Sushi Noz Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking an unparalleled sushi experience, Sushi Noz stands as a beacon of Edomae-style omakase on the Upper East Side. Helmed by the acclaimed Chef Nozomu Abe, known as "Noz" to his friends, this Michelin-starred establishment transcends a typical meal, offering a deeply personal and artistic journey through the finest seasonal ingredients. Since its establishment in 2018, Sushi Noz has quickly garnered a reputation as one of the city's most distinguished sushi destinations, attracting those who appreciate meticulous craftsmanship, pristine quality, and an unforgettable culinary narrative. It is designed not just as a restaurant, but as a stage for Chef Noz's mastery, where each piece of sushi is a testament to tradition, technique, and passion.
Sushi Noz distinguishes itself through its dedication to traditional Edomae sushi, a style that emphasizes careful preparation, aging, and seasoning of the fish to bring out its absolute best. This approach, rooted in Japan's Edo period, is evident in every delicate cut and perfectly seasoned grain of rice. The restaurant itself is a work of art, featuring a design influenced by Kyoto's Sukiya architecture, with a centerpiece 200-year-old Hinoki wood sushi counter. This commitment to authenticity extends beyond the plate, creating an ambiance that transports diners to a tranquil Japanese haven amidst the bustling energy of New York City.
While certainly a significant investment, a meal at Sushi Noz is often described by patrons as an "experience of a lifetime," a testament to the complex layers of flavor, immaculate pairings, and the sheer artistry involved. It caters to those who view dining as an exploration, an opportunity to engage with a chef's vision and indulge in ingredients flown directly from Japan. For New Yorkers looking to celebrate a milestone, impress a guest, or simply immerse themselves in the pinnacle of sushi artistry, Sushi Noz offers an unparalleled and memorable encounter.
Sushi Noz is elegantly nestled at 181 E 78th St, New York, NY 10075, USA, placing it in a sophisticated and accessible pocket of the Upper East Side. This prime location off Third Avenue puts it within easy reach for residents of Manhattan and beyond, making it a desirable destination for a special evening out.
The restaurant's proximity to major transportation hubs enhances its accessibility. The 6 train, with its stops at 77th Street and Lexington Avenue, is just a few blocks away, providing a direct subway connection from various parts of the city. Additionally, numerous bus lines traverse the Upper East Side, offering convenient options for arriving at this esteemed establishment. The street itself is typically quieter than the main avenues, contributing to the refined atmosphere of the dining experience.
Given the nature of a fine dining omakase experience, most patrons will plan their visit in advance, often utilizing ride-sharing services or public transportation. While street parking can be challenging in this area, as is common throughout Manhattan, the emphasis at Sushi Noz is on the journey inside, where guests can fully immerse themselves in the culinary artistry without external distractions. Its discreet yet central location makes it a cherished spot for New Yorkers seeking an escape into authentic Japanese gastronomy.
Sushi Noz is dedicated to providing an exclusive and traditional Edomae-style omakase experience. Their services are centered around this highly curated format:
Edomae-Style Omakase Menu: The core offering is a multi-course omakase menu, meticulously curated nightly by Chef Nozomu Abe. This typically begins with several otsumami (small plates highlighting seasonal fish and vegetables), followed by a progression of 12-14 courses of seasonal nigiri. The meal concludes with miso soup, tamago (sweet egg omelet), and a dessert.
Chef's Counter Seating: Guests are seated at an intimate 8-seat Hinoki wood counter or a 6-seat Ash Room counter. These settings provide a direct view of the chef's artistry and allow for a personalized, unhurried experience. Seatings with Chef Noz himself are available on specific days and times, with other talented chefs serving the same menu at different seatings.
Exclusive Beverage Pairings: To complement the exquisite sushi, Sushi Noz offers comprehensive wine and sake pairing options, including a "Signature Pairing" and a "Prestige Pairing." These selections are carefully chosen to enhance the complex flavors of the food, often featuring rare and high-end selections.
Strict Reservation and Dietary Policies: Reservations are required and must be made online, often prepaid. Due to the highly specialized nature of the omakase, the restaurant has strict policies regarding cancellations and dietary restrictions, typically unable to accommodate no shellfish, kosher, gluten-free, soy-free, vegetarian, or rice-free menus.
Private Dining: A secluded private room may be available for small groups, offering an even more exclusive setting for the omakase experience.
Sushi Noz stands out in New York City's competitive fine dining landscape due to several distinctive features and highlights:
Michelin-Starred Excellence: Sushi Noz has consistently earned Michelin stars, a prestigious recognition of its exceptional cuisine, service, and overall dining experience. This solidifies its status as a top-tier culinary destination.
Authentic Edomae Tradition: Chef Nozomu Abe's adherence to traditional Edomae-style sushi, which involves meticulous preparation and aging techniques, sets the restaurant apart. This dedication results in complex and intense layers of flavor that are rarely found elsewhere.
Masterful Chef Nozomu Abe: The reputation of Chef Noz himself is a major draw. His precision, artistry, and deep understanding of fish and rice are central to the unparalleled quality of the omakase.
Exquisite Ingredients: Ingredients, many of which are flown in directly from Japan, are of the highest possible quality. Patrons rave about specific pieces like Otoro (fatty tuna) and Hokkaido Uni (sea urchin), noting their melt-in-your-mouth texture and rich flavors.
Immaculate Wine/Sake Pairings: The beverage pairings are highly praised for their ability to perfectly complement and elevate the sushi. The dedicated sommelier ensures adventurous and well-matched selections, including sparklers, beer, and various sakes.
Stunning Interior Design: The restaurant's design, inspired by Kyoto temples and Sukiya architecture, creates a serene and authentic Japanese ambiance. The use of a 200-year-old Hinoki wood sushi counter and other natural elements contributes to a truly transportive atmosphere.
Intimate and Focused Dining: The limited seating at the counter ensures an intimate experience where the focus remains entirely on the food and the chef's performance. The absence of distractions like loud music or TVs further enhances this focus.
As a high-end, Michelin-starred omakase establishment, Sushi Noz does not typically offer traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the sense of discounted meals or happy hour deals. The pricing reflects the exceptional quality of ingredients, the meticulous preparation, and the overall bespoke dining experience.
However, the restaurant may feature unique, limited-time collaborations or special events, such as the "Japan Series" dinners that occasionally bring acclaimed chefs from Japan to collaborate with Chef Noz. These are not promotions but rather exclusive, premium events that offer a unique culinary opportunity, often at a higher price point due to their rarity and prestige.
The "value" at Sushi Noz is derived from the unparalleled quality and unforgettable experience rather than a price reduction. For those considering the experience, it's about investing in a truly memorable meal. Any specific offerings, like special beverage pairings or unique seasonal ingredients, are typically part of the evolving omakase menu itself rather than a separate discount.

Sushi Noz Reviews
Probably the greatest meal I’ve ever had in my life. The food all had so many complex and intense layers of flavor and the wine/sake pairing were immaculate. It’s certainly not cheap but I do believe it was worth every penny. Truly an experience I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
May 09, 2025 · John ZehrFood used to be higher quality a couple of years ago. Now they have decreased the portion sizes and exponentially increased the price. We ordered the “omakase” for $95 for pick up and received a meager serving (pic below). Wish we saved the month for something else.We used to come pretty often, but won’t be back for a bit, if ever.
Apr 09, 2025 · Jane CaiWe did the 6pm omakase. Everything was phenomenal and delicious. Definitely planning on coming back.
May 08, 2025 · Norhan BassiounyWe celebrated our engagement here because we wanted a special meal to culminate an amazing day. The food, ambiance, and culinary experience was all incredible. Can’t wait to find another reason to celebrate and go back
