Upon entering Daruma North Sarasota, patrons are likely to be struck by its initial presentation, which suggests a high-end restaurant. The interior is often described as beautiful, contributing to an atmosphere that aims to be refined and sophisticated. This environment sets the stage for a dining experience that seeks to transcend the ordinary. The ambiance is designed to offer a pleasant escape, whether for a casual meal, a special occasion, or a business dinner. The decor and lighting choices contribute to a comfortable yet elegant setting, aiming to create a memorable impression on guests.
Regarding services, Daruma North Sarasota functions as both a Japanese steakhouse and a sushi lounge, offering a dual culinary focus. It's important for potential diners to note a particular characteristic regarding its steakhouse offerings: while it is branded as a Japanese steakhouse, the traditional hibachi cooking experience at a communal table is not typically available. Customer feedback indicates that this might be a point of clarification for those expecting the interactive hibachi show. The restaurant’s rationale, as relayed by some patrons, is that their chefs are highly trained and the food is to be savored without the theatrical element often associated with hibachi. This distinction is usually communicated once patrons are seated and have begun ordering drinks, with details often found at the bottom of the menu.
The culinary features of Daruma North Sarasota span a range of Japanese dishes, primarily focusing on steakhouse fare and sushi. The menu aims to cater to diverse palates, offering various preparations of meats and seafood. For instance, dishes like filet mignon and scallops are available, often prepared with a blend of Japanese flavors. However, some customer reviews indicate a consistent theme regarding the sweetness of the sauces used in certain dishes. For example, the filet mignon has been described as being served in a "soup of very sweet teriyaki sauce," and scallops similarly drenched in a "Miso sauce soup that was exceptionally sweet." This sweetness has, for some, overpowered the natural flavor of the main ingredients. Accompanying items like broccoli and rice have been noted by some diners as being flavorless. Tempura shrimp has also been mentioned, sometimes arriving as a standalone dish without additional accompaniments. Other dishes, such as vegetable medleys, have also been described as being excessively sweet due to the sauces.
Despite these observations, Daruma North Sarasota also receives positive feedback, particularly concerning its appetizers and sushi selections. Some customers have praised the "delicious appetizers," highlighting items like Japanese chicken yakitori, which was found to be "very tasty." The tempura crispy cauliflower has been described as "very good," and the tuna as "delicious." The presentation of the food, across various dishes, has been noted as "exquisite," indicating an attention to visual detail in their culinary offerings. This suggests that while some main courses might lean towards a sweeter profile, the appetizer and sushi portions of the menu can offer a different and perhaps more satisfying experience for some diners.
In terms of promotional information, while specific active promotions are not detailed in the provided reviews, the restaurant's very existence as a "Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Lounge" serves as its primary draw. Its location on Fruitville Road in Sarasota places it in an accessible area for local residents and visitors alike. The initial impression of a "high-end restaurant" and its "beautiful inside" environment could be considered a key promotional aspect, appealing to those looking for a more upscale or aesthetically pleasing dining venue. For platforms like "Doctor Near Me," which users might consult for various local services and amenities, Daruma North Sarasota fits as a dining option that offers a specific type of cuisine and ambiance. The lack of traditional hibachi might be seen as a feature distinguishing it from other Japanese steakhouses, either as a unique selling point or a point of consideration for potential customers.
It's important for potential patrons to weigh the diverse customer experiences when considering Daruma North Sarasota. While some have found the prices to be substantially higher than typical steakhouses and expressed disappointment with certain main courses due to the sweetness of sauces, others have highly recommended the appetizers and appreciated the overall presentation. This suggests that the dining experience can vary depending on individual preferences and menu choices. For those seeking a Japanese dining experience with a focus on aesthetically presented dishes and a sophisticated environment, particularly for appetizers and sushi, Daruma North Sarasota might be a suitable choice. However, those specifically looking for an interactive hibachi grill experience or traditional, less-sweet savory steakhouse fare might need to adjust their expectations or consider other options.

Daruma North Sarasota - Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Lounge Reviews
Daruma comes off as a high end resturant at first glance. And it is beautiful inside. However, unlike most Japanese steak houses, you can not get Hibachi at a table. Their excuse is the chefs are so highly trained that they must be observed to eat the food. You will not find this out until you get to your table and order drinks, and then the menu arrives and at the bottom it will state that you can not order the primary thing people come to a Japanese steak house for. At this point you are already committed to the experience because you have drinks.... and not wanting to ruin the evening you assume the other dishes will be good.I ordered filet minon and scallops. Needless to say it was the worst filet minon I have had. I ordered it med rare. It arrived in a soup of very sweet teriyaki sauce. You could not taste the meat, much less tell if it was rare as it was dripping in sauce. The scallops were equally drenched in a Miso sauce soup that was exceptionally sweet. The broccolli was flavorless, as was the rice. My sister ordered tempura shrimp, it arrived by itself with nothing. Everyone at our table... there were four of us..... were unhappy with their food. I actually could not tell you what one of my sisters ordered, but it looked like a vegetable medly covered in Miso sauce which she felt was way too sweet. Everyone thought the food was way too sweet and covered in sauces that killed any flavor of the main ingredient.Add to this the prices are substancially higher than a typical steak house. Learn from our mistake. For such an expensive dinner, you expect certain qulaity. We did not find it at Daruma.
Apr 21, 2025 · VidicusHad some delicious appetizers at this amazing Japanese Steakhouse. Ordered the Japanese chicken yakitori which was very tasty, the tempura crispy cauliflower was very good and the tuna was delicious. Presentation of all food was exquisite.

May 26, 2025 · jt richMy big knock is the limited sushi menu at the hibachi table. Also, the menu could use a little more flexibility overall. When I go to hibachi it is a special meal and I want what I want how I want it. That being said the chef was entertaining and the quality of the food was good. We were seated shortly after our reservation time so that was good. Overall I would recommend this place but understand there are some things you'll need to be prepared to adapt to.
Apr 13, 2025 · Ron HylandOur experience last Friday at Daruma was a “10”. Our party of five had the hibachi and the food was absolutely delicious. The service was fantastic. The price is more than reasonable and the portion sizes are a lot!. We’ve already been talking about going back and plan to soon. Thank you!
