GENJI

399 Post Rd W, Westport, CT 06880, USA

3.0
I became first aware of Genji Sushi as a brand after ordering on Uber Eats. They had a reasonably priced poke bowl at a buy one get one free special which I thought was incredibly economic. I ordered with the impression that I was going to get a decent poke bowl, rice and lettuce as a base, pickled onions, etc, and after some issues with the order supposedly being stolen by one of the many drivers Foo had attempted to pick up my order, I finally received it.What I eventually realized was that this "restaurant" was located in Whole Foods Market and what I got were very sad poke bowls which had about half of the items as described and mostly frozen, incredibly fishy salmon which I could not finish because of the taste.Funny enough, I checked the app about half an hour after my order and the restaurant was closed from taking requests from the app while still showing it was open through Google's information panel when looking up the restaurant. Not going to say that was due to the restaurants in ability to get the order to me, but I frankly don't think that they should be selling through any delivery app.Do not order from them online. If you are in a Whole Foods and really want grocery store sushi... head to your local ShopRite or Stop&Shop instead. - Albert Kraus

GENJI Introduce

For those in Connecticut, particularly within the Westport area, looking for a convenient option to satisfy their Japanese food cravings, Genji Sushi offers a range of pre-packaged sushi, poke bowls, and other Japanese-inspired items. Situated within the bustling environment of Whole Foods Market, Genji Sushi provides a quick and accessible way to enjoy sushi on the go. While it operates differently from a traditional sit-down restaurant, it serves a specific niche for shoppers seeking a ready-to-eat meal.

Genji Sushi has established a presence in Whole Foods Markets across the US and UK, focusing on providing "authentic sushi freshly rolled using sustainably sourced seafood and high-quality ingredients." For Connecticut residents who frequent Whole Foods in Westport, Genji offers an immediate solution for a quick lunch or dinner. It's important to understand that the experience here is akin to a grab-and-go counter within a grocery store rather than a full-service dining establishment, which influences the type of convenience and immediacy it provides for local consumers.

Location and Accessibility

Genji Sushi is located at 399 Post Road West, Westport, CT 06880, USA, specifically inside the Whole Foods Market. This location is a prime spot for accessibility, as Whole Foods Market is a well-known and frequently visited destination for many Connecticut residents, particularly in the Westport area.

The Post Road West location is easily reachable by car, and Whole Foods Market typically provides ample parking, making it convenient for shoppers to stop by. Being inside the grocery store means that Genji Sushi is accessible during Whole Foods' operating hours, which are generally from 8 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week. This integration within a larger retail environment makes it a highly convenient option for those already shopping for groceries or looking for a quick meal solution while on the go in Westport.

Services Offered

Genji Sushi, operating within Whole Foods Market, provides services tailored to the grab-and-go convenience model. It's designed for quick selection and purchase rather than a full-service dining experience. Here's a breakdown of the services typically offered:

  • In-Store Purchase: The primary service involves selecting pre-packaged sushi, poke bowls, and other Japanese-inspired items directly from their display within the Whole Foods Market. This allows customers to see the freshly prepared items and choose what they desire on the spot.
  • Prepared Meals: Genji focuses on offering a variety of ready-to-eat options. This includes a wide selection of sushi rolls (like California Roll, Spicy Tuna Avocado Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll), Nigiri and Sashimi combos, poke bowls (such as Lomi Poke Bowl and Aloha Poke Bowl), and other hot and cold Japanese-inspired dishes.
  • Online Ordering/Delivery (via Third-Party Apps): Genji Sushi is available for delivery through third-party platforms like Uber Eats. While this offers convenience, it's important to note that customer experiences with delivery from this type of vendor can vary, as some reviews suggest potential issues with order accuracy or driver coordination.
  • Catering/Platter Orders: Genji offers various sushi platters for catering, suitable for events or gatherings. These platters, such as the Family Platter, Vegetable Platter, and Signature Platter, can be ordered, typically requiring advance notice (e.g., 24 hours). This allows customers to get larger quantities of their sushi for parties or family meals.
  • Sustainable Sourcing: Genji emphasizes its commitment to using sustainably sourced seafood and high-quality ingredients, which is a key aspect of their brand values.
Features / Highlights

Genji Sushi, as a brand operating within Whole Foods Market, has several features and highlights that distinguish its offering, particularly for Connecticut shoppers:

  • Convenient Location within Whole Foods: A primary highlight is its placement directly inside Whole Foods Market. This offers unparalleled convenience for shoppers who can pick up fresh sushi or a Japanese-inspired meal alongside their groceries, making it a time-saving option for busy locals.
  • Authentic Sushi Focus (Brand Claim): Genji aims to provide "authentic sushi freshly rolled," with an emphasis on "sustainably sourced seafood and high-quality ingredients." Their history as a former standalone Japanese restaurant in Philadelphia before partnering with Whole Foods supports their claims of a sushi background.
  • Wide Variety of Pre-Packaged Options: The display offers a broad selection of items, including various classic and specialty sushi rolls (e.g., Crunchy Tuna Roll, Spicy Shrimp Tempura Crunch Roll), Nigiri and Sashimi sets, and popular poke bowls. This allows for diverse choices based on individual preferences.
  • Availability of Hot and Cold Dishes: Beyond traditional sushi, Genji also provides hot rice bowls (like Tofu Teriyaki Rice Bowl and General Tso's Chicken Bowl) and other sides such as dumplings and salads, offering a comprehensive range of Japanese-inspired quick meals.
  • Emphasis on Sustainability: The brand highlights its commitment to sustainable sourcing for its seafood, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers in Connecticut.
  • Quick Meal Solution: For individuals looking for a fast and relatively healthy meal option without the wait of a traditional restaurant, Genji provides an immediate grab-and-go solution.
Promotions or Special Offers

Given that Genji Sushi operates as a brand within Whole Foods Market, promotions and special offers are often tied to either Genji's brand initiatives or Whole Foods Market's store-wide deals. While specific, ongoing promotions are not consistently advertised as they would be for a standalone restaurant, Connecticut residents can look for the following types of offers:

  • Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) Deals: As mentioned in a customer review, Genji has offered "buy one get one free" specials on items like poke bowls. These types of promotions are appealing for value-conscious buyers.
  • Seasonal or Limited-Time Offerings: Like many food brands, Genji may introduce seasonal sushi rolls or poke bowl variations, which can be seen as a special offering.
  • Whole Foods Market Promotions: Shoppers with Amazon Prime memberships, which are linked to Whole Foods, often receive exclusive discounts and deals on various items throughout the store, including potentially prepared foods like Genji Sushi. It's always worth checking the Whole Foods app or in-store signage for current promotions.
  • Delivery App Specials: When ordering through third-party delivery apps like Uber Eats, there might be platform-specific promotions, such as discounted delivery fees or percentage-off deals for new users or during specific promotional periods.

To stay informed about any current deals on Genji Sushi products, Connecticut consumers are encouraged to check the Whole Foods Market website or app, look for in-store signage, and browse the menus on delivery platforms. Direct communication from Genji Sushi as a separate entity for promotions is less common since its primary retail outlet is Whole Foods.
