Musashiya Introduce
For those in California craving an authentic taste of everyday Japanese cuisine, sometimes the best discoveries are found within unexpected places. In San Diego, Musashiya, nestled inside the renowned Mitsuwa Marketplace, offers a delightful and convenient Japanese dining experience. Specializing in hearty udon and soba noodle dishes, along with a range of comforting rice bowls and traditional Japanese sets, Musashiya provides a genuine flavor of Japan without the fuss. It's a go-to spot for locals seeking quick service, savory broths, and classic Japanese comfort food amidst their grocery run or a dedicated culinary outing.
Musashiya is a Japanese restaurant primarily known for its fresh udon and soba noodles, served in a variety of hot and cold preparations. Situated within the bustling food court of Mitsuwa Marketplace, a popular Japanese supermarket, Musashiya benefits from a lively atmosphere and the convenience of being part of a larger cultural hub. While it may operate with the efficiency of a food court vendor, its commitment to authentic flavors and quality ingredients shines through.
Beyond its signature noodles, Musashiya's menu extends to popular Japanese comfort foods such as flavorful curry rice dishes, various "donburi" (rice bowls topped with meat or other ingredients), and satisfying set meals that typically include a main dish, rice, miso soup, and side salads. This establishment offers a quick and satisfying meal, making it an ideal choice for a casual lunch or an early dinner. The savory broths, fresh noodles, and traditional preparations aim to bring a piece of Japan's everyday culinary delights to San Diego.
Musashiya is strategically located at 4240 Kearny Mesa Rd, San Diego, CA 92111, USA, specifically within the Mitsuwa Marketplace. This placement is a significant advantage for locals, as Mitsuwa is a well-known Japanese grocery store and cultural center in the Kearny Mesa area. The marketplace itself is a destination, and Musashiya provides a convenient and authentic dining option right inside.
Kearny Mesa Road is a major thoroughfare in San Diego, ensuring easy accessibility by car from various parts of the city. As part of a larger shopping complex, Mitsuwa Marketplace offers ample parking for customers, which is a considerable convenience in a busy urban area. The restaurant's setting within a food court means plenty of seating is available, making it suitable for quick meals or groups. However, it's worth noting that Mitsuwa Marketplace, and consequently Musashiya, operates within the broader market's hours, which can sometimes lead to earlier closing times than standalone restaurants. It is always a good idea to confirm their specific hours before planning a late visit.

Musashiya Reviews
This place decided to close early with no notice. The restaurant sign says 8 pm. We arrived at 6:45 pm and the register was closed. I pleaded with the cashier that my nephew was hospitalized and he asked for a bowl of udon. The kitchen staff was indifferent and were effortless.
February 27 · Leticia MunguiaUdon & soba shop inside Mitsuwa. Plenty of seating, quick service. Broth is savory with a hint of sweetness. Enjoyed the soba noodles, but the portion was a little small for the price.
May 12 · Tommy OnSome of the worst tonkatsu I've ever eaten. Pork was very tough and dry. Skin was overcooked and still somehow fell apart. Do not recommend
May 13 · Brandon SummI love going to this grocery store… But I don’t think that this restaurant is up to par with other restaurants in the area. I went to both of Mitsuwa’s restaurants and got a aburi chasiu bowl from the other establishment - YUM!From Musashiya, I ordered the Mini-Katsu Don bowl, and was disappointed. All of the breading fell off the meat - all of it! It was gross and nearly inedible. Basically what I got was a boiled chicken rice bowl topped with egg/breading clumpsBreading should not completely fall off, this is a sign of poor food handling &/or chef skills - both pretty important in a restaurant setting.I was going to say something but the host didn’t really give off hospitable vibes from the get-go.For example,When I got my food, I noticed there was no spoon for the included miso (one positive thing about the katsu don is that it comes with Miso soup), I asked the host if I may have a spoon and they told me people usually drink from the cup and was seemingly-reluctant to grab a spoon for my meal… I may be reading into it. But I felt like I was a burden to the staff, asking for a spoon when served a soup.Rather than alerting the staff about my observations, I simply will not go there anymore. The value perhaps would have been amazing if the Katsu Don was prepared properly.
November 26 · Axel WadlundThe Tonkatsu here was pretty good here. Better than expected in the US, but still not as good as the majority of restaurants back in Japan. It had a very satisfying crunch to the fried breading, but it was slightly overdone in spots. The meat itself was a bit dry which detracted somewhat. My order came out quickly and was pipping hot. I would recommend this place for others. The market it is attached to is well worth a visit as well.
