Sumi Ramen Reviews
I’ve been here a few times and the food and service has been great every time! Lots of variety on the menu without it being overwhelming, I think there’s something for everyone on there. I really love the tomato beef soup.Servers are attentive and polite, and I’ve only gone at non-rush times (late lunch, early dinner) but each time it was a pretty calm atmosphere with music playing quietly. You will hear kitchen noises since there’s a half wall separating the dining hall and kitchen but it is infrequent.
Oct 29, 2024 · Hannah TranThe kimchi beef ramen was somewhere between canned Chinese kimchi soup and Japanese ramen. I don't know if my brain expected to taste 김치찌개 (kimchi stew) or not but it was definitely not even enjoyable. It seems to be a popular place and I am willing to give it another try, but the price is much too high for something that was not good. The broth was bland, the noodles were good, and the beef was lacking. That ish needs to be spicy.Worst of all, putting boiling hot food in plastic to-gos is extremely toxic for humans. I ate outside so I asked for Togo and I appreciate separating the contents properly.Service was very friendly.I'll come back for the queen's black ramen some day.
Apr 17, 2025 · matthew makowskiTLDR: Good ramen & sushi, friendly service, not busy.We (party of 2) arrived around 7:30pm on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was completely empty. There was only one takeout order on the counter. We were given the ability to sit wherever we wanted so we chose a booth. The menus were brought over with one separate menu for a list of special ramen & sushi rolls, presumably available for only a limited time.We ordered the Black Queen and Red Volcano "signature" ramens, as well as a Sumi Roll to share. The waitress took our order manually but there were QR codes on the table to do the same. The same third-party service also provided a QR code on the check at the end that we could pay through. The food came remarkably fast, around 7 minutes after ordering. The sushi was well-presented and tasted great. The cream-cheese and eel sauces mixed well with the shrimp tempura and provided for a very flavorful bite. The ramen was good as well. The noodles were hearty and had a great texture. The broth of the Black Queen was rich and savory, though not overly salty. The Red Volcano was the spicy version of the same broth. Both bowls came with half of a soy-sauce egg which was cooked well but slightly cold, sliced pieces of tender char-siu (roast pork), and scallions. The Black Queen also came with pickled ginger (similar to the ginger accompanying the sushi, but red) which cut into the richness of the broth and balanced everything out.The vibe was definitely quiet, ideal for calmer outings. The waitress was friendly and asked us how everything tasted after we finished. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for a solid spot to grab some quick but tasty Japanese cuisine.
Jun 26, 2024 · coreyykkUPDATE JULY 2023Our first time dining in (before we only had a take-out from Sumi Ramen). Very good experience. The food, overall, was very good. The sushi rolls we tried for our appetizers were OK, but the specialty of the house - ramen - was great.Polite and efficient service, no complaints whatsoever. You can order your food on your phone (by scanning a QR code displayed on your table) as well as pay for it (Google Pay or credit cards).Pleasing interior. Quite budget-friendly prices.Highly recommended. 5 stars indeed. We will definitely visit again.--------------------------------------------Decent food, extensive menu, good selections featuring ramen, udon, soba, mazemen (brothless ramen), donburi (rice bowls), curry platters, stir fried rice dishes, basic sushi rolls, and interesting appetizers (among them we would mention Mini Taco Sashimi with spicy tuna, poke salmon or crab leg). The prices are on the cheaper side, quite budget-friendly.Our food quality and preparation was, as mentioned, decent. The staff was polite and efficient. Our food was ready in about 15 minutes after placing the phone order.Cozy interior inviting to some privacy. For those familiar with Plainsboro, the restaurant is located next door to Romeo's Pizza.Right now, you can order delivery via GrubHub, which delivers to as far locations as Hamilton.
Jul 02, 2023 · RGSOUNDFThis is an honest review! I had the opportunity to eat dinner here yesterday. I usually go to terakawa ramen in Princeton Junction as there are very limited spots to eat ramen in my town. I go to planet fitness and was excited when this place was opening up because Ramen is literally one of my favorite dishes. That being said I have high expectations for ramen because all the components have to come together to make it a true delight. I give this place 5 stars on decor and aesthetics for a stirp mall restaurant they did not hold back on maximmizing the space to offer different seating options. It is still currently their soft opening and pretty sure menu is not complete. They offer sushi but I did not try I wanted to focus on ramen. I did order the pork crispy bao bun and was very disappointed with them. The bun was huge almost chebatta looking dry and meat was too fatty and tough with barely any sauce and regular shredded lettuce. I ate one and skipped the second. I ordered the black widow ramen and that was also a let down only because they promote that they make hand made noodles and to be honest they looked and tasted like angel hair pasta boiled in water then thrown in the soup. Major disappointment and I didn't get an egg as advertised. I liked the broth taste but that's about it. I believe this place has great potential if they focus on purchasing higher quality ingredients especially the meat they are putting in the soup because right now it is too fatty and tough lacking flavor. If they can adjust that I can see this place being a solid ramen spot, for now I'd say skip this and go to Terakawa for good ramen even though it is a chain I always leave satisfied. My tab was 20 for ramen and bao buns, just wish food was a little better. Will try it again later down the road once established.
