Mido - Omakase Room

221 S 1st St, Brooklyn, NY 11211, USA

5.0
I came here for dinner one evening and had a great time. The inside of the omkase room is comfortable and casual, but still nice. There's a bar section, but also two booths for you to sit at if you choose. We ended up choosing to sit at their booths. We came at 7pm on a Wednesday evening and there was still plenty of space, so you could definitely do a walk-in here.We chose their original omakase set, which included 1 appetizer, 13 nigiri, and 1 kaisendon for $100. We also got a carafe of sake. Everything was great. My favorites of this omakase set were their botan ebi, miso black cod, and uni kaisendon. We also decided to follow up with an otoro handroll and uni nigiri. Loved those pieces and thought that they did them really well. This spot is more traditional (less innovative with their pieces/garnishes) and has a bigger focus on white fish. With each piece, we were shown a powerpoint and picture of the fish. Staff was great. Cool experience, and good omakase in Williamsburg! - Mia Huynh

Features / Highlights

Mido - Omakase Room stands out in the bustling New York culinary scene for several distinct features that contribute to its highly praised dining experience.

  • Authentic Traditional Omakase: Unlike some sushi establishments that blend traditional with modern, Mido focuses on a more traditional approach, emphasizing classic techniques and the inherent flavors of the fish. This appeals to purists and those seeking an unadulterated sushi experience.
  • High-Quality Fresh Fish: Customer reviews consistently rave about the freshness of the fish. This commitment to sourcing premium ingredients is paramount for an omakase experience, ensuring that each piece is of the highest quality. Mentions of "fresh fish" and excellent pieces like botan ebi and otoro handrolls reinforce this.
  • Professional and Patient Chef: The chef's expertise and demeanor are frequently highlighted. Guests appreciate the chef's professionalism and patience, indicating a welcoming and respectful atmosphere where questions are encouraged, and the art of sushi is shared.
  • Detailed Fish Descriptions: A unique and much-appreciated feature is the detailed explanation of each fish served during the omakase. The use of visual aids like PowerPoint and pictures elevates the dining experience, making it educational and engaging. This allows diners to truly understand and appreciate what they are eating.

  • Accessible Omakase Pricing: While omakase can often be prohibitively expensive in NYC, Mido offers an original omakase set including 1 appetizer, 13 nigiri, and 1 kaisendon for $100. This makes a high-quality omakase experience more accessible to a broader range of New Yorkers.
  • Focus on White Fish: Patrons have noted a particular focus on white fish, which can be a highlight for those who appreciate the subtle nuances and delicate textures of these varieties in traditional sushi.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a dedicated omakase establishment, Mido - Omakase Room's pricing structure is typically set for its multi-course experiences rather than offering rotating daily deals in the traditional sense. However, the inherent value of their core offering, particularly the $100 omakase set, can be seen as an ongoing "special" in the context of New York City's high-end sushi market.

Given their focused concept, specific discount promotions like "buy one get one free" or large percentage off deals are less common. Instead, the value lies in:

  • Competitive Omakase Pricing: The original omakase set at $100 (including an appetizer, 13 nigiri, and a kaisendon) is, in itself, a significant draw for a high-quality omakase experience in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, especially considering the freshness of the fish and the detailed presentation. This pricing makes a premium sushi experience more attainable for New Yorkers.
  • Seasonal Ingredient Focus: While not a "promotion" in the typical sense, the ever-changing nature of the omakase menu based on the freshest seasonal ingredients ensures that each visit offers a unique and high-value culinary journey. This continuous refreshing of the menu provides an intrinsic value that keeps patrons returning.

New Yorkers interested in any potential seasonal or special event menus should consider checking Mido - Omakase Room's official online presence or contacting them directly. For an establishment focused on the omakase experience, the best "promotion" is often the consistently high quality and value of their standard offering.
