Sea Ranch Sushi Evanston Reviews
A cute little shop located in the heart of Evanston, a few blocks away from Northwestern. It's half restaurant and half market. The store itself is small so selection from the market is limited and more expensive than you would normally find at an ethnic grocery store. But this is Evanston so what do you expect? The sushi is here is acceptable. Surprisingly good for such a small establishment, but falls FAR short of a dedicated Japanese restaurant. The food here is relatively inexpensive, but probably for a reason. My Tonkotsu Ramen broth was very light in taste/richness (to the point where I could barely taste any pork), and it didn't even come with any meat or a marinated egg. The noodles were not bad - slightly springy and thick, but this type of noodle would work better with a thicker, richer broth. I'm not joking when I say that the instant ramen that I ate in Japan is better than what I got here. The udon was soggy/mushy and the soup base was one-dimensional and too sweet.
Mar 24, 2025 · Terrance ZhangStopped in for some takeout sushi, walked out with this amazing “Love for Two“ platter. A generous amount of sushi and arranged in a valentine heart.
Feb 04, 2025 · Stephen GeisMy go-to place for sushi in Evanston. Reasonably priced and cozy, and you can order without interacting with anyone by scanning a qr code on a table. High quality fish. Tiny wobbly tablets, the cheapest chopsticks that could give you a splinter, and the fact that you are sitting in a Japanese grocery store just adds a lot to the vibe. Maybe the closest I have been to Japan. You can buy everything you need to make sushi on your own, or bunch of essential Japanese groceries, snacks or drinks. They even have sake! The only thing that bothers me -- Spotify ads. You can't get away from them.
Mar 11, 2025 · Vsevolod SuschevskiyI didnt notice this spot until a few weeks ago and I've shown up about 5 times already. its amazing, they have a few popular asian snacks and fresh prepared sushi rolls. I have tried the spicy California rolls recenlty and they just tasted so much better than any others I've had at other places. Also the UCC Coffee w milk is a must try, Coffee in a can bottle delicious!
May 19, 2025 · J lI'm going to be honest, I was skeptical. But this sushi is delicious!! I recommend all of the rolls and nigiri we ordered: oshinko, tamago, mango, spicy yellow tail, spicy Mexican, chu toro, and mackerel. The oshinko and tamago were a little smaller than typical but great for the price of only $3 each! They were the perfect intro sushi for our kids who loved them. This is probably a new favorite of ours!
