Sake Cafe Uptown distinguishes itself in the New Orleans dining scene through several notable features and highlights that enhance the customer experience:
Excellent Sushi and Sashimi Quality: Despite the extensive menu, the sushi and sashimi are consistently praised. Outstanding Appetizers: The "calamari" is a repeated favorite among reviewers, noted for being "delicious." This indicates a strong start to any meal.
Valuable Complimentary Parking: This is a significant highlight, especially on Magazine Street. The provision of "6 hours" of free parking is a rare and highly appreciated convenience in New Orleans, making visits much more stress-free.
Accommodating and Friendly Service: The staff's willingness to go above and beyond, such as allowing a large party to utilize extra tables for their dishes, speaks to a high level of customer care and flexibility. The servers are consistently described as "really nice."
Pleasant Ambiance and Aesthetics: While one review mentioned a "little awkward with no music" and a "quiet restaurant," another noted that "the ambience and aesthetics were nice!" This suggests a clean, modern, and potentially calming environment, which some diners prefer for a quiet meal.
Broad Menu Selection Beyond Sushi: The extensive range of kitchen entrees, noodles, soups, and salads ensures that Sake Cafe Uptown can cater to a wider audience, including those who might not solely focus on sushi.
Full Bar with Sake Focus: The presence of a full bar offering "premium sake" allows for a complete dining experience, including drink pairings with Japanese cuisine.
It is worth noting the comment regarding the "fried rice" having "raw red onion that just didn’t really fit well," indicating that while many dishes are well-received, there might be occasional inconsistencies. Also, the happy hour menu is noted as "very limited and barely had anything to offer compared to other sushi restaurants," suggesting that if happy hour deals are a priority, it might be worth checking ahead.
Based on available public information and customer reviews, Sake Cafe Uptown does offer promotions, though some patrons find their happy hour menu to be less extensive than desired.
Happy Hour: Sake Cafe Uptown has a daily happy hour, typically from 3-5 PM, which includes deals on draft beers and house cocktails. While one reviewer felt it was "very limited," it's still a specific offering that provides value. Other sources indicate a daily happy hour from 3-6 PM, including "appetizer and sushi deals."
Complimentary Parking: As mentioned in the features, the "6 hours" of complimentary parking is a significant perk that adds value to the dining experience, especially in a busy area like Magazine Street.
Lunch Specials: While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, many Japanese restaurants offer lunch specials or bento boxes during weekday lunch hours. It would be worth checking with the restaurant.

Sake Cafe uptown Reviews
The Tiger roll, edamame and calamari were delicious. Don’t recommend the fried rice. It had raw red onion that just didn’t really fit well. Server was really nice but the ambiance was a little awkward with no music. Perfect if you like a quiet restaurant though!
Apr 15, 2025 · Kendall BFirst time dining at a Sake Cafe and had a fairly good experience! I really liked the complimentary parking which allowed 6 hours!! I thought it would be 2-3 hours max, but when it said 6, I was impressed. Service was great especially since my party and I ordered a lot. The waitress was accommodating and allowed us to use two other tables nearby for our dishes and to-go containers. Everything we ordered was good especially the calamari and sashimi. Only thing disappointing was their happy hour menu. I felt like it was very limited and barely had anything to offer compared to other sushi restaurants. Overall, it was still a great place to dine in. Even the ambience and anesthetics were nice! I would most likely return and recommend this location to others!
Jan 06, 2024 · Brandy HKOne of the worst service experiences I’ve ever had. After waiting over 30 minutes with no food arriving and no apology, we were charged $20 for just a small soup and salad—the appetizers from the lunch deal. But what really stood out was the bald waiter, who treated us with shocking disrespect. I’ve truly never been spoken to that way in a restaurant.Neil, the manager—if you’re reading this, your staff’s behavior was unacceptable, and it reflects very poorly on your establishment.Would not recommend.
Mar 21, 2025 · Jason Danino HoltVery popular modern style sushi & sake bar on Magazine. Happy hour menu with a handful of sushi items and cocktail specials. Good staff, friendly place, especially Ty, a consummate creative. It must be nationally renowned as there are a lot of celebrity-signed portraits.
Sep 28, 2024 · David FieldingOne of the worst experience I had in a long time.we arrived. It took the waiter a while to even come and take our order. He was very short and impatient from the beginning. After taking our order we waited for a while and after around like 20 to 25 minutes, because we were in a hurry we asked the waiter about the food and when will it be arriving. He was a bit dismissive and said it will be here shortly and after a few minutes, he said now it’s getting into the kitchen.we ask him what does it mean, and how long will it take, because we’re in a hurry and his answer was that he can charge us for what that arrived (Just a little salad and a miso soup) and we can be on our way. which is by far one of the rudest answer that I got from a waiter. I asked to see the manager and he said “ we are the manager have a good day “ when I asked him again he said I can give them a call and search for Neil, but will not give me any information .would not get near this place ever again and for your sake, neither will you
