkling US$56.35
In preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Hakkaisan Brewery Company introduced “Awa” Clear Sparkling as an alternative for champagne. Meaning “bubbles” in Japanese, Awa is produced through a secondary fermentation taking place inside the bottle, similar to traditional champagne. After being disgorged, it is perfectly clear, with small bubbles and fine aromas. This sparkler drinks like Champagne, but is much less acidic. It is soft and gentle, with lots of melon, spice and rice flavors. Hakkaisan's most unique sake, perfect for that special occasion when you need something a little extra! Sparkling Junmai Ginjo 360ml
- Kubota JDG US$24.15
Kubota revamped this junmai daiginjo in honor of its 35th anniversary, and this is a sake worth celebrating! A vibrant nose full of fruit and flowers is followed by a round, clean presence on the palate. It drinks dry, but lots of stone fruit flavors come through with a hint of sweetness at the end. A beautiful sake at a great price! Junmai Daiginjo 300ml bottle
- Kikumasamune "Shiboritate" Koujo US$16.10
Brewed using yeast Kikumasamune's own developed yeast HA14, which brings out the fruity Ginjo characteristics without milling the rice to Ginjo standards, this is a delightful departure from your average junmai. It drinks lightly fruity, clean and dry with notes of green apple, cucumber, herbs. Junmai Namachozo 300ml
- Heiwa Shuzo "KID" Junmai Daiginjo US$27.60
One word sums up this sake: special. This sake is just bursting with so many fresh fruit aromas and flavors. Notes of tropical fruits and flower blossoms abound in the nose. The sake drinks plump and juicy, and carries more ripe fruits like melon, lychee, and banana, with a strong herbal presence. As big and fruity as this sake is, the finish is where the magic happens - for such a big, complex sake, the finish is beautifully clean. Junmai Daiginjo 300ml
- Dassai Blue Type 35 US$34.50
Made from Yamadishiki rice grown in Arkansas, this is currently the only sake in the 'Blue' series that is made from American grown rice. To us, it was our favorite - the most interesting brew in the lineup. Creamy and full-bodied, there is a lot of fruit, but it is balanced by some acidity and minerality that we didn't find in their sakes with Japanese grown rice. 375ml Junmai Daiginjo
- Suigei Drunken Whale US$21.85
Drunken Whale is not just a great name, but a crisp, dry, and mineral-driven sake that is truly refreshing. Drink this chilled with fresh oysters, sashimi, or tempura for an easy, focused pairing. Tokubetsu Junmai 300ml

Cafe Sushi Shoten Reviews
grabbed a takeout box for $18 and it was really good! the maki was generously filled and the nigiri were fresh and delicious. all the nigiri are paired with a small dot of a unique garnish which elevated them - i do wish there was more of the garnish on each piece to better appreciate the flavour pairings. would eat again!
May 21 · Katelyn LGreat sushi for the price. Went here because my neighbor raved about this place. The ssamjang was an interesting sauce, but some of my friends that like ssamjang did not like it on sushi. I would go again and pick up is easy. Accommodated an octopus allergy. Not the best sushi in Boston but best sushi for the price in Boston while maintaining quality and standards.
September 12 · D JGreat takeaway sushi place in Cambridge. Varieties of menu to picked from and the quality are as expected. The seating is a bit limited, but I found it not that hard to find a seat.
September 13 · Pitipat WongsittikanWe put in some work on this dinner . Great sake choices and sushi was awesome . We also had the whole fish. Rolled out of here and. We were the last table .Had a decent wait to get in but so worth it.Will be back !!!!!!
February 21 · Michael GabrielAfter slow service at the start, the sushi started appearing and it was most excellent. It’s better to order off the chef special menu than the standard sushi menu even though the latter are quite excellent. Noisy as other reviewers have noted.Updated: went back a second time. Service was excellent. Sushi was excellent. Hauntingly good in fact. This is now the go to for sushi for me.
