For the residents of Kelso, Washington, evaluating Sun's Teriyaki requires a balanced perspective, considering both its established presence and recent feedback. While recent customer reviews highlight significant concerns, the restaurant's historical rating suggests it has, for many, served as a functional and convenient option for local Japanese and Asian-inspired cuisine.
Traditionally, Sun's Teriyaki's suitability for locals has stemmed from its convenient location on 1st Avenue NW, making it easily accessible for a quick meal during a busy day or for picking up takeout. Its menu, encompassing a variety of teriyaki dishes, yakisoba, ramen, and appetizers, aims to cater to the popular demand for these comforting and familiar Asian flavors. For locals seeking a straightforward and relatively quick option for these specific types of dishes, Sun's Teriyaki has often been a practical choice. The availability of diverse menu items like various teriyaki proteins, different fried rice options, and classic appetizers means that individuals or families with varying preferences could find something appealing, providing a versatile dining solution.
However, recent customer feedback has indicated significant issues that directly impact its suitability. Reports of "horrendously overcooked and burned" food, including "hard as a rock" chicken and "blackened" gyoza, are serious concerns that would undoubtedly deter many. Furthermore, observations regarding the cleanliness, describing the restaurant as "dirty" with only "the bare minimum" done to clean, are critical points for any establishment, especially one serving food. While the owner was noted as "nice," the core issues of food quality and hygiene are fundamental to a positive dining experience.
Therefore, while Sun's Teriyaki offers the convenience of location and a broad menu of popular Asian dishes, local users in Kelso considering this establishment should exercise caution and potentially factor in the very recent and specific negative feedback regarding food quality and cleanliness. It highlights the importance of real-time customer experiences in evaluating a local business's suitability. While it remains an accessible option for Japanese and Asian fusion, prospective diners might want to consider these recent reviews to manage their expectations or explore alternative options in Kelso if food quality and cleanliness are their top priorities.

Sun's Teriyaki Reviews
I had a truly disappointing experience at this restaurant. The food was horrendously overcooked and burned, rendering most of it inedible. The sweet and sour chicken was so hard it could have been used for golf, and the gyoza was blackened. The only thing I could actually eat was the plain sticky rice, which was, ironically, the most basic part of the meal.To make matters worse, the restaurant appeared dirty; it looked like the bare minimum had been done to clean the tables, chairs, and maybe even the floors. I'm stunned by how awful it was, especially considering the restaurant has a 4.2-star rating. I won’t be returning.
Oct 30, 2024 · Kortni ScheffeyThe sweet and sour chicken was so over cooked. It was hard as a rock. The gyoza was almost burned. The salad was just iceberg lettuce. The owner was nice. $64 for 4 dinners that no one could eat.
Oct 25, 2024 · DONNA GOEBELI cannot see how this is ranked as 4 stars. On the positive side, the teriyaki was tasty, the portions are generous. On the room for improvement side, the "salad" was big sheets of iceberg lettuce. The sweet sour chicken, was a set of fried balls the size of an Italian meatball, that could not be broken apart by by a plastic knife or even stabbed with a chopstick. Fortunately I had just washed my EDC the night before. The sweet sour sauce was not the best I've ever had; missing that tangy taste, guessing it is three ingredients, rice vinegar, sugar and enough tomato to turn it sort of red. The location is on a very busy noisy road, outside dining will not be pleasant.
Jun 27, 2022 · Stephen NorthcuttI called and ordered tofu and veggie teriyaki, along with two other entrees and three sides. When my husband picked it up, what I received was just teriyaki and rice. They probably misheard me, no big deal. I really wanted the veggies so I called back to order just a side of veggies (available in their menu) The guy who answered immediately started yelling at me that I ordered tofu teriyaki, I didn’t order veggies! I think he thought I was trying to scam him out of a little box of veggies. Why would I order six items, have my husband drive all the way home and turn back around again just to get a free $5 box of veggies?? We would have paid $5 in gas for the second trip! I was NOT asking for a free item, I was planning to pay for the dang veggies. But not after being yelled at. We will not be repeat customers.
Dec 10, 2022 · Tara KohrChicken was dry with no sauce on the Sweet & sour chicken balls. Don't think they even use chicken in it. Older man behind counter was nice to me but rude to a young man who was over charged $90. Sad this place has gone down hill. Used to be good. It's just cheap. I'll do the extra drive to Minamis next time.
