Sushi Yasu Tanaka Introduce
For Floridians who truly appreciate the art of sushi, Sushi Yasu Tanaka is a name that resonates with quality and value, especially for those in Miami's vibrant Design District. This esteemed sushi establishment, led by celebrated Chef Yasu Tanaka (formerly of the Michelin-starred The Den at AZABU), has quickly gained a reputation for delivering an "unheard of" and incredibly high-quality omakase experience at a remarkably accessible price point. If you're seeking sushi where "the fish were fresh and basically melted in our mouths," complemented by "garnishes and flavors complicated each other," and even the rare touch of "real wasabi," then Sushi Yasu Tanaka is a must-visit.
What truly sets Sushi Yasu Tanaka apart is its dedication to simplicity and authenticity, reminiscent of the unassuming yet exceptional sushi spots found in Japan. Despite being located in a bustling food hall (Mia Market), the focus remains squarely on the freshness and craftsmanship of each piece. Regulars and first-time visitors alike praise the "beautiful fresh fish served quickly and simply," and emphasize that the chef and owner "should take pride in his approach and creations." For many local families, it's become a cherished tradition to "make it a point to visit nearly every time" they are in the Design District, solidifying its status as a "gem" that's "fresh, fun and fast." Highly recommended by those in the know, Sushi Yasu Tanaka offers a Michelin-quality experience without the usual pretension or hefty price tag, making it an undeniable draw for discerning sushi lovers in Florida.
Sushi Yasu Tanaka is strategically located at 140 NE 39th St #241, Miami, FL 33137, USA. This address places it within the heart of the renowned Miami Design District, a hub for high-end fashion, art, design, and increasingly, exceptional dining. The restaurant is specifically situated inside the "Mia Market" food hall, a popular spot within the district.
Accessibility to Sushi Yasu Tanaka is quite convenient for Miami locals and visitors. The Design District is easily reachable via major roads and highways in South Florida. For those driving, "paid parking across the street in a parking lot" is available, and some reviews mention "underground parking with easy access," which is a significant plus in a busy urban area like Miami. While being inside a food hall means a "casual food hall setting" and potentially "limited seating" during peak hours, it also offers a "walk-in friendly" atmosphere with "no reservations required." This makes it ideal for spontaneous sushi cravings without the hassle of booking far in advance. The location within a trendy and culturally rich neighborhood also means it's a great spot to combine a meal with other activities in the Design District.
Sushi Yasu Tanaka specializes in delivering a focused yet exceptional Japanese dining experience, prioritizing the quality and artistry of each sushi piece. Their main offerings include:
Omakase Experience: This is the signature service and a major highlight. Customers can enjoy a chef-curated selection of fresh nigiri and a hand roll. This "unheard of" omakase offers "10 pieces of chef selection & one cut roll" (priced at $64.00, or $59.00 in some mentions, indicating variations over time), providing a high-quality experience at an accessible price. It's described as a "quick yet exquisite experience," perfect for those on the go or who prefer a streamlined tasting.
Nigiri and Sashimi A La Carte: For those who prefer to select their own pieces, Sushi Yasu Tanaka offers a wide variety of fresh fish, typically served two pieces per order. Options include:
- Lean Tuna (Akami), Medium Fatty Tuna (Chu-Toro), and Fatty Tuna (O-Toro), with both traditional and torched (Aburi) versions available.
- Salmon (with options for Torched Fatty Salmon Aburi or Spicy Mayo Aburi Salmon).
- Sea Bream (Tai), Golden Eye Snapper (Ji-Kinmedai), Amberjack (Kanpachi), and Yellowtail (Hamachi).
- Scallop (Hotate), Japanese Uni (Sea Urchin), and Torched Wagyu beef.
A notable feature is the use of "real wasabi," a rarity even in high-end establishments.
Signature Nigiri Platters: In addition to the full omakase, they offer a "6 Piece Nigiri Platter" for a delightful sushi experience without the full chef's selection.
Hand Rolls: Made to order, these include classic choices like "Chopped Toro & Pickled Radish," "Chopped Hamachi & Negi Sauce," "Spicy Scallop," "Wagyu Miso & Negi Sauce," and more premium options like "Uni & Toro" and "Toro & Caviar."
Special Samplers: Such as "Maguro Flight" (featuring different cuts of tuna) and "Salmon Sampler."
Takeout and Delivery: For ultimate convenience, Sushi Yasu Tanaka offers takeout services and is available for delivery through platforms like Uber Eats. This allows locals to enjoy their high-quality sushi from the comfort of their homes.
Sushi Yasu Tanaka distinguishes itself within Miami's culinary landscape through a series of impressive features that have garnered significant praise from locals:
Exceptional Quality Omakase at an Unbeatable Price: The most resounding highlight is the "unheard of" and highly affordable omakase experience (around $50-$64). Customers consistently praise the "quality" of the fish, describing it as "fresh and basically melted in our mouths," making it a standout value for high-end sushi in Miami.
Use of Real Wasabi: A rare and significant detail, the use of "real wasabi" (rather than horseradish-based substitutes) elevates the authenticity and flavor profile of their sushi, appealing to true connoisseurs and setting them apart from many competitors, "even 'high end' restaurants."
Melt-in-Your-Mouth Fresh Fish: The "fish were fresh and basically melted in our mouths" is a recurring theme, indicating a strong commitment to sourcing top-tier ingredients. Fish is reportedly "flown in multiple times per week ensuring incredible freshness."
Expert Craftsmanship by Chef Yasu Tanaka: Chef Yasu Tanaka, a former head chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant, brings a wealth of experience and a philosophy rooted in simplicity and quality. His creations are praised for their artistic "approach and creations" and "intricate balance of flavors."
Casual and Accessible Vibe: Despite the high quality, the restaurant maintains a casual, "no-reservation, walk-in atmosphere" within the Mia Market food hall. This makes premium sushi accessible without the formalities, long waits, or high price tags often associated with such quality.
Focus on Nigiri and Hand Rolls: The menu's emphasis on expertly crafted nigiri and a diverse selection of hand rolls ensures a focused and authentic sushi experience for purists.
Fast and Efficient Service: Reviews highlight that food is "served quickly and simply," making it ideal for those seeking a high-quality meal even when on the go ("fresh, fun and fast").
Sushi Yasu Tanaka, while known for its already competitive pricing, particularly for omakase, may offer promotions primarily through its accessibility and value proposition rather than traditional discount schemes. For Floridians looking to experience this gem, here's what to consider regarding special offers:
Exceptional Omakase Value: The core "promotion" is the omakase itself. At prices around $50-$64 for 10 pieces of chef-selected nigiri and a hand roll, it's considered "unheard of" for the quality, especially given the use of real wasabi and premium fish. This inherent value makes it a consistent "deal" compared to other high-end sushi experiences in Miami.
Daily Operations: Sushi Yasu Tanaka operates seven days a week (Sun-Thurs 12 PM-8 PM L.O., Fri & Sat 12 PM-9 PM L.O.), ensuring consistent availability for locals to enjoy their offerings. This consistent availability could be seen as a convenience-based "promotion" for busy individuals.
No Formal Happy Hour Mentioned: While some casual sushi spots have explicit Happy Hours, the primary focus for Sushi Yasu Tanaka is its consistent quality and value throughout its operating hours, particularly for its omakase. Specific "Happy Hour" details for this location are not prominently advertised as separate from their standard pricing, indicating the base price for their offerings is already considered excellent value.
Delivery Platform Availability: Being available on platforms like Uber Eats means customers can potentially leverage platform-specific promotions, such as discounted delivery fees or first-time user incentives offered by Uber Eats itself, rather than direct promotions from Sushi Yasu Tanaka. It's always advisable to check the respective app for current deals.
For the most accurate and up-to-date pricing and any potential limited-time offers, locals should directly consult the Sushi Yasu Tanaka menu on Uber Eats or visit their official website if available. The primary draw remains the exceptional quality-to-price ratio of their core offerings, especially the omakase.
For Floridians eager to savor the acclaimed sushi at Sushi Yasu Tanaka, here are the key contact details:

Sushi Yasu Tanaka Reviews
$50 dollar omakase is unheard of, especially at the quality. The fish were fresh and basically melted in our mouths. The garnishes and flavors complicated each other. They also used real wasabi, which is rare for even "high end" restaurants.I will definitely be coming back when I'm in Miami again. The only thing was we did not know what fish we were eating or what order we should eat.
Apr 03, 2025 路 Jim KimBeautiful fresh fish served quickly and simply. The chef and owner should take pride in his approach and creations. We love the omakase and the hand rolls. Our family makes it a point to visit nearly every time we come down to the Design District. Fresh, fun and fast. A gem. Highly recommend it.
Feb 08, 2025 路 Bill SSimply the best omakase you can get for your money. Greatest quality of fish. If you love sushi you must try this food court. 馃嵄 馃崳
May 04, 2025 路 Paolo SaiehWonderful place for quick omakase. You get 10 pieces and also a handroll. Each piece was delicious. It is located inside the market, so don't expect much ambiance, but food is great!
Jan 10, 2025 路 KaterinaThe sushi was the freshes I have had in recent years, since my last time in Japan 2019. I felt the rice was not as soft as it should. We had the Omakase with one slight modification, since I can't eat shellfish or scaleless fish. The wasabi was fresh, but what caught my attention was the Soy sauce. It tastes really high-end with a sweet flavor. The Omakase was good, but as one who ate sushi a lot in Japan, I have had better, even ones at low level restaurant. For the area, it was good, as good as you can get in America.
