The first course was miso soup, which I usually love, but this one was about three times saltier. The first appetizer tasted like canned tuna cat food. The sashimi was objectively mid one after the other. The best part was the uni, the uni was incredible. The hand roll was disappointing.The green tea ice cream was great, and I doubt they made that in house.there are so many good Omakase places in the city and I really regret coming to this one.

They’ve got some unique stuff on the menu you don’t usually see—like monkfish, which is kind of a bold choice and not for everyone, but super cool to try. And the uni? So fresh and buttery, seriously some of the best I’ve had. Plus, the sushi chefs are super sweet and just fun to chat with. Always a good time here.

In Sushi Dairo apparently any one who is not white is there solely to pick up a delivery. There is a strong smell of rice vinegar that permeates the restaurant which takes getting used to. The sushi was fine with a wider selection than most other sushi restaurants which is why I chose it. The chef uses creative toppings - another reason why I chose the place. There were specials that I was not informed about but overheard when they were communicated to a couple next to me. My sake cup was never refilled from the bottle I ordered by the hostess who seemed extremely busy despite an almost completely empty restaurant. After spending approximately $240, I felt unsatisfied and disturbed by the experience. Perhaps I was indeed better off picking up a delivery. Or going elsewhere.

I really enjoy small plates as part of the omakase experience but some of the flavor combinations missed the mark for me. The fish itself was good and fresh so I think next time I would just go a la cart and order the sushi platters.
